Singer-songwriter Leeroy Stagger shares his rosy outlook on life with his hopeful and dreamy new single 'More Love Than Money' out today on all digital streaming platforms. Watch video here.

‘More Love Than Money’ is the 3rd single from Leeroy Stagger’s new album Dystopian Weekends, which is set for release on October 15th. A charmer of a track, ‘More Love Than Money’ speaks to finding happiness and looking on the bright side of life amidst a world of darkness.

"'More Love Than Money' is about making major life decisions based on happiness and intuition rather than fear," says Leeroy. "There are plenty of voices that can talk you out of a dream, but if you follow the ones that guide your heart, you realize that anything is possible - even if it means giving something up to start fresh, or at the bottom of something different. It’s about new beginnings and running off of the love of the people that support you.”

Recorded at Afterlife Studios in Vancouver at the beginning of the global pandemic, Leeroy Stagger's 12th full-length album, Dystopian Weekends, is the serum of truth with a slice of light and darkness that we all need right now. The album contains songs of environmental degradation, greedy land developers, Christmas songs about junkies and alcoholics, songs about race wars in America, modern day dust bowl songs of fleeing political ideology, break-up songs, and songs honouring dead friends. It all seems a bit much on paper, but Leeroy's skillful songwriting and the help of his band The Rebeltone Sound, have honoured it all in a very beautiful, relevant, and artistic way.

"I’m extremely proud of the last couple of records I’ve made," says Leeroy. "I tried very hard to reach as many people as possible with the production of those records, whereas this record I made for myself. Instead of referencing what was on the radio at the time, I went back to my favourite Bob Dylan records and records like 421 Ocean Blvd and The Silver Tongued Devil and I to plant some production seeds. I definitely followed some more traditional guideposts. I wanted the songs to speak for themselves."

'More Love Than Money' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more info, please visit leeroystagger.com.

Vancouver indie pop artist Sad China (aka Sunny Chen) is excited to announce the release of their new electro-tinged hyperpop single 'ilyimy' out today on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

‘ilyimy’ is the first single and title track from Sad China’s debut full-length album, which is set for release on October 22nd. A product of the COVID pandemic, 'ilyimy' explores the highs and lows of living in quarantine.

"Isolation’s been hard, but now I realize my quarantine routine forced me to reflect and process my trauma - stuff I’ve held on to that still hurts me, and informs how I relate to others, especially my loved ones," says Sad China. "When I wasn’t making music, sleeping or eating, I spent all my time with my ex, binging on oxytocin, THC, and CBD. Then we broke up. ‘ilyimy' is a mixture of wanting to rejoin society, dance, and touch my friends’ faces, but it’s also me stalking my ex on social media right after the breakup."

Sad China is a queer non-binary (they/she) settler immigrant on the ancestral homelands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, colonially known as Vancouver, BC. Sad China’s sound is avant-garde yet accessible and draws influence from 2000s pop and R&B, their Chinese heritage, and the choral arrangements they performed with multiple school choirs. They released their self-titled dream pop debut EP in 2016 and have shared the stage with Tonye Aganaba and Adewolf, and played livestreams with KeAloha, Sleepy Gonzales, and Blonde Diamond, among others.

Sad China's new single ‘ilyimy’ is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more info, please visit bysunnychen.com/music.

Rich Chambers · High School Can't Last Forever

Just in time for back to school, Vancouver musician Rich Chambers aims to impart wisdom to a new generation of high school students and nostalgia for the rest of us with his new single ‘High School Can’t Last Forever’ out today on all digital streaming platforms.

‘High School Can’t Last Forever’ is the 4th single from Rich Chambers’ new album Songs From The Garage set for release in early 2022. Full of old school rock n’ roll vibes, the track explores the innocence of youth and how high school often seems to represent that moment in our lives where anything is possible.

“I wrote this song looking to merge the sounds and vibes of Green Day and Buddy Holly,” says Rich. “The song is about innocence, both lost and gained, and how past reflections often determine our paths forward; hence, why I chose to merge the sound of two different rock vibes—one from the past and one from the present. Essentially, this is a three-minute, fast-paced, rock soundtrack for all of us to consider how we each define innocence.”

