RODNEY DECROO TO RELEASE 'CAMPFIRES ON THE MOON' ON APRIL 28th

For Immediate Release:

LISTEN TO/POST "Sparks In the Rain":

(Vancouver, BC) - It's been 5 years since Rodney DeCroo released his last studio record, the epic double album 'Queen Mary Trash,' but DeCroo is back in fine form with the beautiful and intimate 'Campfires On The Moon' out on April 28th through Tonic Records. DeCroo will also be embarking on a Cross-Canada Tour in support of the album, starting with a Vancouver release show on April 16 at The Fox Theatre. Full tour schedule listed below.

'Campfires On The Moon' marks Rodney DeCroo's full return to music. His last studio album was released in 2010 and between  then and now, DeCroo devoted the years to therapy and healing as he stepped up to a lifelong battle with PTSD. He also threw himself into a more immediately personal trinity of projects, yielding a spoken word album (Allegheny), book of poetry (Allegheny, BC), and a touring stage play (Stupid Boy in an Ugly Town) that expanded both his critical and popular appeal.

Suitably refreshed after his 5-year singer-songwriter hiatus, Rodney DeCroo was finally ready to follow-up 'Queen Mary Trash'. With former Convictions bandmate and stage collaborator Mark Haney on double bass, and longtime friend Ida Nilsen contributing piano and vocals—DeCroo had been quietly amassing material with Nilsen in mind—he returned to Brian Barr’s Vancouver studio and produced a record a  s beautiful on the surface as a dusk-painted reflecting pool, as shadowy below as his own tumultuous psyche. The gap between his inner and outer life has always been slender, but 'Campfires On The Moon' gives us DeCroo at his most intimate. The arrangements are fragile—three acoustic instruments and two voices; one glue, one honey—and so is the mood. A low, sonorous note brings Haney into the picture on perhaps the most upbeat of Campfire's songs, the lovely, painfully honest “Stupid Boy in an Ugly Town”. If it’s one of the more openly autobiographical moments on the album, DeCroo is less explicit elsewhere.

“Tear All Lovers Down” captivates with a strident piano hook, but “White Circles” draws us in with its subtler qualities, its words coming on like a transmission from the darkest hour of the wolf. The language on 'Campfires on the Moon' is frequently cryptic, but meaning surfaces nonetheless. DeCroo is wrestling with regret, loss, aging, love, memory, death, art—always with his own ongoing recovery embedded in the background. Gradually the album takes on an emotional force all its own, through its combination of quivering intimacy and DeCroo’s greatest natural resource—his poetry. As its 10 songs draw to a close, Haney throws a little discordant shade into “Ashes after Fire”, foreshadowing the envy that grips DeCroo as he visits some old friends at The Railway Club.

“They’re doing well,” DeCroo sighs, “their wellness never ends.” But there’s a deep irony at work. Breaking from a past in disarray, 'Campfires on the Moon' strongly suggests that its author’s own wellness has well and truly begun.

'Campfires on the Moon' will be released on Tonic Records April 28, 2015. Look for Rodney DeCroo on tour across Canada starting on April 16th in Vancouver, BC at The Fox Theatre. For more information and the most up-to-date Tour Listings, please visit: www.rodneydecroo.com

HOLLOW TWIN SET TO RELEASE NEW EP 'KEEPERS' ON APRIL 28th // EP RELEASE SHOW ON APRIL 26th @ HINDENBURG

For Immediate Release:March 26, 2015

Listen To/Post Hollow Twin - 'Finders Keepers':

(VANCOUVER, BC) - Vancouver soul-pop band Hollow Twin are independently releasing their 2nd EP 'Keepers' on Tuesday, April 28th and will celebrate the EP's release with a show on Sunday, April 26th at Hindenburg (23 West Cordova). Full details are listed below.

It was a rainy September day when Vancouver musicians Emmalee Watts and Becky Wosk first met back in 2012 and the two became fast friends. They were quick to bond over their love of music from the 60's and 70's and the two discovered that they actually lived only a few blocks away from each other! The 2 musicians became inseparable and quickly realized they were put together to make the music.

Emmalee's deep sultry voice and vintage guitar tones, paired with Becky's soulful vocals and endless lyrics, fueled the beginning of this duo's music. They started performing together as a folk duo under the name Chatterton Eve, making a name for themselves in Vancouver's live music scene. The pair soon wanted to make their sound much bigger, just like their heroes of the past. They switched from acoustic guitar to electric, added a drummer and bassist, and began paving the way for their big, soulful sound. And that's when Hollow Twin was born.

"We needed a name that you could really grab on to," Becky explains. "Emmalee and I were sitting together at the airport in Montreal. We were both really tired and huddled together, just grateful for each other's company and that's when the name came to us: Hollow Twin. It was perfect."

