Vancouver musician Kele Fleming is excited to announce the release of 'Coda', the 3rd single from her new album The Song I’ll Write For My Whole Life which is out on October 2nd.

‘Coda’ is a song that looks to find light in the darkness, making it a perfect track for these troubled pandemic times. The video was filmed by documentary filmmaker Paulina Ortleib at Vancouver’s The Wise Hall just a few days before the pandemic lockdown in the city.

"‘Coda’ is a hopeful song despite the lyrics giving you a punch in the gut," says Kele Fleming. "I wrote the song to be really big music sonically while being an intimate song lyrically. The banjitar and rhythmic yearning embedded in the melody give the song an upbeat, folksy Sesame Street singalong feel. At the same time, the lyrics shine a spotlight on some of the darker elements of being alive in this time - loss of spirit and connection, addiction to technology and living daily nightmares. It’s a song of binaries and, ultimately, intends to create a space beyond simply hope or despair, addiction or connection."

Recorded live off the floor at Vancouver's Warehouse Studio with Juno-recognized engineer and producer, Sheldon Zaharko, Kele Fleming's 4th album The Song I'll Write For My Whole Life features songs about the environment, modern dislocation, coming of age as a queer person, and the lives of women. The 1st single from the new album 'Vanishing of Bees', released in 2019, helped to raise money for the David Suzuki Foundations's Butterflyway Project.

Kele Fleming's music career began in the early 90s when she formed Vancouver indie pop group Hazel Motes. The band, along with acts like Lava Hay and the Grapes of Wrath, helped define the city’s sound for that era.

‘Coda’ is out now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit: https://tinforest.com/

NEW SINGLE 'IF I HAVE TO DIE' OUT TODAY

Hailed as the next big band you haven't heard yet, Kingston indie rock sextet The Wilderness are set to release their first full-length album Until Tomorrow on August 21st. The 2nd single from the album 'If I Have To Die' is out today on all digital platforms, along with the official music video created by Chris Mills of Number Four Films (Modest Mouse, Interpol, Metric). Watch the video here.

The Wilderness' latest single ‘If I Have To Die’ is as much a statement of defiance as it is a response to crisis. It was born from the feeling of powerlessness in the face of the world falling apart, and acknowledges that sometimes the only power we have is to keep ourselves well, and that often, that has to be enough. This song was written before the COVID-19 crisis, but the sentiment carries a certain weight in this era of social isolation as we find ourselves constantly connected through our devices and ever more aware of the systemic failings of the institutions we ought to trust.

"'If I Have To Die' is a song that I felt I really had to write," says lead vocalist Jonas Lewis-Anthony. "We started 2020 by being bombarded with what at the time felt like pretty apocalyptic news. It felt like climate change, capitalism, coronavirus and a potential world war three was going to kill us all and there was nothing I could do to stop it. The song acknowledges the world is awful and although it feels like we're on the precipice of disaster, we can find comfort and peace in and around the people we love.”

Although they all currently reside in Kingston, ON, The Wilderness are a truly international band composed of a Brit, a Frenchman, two Americans, and two Canadians. Formed in 2015, the band have an independently released EP to their credit - Seminary Road (2018) and five singles - “Pick You Up” (2020), “Virginia Sapphire” (2019), “Fall (Despite What You Do)” (2019), “Dancing In The Dive Bars” (2018), and “Hurry Up And Wait” (2018).

‘If I Have To Die’ is available today on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit: thewildernessband.com

Vancouver musician Lola Parks is making her dreams a reality with the release of her new single ‘Dreamer',  out today on all digital platforms. The track is the first official single from her new album No Apologies, which is set for release on September 25th.

Lola Parks was inspired to write her new album No Apologies while at a First Peoples’ Cultural Council Indigenous Music Retreat in 2018. The experience led to a bigger and better Indigenous music community within British Columbia and resulted in an album with empowered, politically charged social commentary; a collection of tracks with multiple influences and genres, while maintaining a cohesive message and voice. The first single 'Dreamer' combines R&B, Pop, and Funk to create an empowering track about the importance of standing firm in your beliefs and working hard for your dreams.

“‘Dreamer’ is about standing up, speaking up, being bold, daring to be yourself, and standing strong in your roots,” says Lola Parks. "I’ve always been a seeker, a traveler, an idealist, and a dreamer. There’s always a realism to my dreams, however, because I know how to work my ass off and I’m always learning and trying to improve myself, what I know, what I do and who I have around me."

