Vancouver Musician Syd Carter West Premieres Video For Her Latest Single CHEATERS

Vancouver musician Syd Carter West solved the problem of how to film a music video during a pandemic by making the safe choice to film it outdoors.

In early October, West, along with a small cast and crew, travelled to Golden Ears Provincial Park to film the video for her latest single ‘Cheaters’, a song that was written about her personal experience of being cheated on in a past relationship and how she was able to gain the confidence to end the relationship for good.

“The video for my tune ‘Cheaters' portrays a wicked bonfire setting where a mysterious ghost who died from a broken heart, helps a young woman come to the realization that the relationship she has with herself is more important than the love she has from her cheating partner," says West.

'Cheaters’ is the first single from Syd Carter West’s self-titled debut EP (released last month) and is proof positive that the bright-eyed, roots ‘n’ soul singer-songwriter is the real deal. With a set of pipes that “feels” - she can belt it out and pull it back in - West’s powerful vocals are reminiscent of Elle King, with a dash of Melissa Etheridge’s growl and the soul of Adele. Her earlier influences range from country chanteuse Deana Carter to the electric blues rock of Led Zeppelin.

Syd Carter West is currently working on new music with Vancouver-based producer John Ellis and will be releasing a new single from those sessions soon.

Syd Carter West’s new EP is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services. For more information, please visit: sydcarterwest.com

Vancouver Indie Rocker Terence Jack Releases New Single AVALANCHE

4th SINGLE FROM NEW ALBUM BLOOM
WATCH/SHARE ‘AVALANCHE’ VIDEO
HERE

Vancouver musician Terence Jack has taken his time releasing the singles from his new album Bloom (the 1st single 'Found It' was released in July 2019) and just 2 weeks ahead of the album's release, he's continuing his slow roll with the launch of the 4th single and video 'Avalanche'.  Watch the video here.

Cowritten with Greg Bevis from Vancouver band Bear Mountain and drawing inspiration from Terence’s recent move to a new city, ‘Avalanche’ is a song about change and the excitement and fear that comes with it.

"After moving to a new city, the unknown can be pretty overwhelming and exhilarating all at the same time," says Terence. "Not unlike being swooped up by an avalanche in motion; where it takes you, you won’t know. The best you can do is to ride it out and hope for the best. Either way you’ll end up dead or having survived something that will travel with you forever. I look at my life this way, reinventing and renewing around every corner.”

Before his music career took off, Terence could be found adventuring all over the world with his successful travel company. Mainly focused on South East Asia, Terence spent 13 years teaching young thrill seekers about the joy of adventure travel and the importance of human connection. After years of feeling like a limb was missing when he’d leave home without his guitar, Terence took a thoughtful life pause and decided he needed to dive headfirst back into his original passion, music.

Terence released his debut EP Never Get Back in 2016 and he took the songs on the road doing both Canadian and US tours, as well as hitting the festival circuit. Known for his energetic yet soulful performances, Terence has gained many new fans throughout his years of touring.

In 2019, Terence changed up his sound a bit, trading his singer/songrocker vibe for more of an electro/synth heavy sound. The result of this shift over to the more ambient, indie pop world was 'Found It', the first single from Bloom. He followed this up with the title track 'Bloom' in late 2019. The album's 3rd single 'Heart In, Head Out'  was released in June 2020.

‘Avalanche’ is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. And look for Terence Jack's new album Bloom on November 13th. For more information, please visit: terencejack.com

Downtown Mischief Release New Single FALL INTO THE SKY

West Coast funk hip-hop collective Downtown Mischief are floating and vibing their way through the pandemic with 'Fall Into The Sky', the 2nd single from their upcoming album release Galactic Mantis, which will be out on November 13th.

Drawing inspiration from the Douglas Adams book Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, 'Fall Into The Sky' is a posse cut featuring Downtown Mischief members: Old King Sundry, Krontokes, Wishbone Jenkins and Poppa Phat Smile

"'Fall into the Sky' was written in the studio," says Poppa Phat Smile. "Old King Sundry laid down that bouncing beat with those weird magical woodblock sounds and we all freaked. We were just dancing around the studio feeling 10 feet tall because before we added the e-piano, the beat sounded so raw and confident. Then Wishbone Jenkins laid down the e-piano through a Red Panda Tensor to give it that glitchy sound. The keys really changed the feeling. At first we thought it may be too "happy", but then we just gave in to the joy and started to float with the music."