To round out the band, Emmalee and Becky were soon joined by Mitchell Williams on drums, Matt Johnson on bass and Joanne Zoleikhapour on keys/guitar. Hollow Twin then began to move forward with great momentum. After releasing their 3-song EP 'Noctuary' last year, the band hit the road, showcasing at Canadian Music Week and opening for bands such as: Repartee and The Darcy's. 2014 was a good year and Hollow Twin began to make its mark in a big way. In early 2015, they began working on their second EP as Hollow Twin with producer Winston Hauschild (Hannah Georgas, Wanting Qu) at Little Island Studios on Bowen Island. The result is their incredible sophomore EP entitled 'Keepers'.

Don't miss out on Hollow Twin's EP Release Show on Sunday, April 26th at Hindenburg! Hollow Twin's new EP 'Keepers' will be available on iTunes and all other fine digital retailers on Tuesday, April 28th. For more info, please visit: www.hollowtwin.com

Gunner & Smith Hit The Road For Eastern Canadian Tour Dates Starting On March 28th

For Immediate Release:

"Overall, a powerful debut from yet another band that’s bound to put Saskatoon on the musical map." - Stylus Magazine

“Gunner & Smith put forth honest roots rock with a compelling amount of grit, given a special sparkle” - Saskatoon Star Phoenix

LISTEN TO GUNNER & SMITH - 'EASE MY MIND':

(Saskatoon, SK) - It's time for Gunner & Smith to hit the road again! After spending much of 2014 on the road with almost 100 shows across Canada and the US, Saskatoon band Gunner & Smith are gearing up for their first tour of 2015 and it's going to be a solo one. Lead singer Geoff Smith will be performing as a solo Gunner & Smith, without the rest of the band, starting in Saskatoon on March 28th. See below for full tour schedule.

A lot can happen in a year. When Gunner & Smith released their first full-length album 'He Once Was a Good Man' back in February 2014, they set out to win fans one by one with multiple Canadian tours and even a few American shows. And it seems to be working. With just a little bit of hard work, plenty of determination and the help of their incredible video 'Towns', Gunner & Smith have proven themselves as a "band to watch" and have made their mark on the Canadian roots/alt-country scene.

Much of the credit for Gunner & Smith's success can be given to lead singer/man-in-charge Geoff Smith. "2014 was all about trying to get our album out to as many people, in as many places as we could," said Smith. "We are hoping to take what we've been learning from this last year and put it into our new album."

Upon the completion of the Spring 2015 Tour, Gunner & Smith will be heading to the recording studio to demo new material with plans to release a new album later this year. Until then, Gunner & Smith plan to stay on the road throughout 2015 with a mix of full-band and solo dates, including a string of tour dates in Western Canada coming up in June. Stay tuned for details!

Don't miss Gunner & Smith (solo) on tour across Eastern Canada this April. For full details, along with the most up-to-date tour schedule, please visit: gunnerandsmith.com.

VAMS Strong Sessions LIVE Concert On April 9th

For Immediate Release:

VAMS Strong Sessions LIVE Concert On April 9th The Music Says It All About Access And Ability

Featuring Vancouver musicians Chin Injeti, Jim Byrnes and highlighting the strengths and talents of artists with disabilities

(VANCOUVER, BC) – Chin Injeti and Jim Byrnes will be guest performers at the second Strong Sessions LIVE concert hosted by the Vancouver Adapted Music Society  (VAMS) and presented by LG 104.3 and SFU Woodward’s Cultural Programs next month. The uplifting, cabaret-style event will mix Vancouver-area performers in an effort to level the playing field around accessibility and disabilities.

Strong Sessions LIVE will take place on Thursday, April 9th at SFU’s Goldcorp Centre for the Arts (149 West Hastings Street, Vancouver, sfuwoodwards.ca).

Featured artists include recent Grammy-winner Injeti and Juno-winning Byrnes, roots artists Dustin Bentall and Kendel Carson, Dawn Pemberton, and members of Odds. Joining them on stage will be VAMS musicians Stanton Paradis, Jeff Standfield, Rolf Kempf, Richard Quan, and Greg ‘Spokes’ Labine. The evening will be hosted by familiar radio voices Larry Hennessey and Corrie Miller of 'LG 104.3 Mornings with Larry'.

The show celebrates The Strong Sessions CD, launched by VAMS in late 2013 to promote collaboration between artists with disabilities and independent professional musicians. The basic demos for this release were made at the VAMS wheelchair-accessible recording studio at G.F. Strong Rehab Centre before the tracks were worked on at a variety of studios including Bryan Adams’ Warehouse Studio and Fader Mountain.

“VAMS’ goal is to bring people together and in turn, make music more accessible to all. Disability is not a barrier to creativity – which this project highlights,” said VAMS co-founder and the driving force behind The Strong Sessions, Dave Symington.

Join us on Thursday, April 9th for Strong Sessions LIVE! Doors open at 6pm, and the concert begins at 7pm. Admission is $20 in advance, available online.

ABOUT VAMS | www.vams.org Vancouver Adaptive Music Society (VAMS) was co-founded in 1988 by two Vancouver musicians that happened to be quadriplegic, Sam Sullivan and Dave Symington. Sullivan, who played keyboards, and drummer Symington formed the society to overcome the barriers faced by musicians such as themselves – issues they had not come across before they became disabled as a result of sporting injuries.
