Folk singer-songwriter Ryland Moranz is excited to announce the release of 'If I Had Wings’, the first single from his new album XO, 1945, which is set for release on January 15th, 2021, through Tonic Records.

The video for ‘If I Had Wings’  features Ryland flying a plane which is apt given the name of the song, and it plays into the song’s theme - the exploration of the soul and the pursuit of happiness. Ryland developed a love for aviation at a very early age, through his grandfather, who was a recreational pilot and would pick him up at his local airfield.  By the time he was 14, he was a technically proficient (but unlicensed) pilot. Ryland did his pilot training in Lethbridge, Alberta - the windiest city in western Canada - where he still flies from today.

"'If I Had Wings' is a song about finding what you love and deciding to do that thing for the rest of your life," says Ryland. "I've found lots of things to love during my short time on earth, and aviation blends them all together. It's poetic, contemplative and horribly technical. It requires guts and gumption, a steady hand and cool head. It carries a mystique that is wholly unique and a style that evokes a simpler time. But most of all, it's complete and total freedom. When shooting the video we wanted to capture the total freedom that comes from that kind of aviation. The ability to escape and explore, answering to no one but the weather and time."

Originally hailing from Fort Macleod, Alberta, Ryland currently resides within the quaint musical community of Lethbridge. His concise and lyrically driven songwriting is deep beyond his years with an emphasis on storytelling and an increasing awareness that life is always bigger than you think. Ryland released his first album Hello New Old World in 2016 and has years of international touring under his belt (both as a solo act and as a member of Leeroy Stagger and the Rebeltone Sound), empathetically exploring his own stories and the stories of others.

‘If I Had Wings’ is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit: rylandmoranz.com

Vancouver Musician Quinn Pickering Releases New Single ULTRAVIOLET

2nd SINGLE FROM SUPERNOVA EP

Quinn Pickering · Ultraviolet

Just in time for your dark and moody fall playlists, Quinn Pickering releases his new single ‘Ultraviolet’ out today through How Weird Sounds.

‘Ultraviolet’ is the 2nd single from Quinn’s new EP Supernova, which is set for release on November 13th. Much like his previous single, ‘Grapefruit’ (released on September 18th), ‘Ultraviolet’ examines the end of a relationship. But where ‘Grapefruit’ was full of nostalgic, melancholic longing for a past relationship, ‘Ultraviolet’ examines the parts that hurt and things left unsaid, creating a dark, introspective soundscape with a hint of an 80s vibe.

“‘Ultraviolet’ is about watching a relationship fall apart and not being able to do anything about it,” says Quinn. “Sometimes people grow apart with important things left unsaid, and the chorus highlights the confusion and frustration that arises when the situation is beyond your control. It taps into questions such as, why things so clear to you, can go unnoticed by someone else. Ultraviolet light is unseen and yet vital for survival, much like communication in a relationship.”

Raised in New Westminster, BC, to a musical family of Métis descent, Quinn’s interest and passion for music and songwriting led to the formation of his first band, World Is History, when he was just nine years old. Earlier this year, he signed with Vancouver record label How Weird Sounds to release Supernova, a five song EP executive produced by Howard Redekopp and produced, mixed and engineered by Stefan Nowarre. Set for release on November 13th, Supernova showcases Quinn's youthful energy and love of classic songwriting, and puts his voice at the centre of it all. Quinn has shown a remarkable gift for connecting with audiences through his songs, and at just twenty years old, there's no telling how much more he's capable of.

‘Ultraviolet’ is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit: quinnpickering.org

Lauren Mann Releases New Album Memory & Desire and Premieres New Video

Watch/Share Video HERE

Singer-songwriter Lauren Mann's 4th studio album Memory & Desire is out today on all digital platforms! And to celebrate, Lauren is releasing the video for the album's 3rd single 'Don't Make a Mountain'. Watch the video here.

It was Lauren's longtime friend and collaborator, Ross Bodenmann, who had the idea for the 'Don't Make a Mountain' video, which they filmed in Comox Valley on Vancouver Island over the summer.

