WiL To Release Eclectic New EP Songs On September 9th >> Western Canadian Tour Dates

STREAM the First Single 'Our Song':

Vancouver, BC - Calgary raised, Vancouver Island based singer/songwriter WiL is set to release Songs, an eclectic 6-song EP, on September 9th through Cordova Bay Records. September 9th also marks the start of a Western Canadian Tour that will begin and end on the Island, and includes a coveted opening slot for the legendary Mavis Staples in Calgary on September 17th. See below for a full listing of tour dates.

Known across Canada for his incredible guitar-string-breaking live performances, WiL is a performer that keeps getting better with age. At 45 he is comfortable in his skin – at home he balances out a weekly regimen of cycling and karate that help him focus on his music. And that is exactly what WiL did after coming off the road from touring in support his acclaimed 2014 album El Paseo.

Armed with the tools and knowledge that he gained from working with talented musicians and producers on his past recordings, as well as his years of commercial composition work experience at 6 Degrees Music, WiL felt the time was right to take on the task of recording an album all by himself. The result is a six song EP, free of inhibition and genre restriction; a standalone collection of music simply titled Songs.

"As with my last album El Paseo, a few of these songs were actually born from commercial ideas worked on under extremely tight deadlines, a process that I have surprisingly found works extremely well for me," WiL explains. "‘Tonight’, for example, was born over a few hours with guidance from Alec Harrison for a feature film called Night Pond. And ‘Our Song’ was a commercial demo developed with my mentor Dan McManus (from 6 Degrees Music) who possesses an uncanny ability for helping me discern and discover what best serves the song."

Look for WiL on tour in support of his new EP starting on September 9th. Please visit ibreakstrings.com for the most up to date tour listings. WiL's new EP Songs will be available on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers/streaming services on Friday, September 9th through Cordova Bay Records.

Just ahead of the September 9th release of their 3rd full-length album, True Blue, Edmonton-based pop band Jesse and the Dandelions are announcing their album pre-order with a hilarious infomercial, premiering now at Beatroute.ca.

Jesse and the Dandelions' True Blue infomercial features the smooth sounds of band leader Jesse Northey, and Paul Blinov and Amy Shostak of the Edmonton improv/comedy duo Gossamer Obsessions. The infomercial is mostly improvised with direction from Dylan Howard who also directed the band's most recent 'No Fun' video.

"Almost all of the scenes in the infomercial are improvised with a few guiding anchor points," explains Jesse. "I thought it would be really fun to do something to promote the album that was in essence non-musical. And Dylan did a fantastic job editing it into a watchable piece."

The Funk Hunters & Chali 2na Release Brand New Track + Video 'Word To Spread'

Watch Exclusive Video Premiere on The Untz

(Vancouver, BC) - Right on the heels of a huge performance at Pemberton Music Festival last weekend, The Funk Hunters and iconic Jurassic 5 founding member, Chali 2na, are announcing the release of their new single 'Word To Spread', with a brand new music video via The Untz. This track is the first from The Funk Hunters and Chali 2na's ILLectric EP, out Friday, October 14th on Westwood Recordings. Available now for pre-order on iTunes, with 'Word to Spread' as an instant download.

While ILLectric is their first release, The Funk Hunters and Chali 2na have been collaborating and touring together in North America and overseas for over 2 years now. The chorus in 'Word To Spread'  features Australian musician and World Beatbox champion Tom Thum, and speaks to life on the road; only having your song to share.

The visually stunning 'Word To Spread' video was shot on Galiano Island in B.C., where Nick Middleton and Duncan Smith first began working together on the project that would become The Funk Hunters. The idea for the video (funded by STORYHIVE) was to introduce Chali to the place where their music first started.

Producer/DJ Nick Middleton had this to say about the development of the track and video, “When I first heard Tom sing those chorus lyrics last year I immediately reached out to him about producing a song incorporating his message along with verses from Chali. Tom was into the idea right away and it just came together perfectly. Getting to bring Chali back to Galiano to shoot the music video - a place where Dunks and I first learned how to DJ and use turntables over a decade ago - was just the icing on the cake, I’m super proud of how it all turned out and I’m glad it has some special meaning for us too!”

The Funk Hunters and Chali 2na bring together their extensive back catalogues, for a live experience that blurs the lines between Electronic Dance Music and Hip Hop. Armed with four turntables, they effortlessly weave in and out of hip hop, funk, soul, and electronic bass music, all paired with their stunning custom-curated visuals. It's definitely a show you do not want to miss.

The Funk Hunters will wrap up their extensive summer festival touring this August which included their debut at Coachella, with shows at Shambhala and Burning Man. The Funk Hunters and Chali 2na will be touring in support of the ILLectric EP in the fall, tour dates to be announced soon. Please visit: thefunkhunters.com for the most up to date tour listings.

The ILLectric EP will be available on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers/streaming services Friday, October 14th. The Funk Hunters and Chali 2na's 'Word To Spread'  featuring Tom Thum is available NOW on Spotify and as an instant grat when you pre-order ILLectric on iTunes.