An Indigenous Canadian musical artist, Lola Parks is compelled to create, cultivate and share her art. Her mission is to give and be a voice: cultural and social brokerage through music and words. A 12th generation Canadian of Montagnais, Ukrainian, French and British ancestry, her heritage deeply influences her songwriting and music.

Over the past 20+ years, Lola has created a fiercely independent musical history that includes 3 studio releases, many collaborations, and performing around the globe. Her 4th studio album, No Apologies (out September 25th), features the previously released track 'Hey Hey' which has already aired on several CBC Radio programs, at the BC Culture Days 2019 opening ceremonies, and in the Talking Stick Festival 2020 promo video.

Lola Parks' new single 'Dreamer' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services. For more information, please visit: lolaparks.com

The Barrel Boys Announce Release Of 3rd Album On September 18th

NEW SINGLE 'GOING FISHING' OUT NOW
WATCH/SHARE LIVE VIDEO HERE

Toronto bluegrass powerhouse The Barrel Boys are excited to announce the release of their 3rd full-length album Mainline on September 18th. The first official single from the album 'Going Fishing' is out now after premiering last week on Roots Music Canada and to celebrate the release of the track, the band released a live performance video filmed and recorded live off the floor at The Mule Spinner in Hamilton, ON. Watch the video here.

Produced by Canadian mandolin icon and decorated engineer/producer Andrew Collins, Mainline is jam-packed with new original material penned by each of the band’s five members. With this project, the band digs deeper into the sounds of traditional bluegrass, classic country, folk, and new acoustic music, all of which is evident on the new single ‘Going Fishing’, a track that explores why a new dad might take up fishing.

“Ever wondered what to get a new father with two kids under three?” asks guitarist Ben Wright.  “A time consuming, expensive hobby that requires hours of driving! This song is a romantic look back on my first day fly-fishing on the Madawaska River. I caught two fish, three branches, and a few trophy logs.”

Over the course of the new album, The Barrel Boys explore classic tropes of bluegrass (including trains, heartbreak, mining, and murder) while grounding those themes in a distinctly Canadian context and bringing their own experiences into the stories.

“The Barrel Boys are a band that is sure to make listeners stop and take notice," says producer Andrew Collins. "As individuals, each is a talented singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist, yet together they still manage to up the ante. They 'lay it down' with the delivery of a focused unit, far beyond their years of experience. Their originals are well crafted, their harmonies are tight, and instrumentally they are all virtuosic, but every note is in service of their signature unified sound.”

The Barrel Boys honed their craft through a long-running weekly residency at Toronto’s Cloak and Dagger Pub, and over years of performing, writing, and recording together, they have endeared themselves to folk and bluegrass audiences across Canada. Notable performances include: Mariposa Folk Festival (ON), Folk Fest sur le Canal (QC), and Northern Lights Bluegrass and Old-Tyme Music Festival (SK).

The Barrel Boys' new single 'Going Fishing' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services. For more information, please visit: thebarrelboys.com.

2nd Single 'Compassion Machine' Out Today

Vancouver musician Kele Fleming didn't plan to release her new single 'Compassion Machine' in the middle of a global pandemic but the subject matter of the song now seems eerily fitting for these disconnected times.

Officially released today following its premiere on Aesthetic Magazine, ‘Compassion Machine’ is the 2nd single to be released from Kele Fleming’s 4th solo album The Song I’ll Write For My Whole Life which will be out on October 2nd.  Kele wrote ‘Compassion Machine’ using language that describes how we connect to our technology of choice and the ways in which we attempt to connect with ourselves.

"'Compassion Machine' is a series of metaphors, and an anthem, for how we seek connection through technology, and, at the same time, what that technology does to us as we seek connection through it," says Kele. "Each one of us has a compassion machine. It may take many forms – a religion or faith, a cell phone, a video game, a bottle of wine, a show to binge-watch on Netflix. The compassion machine is a salve to the day-to-day grind and helps numb out the pain of disconnection in the modern age.”

The founder of the early 90s Vancouver indie pop band Hazel Motes – which, along with acts like Lava Hay and the Grapes of Wrath, helped define the city’s sound for that era - Kele Fleming writes songs about the environment, modern dislocation, coming of age as a queer person and the lives of women. The 1st single from the new album 'Vanishing of Bees', released in 2019, helped to raise money for the David Suzuki Foundations's Butterflyway Project.

"My writing for this album is preoccupied with capturing what we may soon lose in the climate emergency, and grieving that loss," says Kele. "It is a call to action and also a beautiful lullaby for a time passing and a way of life that is threatened."

Kele Fleming's new single ‘Compassion Machine' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services. For more information, please visit: tinforest.com
