As anticipation builds for the September 18 release of The 21st Century Last Waltz – Live at Massey Hall, Chest Fever has unveiled the latest preview from the forthcoming live album: "Such A Night," featuring acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter Devin Cuddy, available now on all streaming platforms alongside an accompanying live video on YouTube.
Recorded during Chest Fever's sold-out performance at Toronto's legendary Massey Hall on November 18, 2023, "Such A Night" captures one of the concert's most joyful moments, with Cuddy delivering a spirited performance inspired by Dr. John's unforgettable appearance in The Last Waltz. The track also features legendary saxophonist and arranger Tom "Bones" Malone, who originally wrote the horn arrangements for "Such A Night" for The Last Waltz in 1976, returning to perform the song nearly 50 years later.
"There was a really beautiful energy, both on the stage and backstage," recalls Cuddy. "It was not your average feeling on stage, and it was very special in that way."
Reflecting on performing at Massey Hall, Cuddy adds, "There's a shared love of something that happened in that room, and on top of all that, it was at Massey Hall, which is essentially Canada's most legendary auditorium. I think the people on the stage and in the crowd both recognized that, and it added to the joy and the energy that was bouncing back and forth from the crowd to the stage."
The 21st Century Last Waltz – Live at Massey Hall captures Chest Fever's acclaimed reimagining of The Band's legendary farewell concert, recorded on the 45th anniversary of Martin Scorsese's iconic concert film. The five-hour celebration brought together a cross-generational lineup of Canadian artists and international guests, honouring The Band's collaborative spirit while offering a fresh interpretation for a new generation.
Before the album's release, Chest Fever will perform at AMERICANAFEST in Nashville, Tennessee, on September 17, marking the band's first-ever festival presentation of The 21st Century Last Waltz. Taking place in one of the birthplaces of Americana music, the performance brings Chest Fever's acclaimed reimagining of The Band's legendary farewell concert to one of North America's premier roots music festivals. The band will then launch an expanded North American tour celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Last Waltz, with dates across Canada and the United States this fall.
"I'm very excited to bring the show to Nashville and AmericanaFest, especially since The Band are some of the fathers of Americana music," says Daniel “Dude” Cervantes, lead guitarist and singer of Chest Fever. "To be able to perform The Last Waltz at AmericanaFest is a real honour. It's the perfect place to celebrate this music and share it with people who love it as much as we do."
Keyboardist and vocalist Jody Bagley agrees. "I'm excited for people to experience not only our love for this music, but also how we interpret it and make it our own while staying true to what made these songs so special in the first place."
The 21st Century Last Waltz – Live at Massey Hall will be released on September 18, 2026, on all streaming platforms. For more information, visit chestfeverofficial.com.