A wild West Coast lifestyle fuels Downtown Mischief’s inspiration, and each member has a musical story to tell. This unique menagerie of musicians met through the raw energy of Friday night jam parties in Victoria, BC. Incredible live performances and hot vibey studio sessions gave rise to Downtown Mischief: a cast of musical characters, each with their own alter ego, who form a driving, pulsing machine that explodes with life on stage. This emerging band will not only captivate you with their beats, smiles and words, but they’ll get you moving and grooving!

Downtown Mischief’s new single ‘Fall Into The Sky’ is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services. For more information, please visit: downtownmischief.ninja

Singer-Songwriter Ryland Moranz Announces Release Of New Album

FIRST SINGLE 'IF I HAD WINGS' OUT TODAY!

Folk singer-songwriter Ryland Moranz is excited to announce the release of 'If I Had Wings’, the first single from his new album XO, 1945, which is set for release on January 15th, 2021, through Tonic Records.

The video for ‘If I Had Wings’  features Ryland flying a plane which is apt given the name of the song, and it plays into the song’s theme - the exploration of the soul and the pursuit of happiness. Ryland developed a love for aviation at a very early age, through his grandfather, who was a recreational pilot and would pick him up at his local airfield.  By the time he was 14, he was a technically proficient (but unlicensed) pilot. Ryland did his pilot training in Lethbridge, Alberta - the windiest city in western Canada - where he still flies from today.

"'If I Had Wings' is a song about finding what you love and deciding to do that thing for the rest of your life," says Ryland. "I've found lots of things to love during my short time on earth, and aviation blends them all together. It's poetic, contemplative and horribly technical. It requires guts and gumption, a steady hand and cool head. It carries a mystique that is wholly unique and a style that evokes a simpler time. But most of all, it's complete and total freedom. When shooting the video we wanted to capture the total freedom that comes from that kind of aviation. The ability to escape and explore, answering to no one but the weather and time."

Originally hailing from Fort Macleod, Alberta, Ryland currently resides within the quaint musical community of Lethbridge. His concise and lyrically driven songwriting is deep beyond his years with an emphasis on storytelling and an increasing awareness that life is always bigger than you think. Ryland released his first album Hello New Old World in 2016 and has years of international touring under his belt (both as a solo act and as a member of Leeroy Stagger and the Rebeltone Sound), empathetically exploring his own stories and the stories of others.

‘If I Had Wings’ is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit: rylandmoranz.com

Vancouver Musician Quinn Pickering Releases New Single ULTRAVIOLET

Quinn Pickering · Ultraviolet

Just in time for your dark and moody fall playlists, Quinn Pickering releases his new single ‘Ultraviolet’ out today through How Weird Sounds.

‘Ultraviolet’ is the 2nd single from Quinn’s new EP Supernova, which is set for release on November 13th. Much like his previous single, ‘Grapefruit’ (released on September 18th), ‘Ultraviolet’ examines the end of a relationship. But where ‘Grapefruit’ was full of nostalgic, melancholic longing for a past relationship, ‘Ultraviolet’ examines the parts that hurt and things left unsaid, creating a dark, introspective soundscape with a hint of an 80s vibe.

“‘Ultraviolet’ is about watching a relationship fall apart and not being able to do anything about it,” says Quinn. “Sometimes people grow apart with important things left unsaid, and the chorus highlights the confusion and frustration that arises when the situation is beyond your control. It taps into questions such as, why things so clear to you, can go unnoticed by someone else. Ultraviolet light is unseen and yet vital for survival, much like communication in a relationship.”

Raised in New Westminster, BC, to a musical family of Métis descent, Quinn’s interest and passion for music and songwriting led to the formation of his first band, World Is History, when he was just nine years old. Earlier this year, he signed with Vancouver record label How Weird Sounds to release Supernova, a five song EP executive produced by Howard Redekopp and produced, mixed and engineered by Stefan Nowarre. Set for release on November 13th, Supernova showcases Quinn's youthful energy and love of classic songwriting, and puts his voice at the centre of it all. Quinn has shown a remarkable gift for connecting with audiences through his songs, and at just twenty years old, there's no telling how much more he's capable of.

‘Ultraviolet’ is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit: quinnpickering.org