Jesse & The Dandelions To Release New Album 'True Blue' on September 9th

Watch Exclusive Premiere of 'No Fun' Video on Exclaim! :

(Edmonton, AB) -  Edmonton-based pop band Jesse and the Dandelions are excited to announce the independent release of their 3rd full-length album True Blue on September 9th with the launch of the video for the feature track ’No Fun’. Watch the Exclusive Premiere now at Exclaim.ca. Jesse and the Dandelions will also be heading out on tour in support of True Blue, starting with an album release show in Edmonton at The Needle on September 1st. See below for full tour listings.

Jesse and the Dandelions are a 4 piece art/space pop band, led by producer/engineer Jesse Northey. The band has been active in Western Canada for the last 5 years with success on campus community radio, and great opening slots for bands like Attack In Black, Hollerado, and July Talk. Their last release A Mutual Understanding (2013) is a gem of an album, enriched with classic synth and drum machine textures that pays respect to the past, while forging their own unique path forward. With the release of their 3rd full length album True Blue on September 9th, the band is continuing down that same path musically, aiming to create a cacophonous blend of noise and meticulously layered melody and harmony but this time the production levels going up a notch.

“One of the great features about recording your own records is that both your recording skills and (hopefully) your records get better with time,” said Jessie Northey. “True Blue is a little more psychedelic and grandiose in nature. It's not unusual to hear phasers, over top of lush strings while the drums are going wild and my voice tries to squeak a melody into the spots that are left over. I wanted to see what I could get away with while riding the line of something that was still considered melodic and listenable. Hopefully people embrace more of the weirdo elements! I was often inspired by bands like MGMT,The Flaming Lips, Tame Impala, and The Beatles while creating the album and I think fans of that type music will be able to spot the influence."

Jesse and the Dandelion’s fun and playful video for ’No Fun’, the lead single from True Blue, pays homage to Jesse Northey’s figure skating past. Jesse grew up in the small town of Fernie, BC, and as a young man, he was one of the only boys in figure skating within his community and this presented some challenges.

“I was actually quite good and I won every competition that I competed in,” Jesse explains.  “That being said, there weren't many other competitors! At a certain point I started getting beat up by a bunch by other kids at school and often got called names. I couldn't quite handle the pressure and I decided to quit skating and become a musician instead because I thought it might be able to redeem me. I've dedicated my life to that ever since, but I thought it would be fitting to give an homage to my past self by putting on the ol' figure skates and giving it another go, if only just for a music video. ‘No Fun’ talks about the perils of becoming a star and works as a fitting background to my gold medal Olympic skating performance.”

Look for Jesse and the Dandelions on tour starting September 1st in support of True Blue, more tour dates will be announced soon. Please visit jesseandthedandelions.com for the most up to date tour listings. Jesse and the Dandelions' 3rd album True Blue will be available on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers/streaming services on Friday, September 9th.

Winnipeg Duo Roger Roger Heading East For Tour Dates In Ontario + Quebec

Watch 'O Rainy Day' Live Video:

(Winnipeg, MB) - Winnipeg folk/roots duo Roger Roger have had a whirlwind 2016 so far! After kicking off the year with the release of their critically acclaimed debut album Fairweather, they've been touring non-stop playing plenty of shows across Canada, including dates at Festival Du Voyageur (Winnipeg) and the Tongue On The Post Festival (Medicine Hat). And Roger Roger have no plans to slow down anytime soon! The duo is heading back on the road this summer with another tour starting on August 5th at the Live From The Rock Folk Festival in Red Rock, Ontario. See below for full tour listings.

Roger Roger is truly a family affair. Twin siblings Lucas and Madeleine Roger are both singer-songwriters who have joined forces, each playing guitar and shamelessly harmonizing all over each other's songs. The offspring of producer/engineer/musician Lloyd Peterson (who co-produced Fairweather with Roger Roger), the twins have a knack for songwriting that must have something to do with growing up in a recording studio. They each bring their expansive creativity to the project and wholeheartedly embrace their differences, fusing Madeleine's magnetic sweetness alongside Lucas' unruly charm. Together, they bring a balance of folk, roots, and rock inspired songs in a beautifully produced album that makes for a remarkable first recording.

Released on January 17th, Roger Roger's debut album Fairweather made it to the number one spot on the Earshot National Folk/Roots/Blues Chart due to the success of their first single '13 Crows'. The album was made possible through a successful Kickstarter pre-sale campaign. Following their upcoming tour dates in Ontario and Quebec, Roger Roger will be doing a Homeroutes house concert tour in November and are planning to tour the UK and Europe in early 2017. Fairweather will be released in the EU/UK this October.

Look for Roger Roger on tour this summer, starting on August 5th at the Live From The Rock Folk Festival! Roger Roger's debut album Fairweather is currently available on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers/streaming services. Please visit rogerrogermusic.com for more information and the most up to date tour listings.

"'Fairweather' has threads of that life lived so closely and continually to songs and stories, making the worn cliché of “old souls” entirely relevant to their sound together." -   The Calgary Herald

"Madeleine’s theatre background lends itself well to writing folk songs that blend elements of real life with quirky fictional characters, while Lucas gravitates towards heavier rock sounds reflecting on the human experience. But 'Fairweather' also manages to find common ground between the two and maintains a sense of cohesiveness." -  Vue Weekly