"I often tend to worry unnecessarily, so I wrote this song as a reminder to myself when I feel anxiety creeping in to take a deep breath, plant my feet firmly on the ground, and remember the bigger picture," says Lauren. "The video shows two contrasting characters, one who is lost and weary of the journey, and the other who is pushing through the obstacles searching for beauty and truth."

Lauren wrote the songs that make up Memory & Desire over the course of four very formative years, both personally and creatively. She was finding herself again as a woman entering her 30s, and as a songwriter and musician, she was soaking up influences from the albums she was listening to at the time from Jordan Klassen, Luca Fogale, Rose Cousins and more. And she was also learning covers of the classics: Gordon Lightfoot, Carole King, Leonard Cohen, and Beth Orton at local community jams on Pender Island.

"When I was introduced to a Harmony tenor guitar from the late 60s, my songwriting and sound began to centre around that," says Lauren. "After years of sitting with the songs, writing and rewriting, trying them live, and making demos, the recording process with producer Josh Rob Gwilliam was simple and organic. He helped bring the songs to life in my home studio using various organs, pianos, and other instruments I have laying around and crafting a sound that is as expansive as it is grounded."

Lauren Mann's new album Memory & Desire is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit: laurenmannmusic.com

Part funk, part jazz, part rhymin' - the Downtown Mischief crew are back with their sophomore release Galactic Mantis out on November 13th. The first single 'Warm Bath' gets its official release today, after premiering yesterday on Aesthetic Magazine. Watch the video here.

Downtown Mischief give us a slice of summer with their new single and video. The Victoria-based collective’s signature hybrid of funk, jazz and hip-hop comes through loud and clear on ‘Warm Bath’ and the song’s blissed out sex-positive vibe definitely makes for a fun and interesting video.

“‘Warm Bath’ is really just a song for those who love to bathe, but it's also for everyone who loves those people..so I guess it's kinda for everyone,” says DTM frontman Poppa Phat Smile. “Who doesn’t love a sudsy wet time? Almost no one. So we decided to splash some tunes together!"

A wild West Coast lifestyle fuels Downtown Mischief’s inspiration, and each member has a musical story to tell. This unique menagerie of musicians met through the raw energy of Friday night jam parties in Victoria, BC. Incredible live performances and hot vibey studio sessions gave rise to Downtown Mischief: a cast of musical characters, each with their own alter ego, who form a driving, pulsing machine that explodes with life on stage. This emerging band will not only captivate you with their beats, smiles and words, but they’ll get you moving and grooving!

The Wilderness Release Spooky Video For Their Latest Single GRAVEYARD

WATCH/SHARE VIDEO HERE

Today, indie rockers The Wilderness share the video for ‘Graveyard’, the 3rd single from their new album  Until Tomorrow which was released on August 21st.

Both the song and video for ‘Graveyard' revolve around the theme of feeling trapped in a cyclical, dead-end lifestyle, and that one day you may close your eyes and wake up 20 years later in the same exact place. The video, directed by Céline Klein and starring band members Jonas Lewis-Anthony and Liam Neale, is filmed in black and white and has an old school thriller/horror vibe to it.

Since there are parts of ‘Graveyard’ that have the infectious lightness of a pop song, the band wanted to make sure that the video hammered home the very serious, dark themes of the lyrics.

"With this video we wanted to create something that captured both the driving energy and intensity of the music, while still relating to the paranoid self-reflection of the lyrics," says Liam Neale.

Although they all currently reside in Kingston, ON, The Wilderness are a truly international band composed of a Brit, a Frenchman, two Americans, and two Canadians. Formed in 2015, the band have released plenty of music thus far, including: an album Until Tomorrow (2020), an EP Seminary Road(2018), and five singles  - 'Pick You Up' (2020), 'Virginia Sapphire' (2019), 'Fall (Despite What You Do)' (2019), 'Dancing In The Dive Bars' (2018), and 'Hurry Up And Wait' (2018).

The Wilderness - Until Tomorrow is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit: thewildernessband.com

THE WILDERNESS IS:
Jonas Lewis-Anthony (lead vocals + guitar)