Not many use the term “rock n’ roll” anymore, but Rich Chambers fully embraces it. Taking his inspiration from classic guitar, pop, and country rock from the 50s right through to the 80s, Chambers puts a modern spin on his music to create songs that are comfortingly familiar, yet also freshly new.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Chambers has been playing guitar, singing, and writing songs since his early teens. With a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in Humanities, Chambers is not your average recording artist. There is a cerebral element to a lot of his music as he often dives into the essence of the human condition—but not always. Chambers himself will admit that sometimes music is just about having fun.

This open-minded approach to songwriting perfectly sums up all things Rich Chambers. With infectious melodies and relatable lyrics, he embraces all that life offers to write songs that resonate across multiple demographics.

Rich Chambers’ new single ‘High School Can’t Last Forever’ is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more info, please visit richchambers.com.

The Long War · 06 Deeper Blue

Vancouver indie rockers The Long War are giving sad summer vibes on their latest single 'Deeper Blue' out today on all digital streaming platforms.

'Deeper Blue' is the 4th single from The Long War's sophomore album Under A Heavy Sky, which is set for release on October 22nd. Full of melancholic longing, the laid-back track delivers a hazy, dreamy feel making one yearn for summers past.

'"Deeper Blue' is about nostalgia," says vocalist Jarrett Lee. "When I came to the west coast one of the first things I did was travel to California to clear my head. In all its beauty, I felt a lot of sadness and a nagging feeling of uncertainty. The song is about the struggle to hold on while saying goodbye. It's a place and time where I learned to embrace the beauty in life, good and bad."

Formed in Vancouver in 2016, The Long War won the 2017 CBC Searchlight Contest and their song 'Breathe In Breathe Out' was listed as one of CBC Music's Top 100 songs that year. Their first album,Landscapes, debuted on CBC First Play and the band has been featured on Q with Tom Power and in the pages of Canadian Musician Magazine. They’ve toured across Canada, performing at the CBC Music Festival in Toronto, Banff Performance In The Park, the reopening of Ottawa’s National Arts Centre as part of the Canada 150 Celebrations, and Folk Alliance International in Montreal.

'Deeper Blue' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more info, please visit thelongwarband.com.

Leeroy Stagger Releases New Single + Video DOES ANYBODY LIVE HERE?

Singer-songwriter Leeroy Stagger examines the emotional pain of a break-up on his latest single 'Does Anybody Live Here?' out today on all digital streaming platforms. Watch the video here.

‘Does Anybody Live Here?’ is the 2nd single from Leeroy Stagger’s new album Dystopian Weekends, set for release on October 1st. The song and video explore the pain of a broken heart and the loneliness and feelings of isolation that occur when a relationship ends.

“It’s been ages since I’ve felt the weight of a broken heart due to a break up,” says Leeroy. “Last year some close friends decided to break it off after a few years of a joined life together. As a writer, I’ve always been able to put myself into most others shoes and empathetically feel those feelings. That moment as it all goes down, if we are enlightened enough, it can go fairly smoothly. If we aren’t, it can be a real mess of tension and tears. This situation was no different from most breakups. Everybody can relate to a broken heart - the melancholy and pain of a separation. My job as a songwriter is to distill those feelings into a four-minute song.”

Recorded at Afterlife Studios in Vancouver at the beginning of the global pandemic, Dystopian Weekendsis the serum of truth with a slice of light and darkness that we all need right now.

"After 4 years of relentless touring, my band, The Rebeltone Sound, needed a break," says Leeroy. "I decided to go to Vancouver and put together a group of friends that I’ve always wanted to record with. I’d always wanted to work on a record with John Raham (Frazey Ford, Destroyer) and it happened that everybody was available that week. Little did we know that a global pandemic was sitting at our doorstep. It all started going down while we were recording. We’re sitting in this big black bunker of a studio while our phones are exploding with all this terrible news, and we’re sitting there trying to make a record while trying not to lose our minds. I think you can feel the nervous energy in the playing and the vocal delivery which actually makes for a beautiful recording."

'Does Anybody Live Here?' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more info, please visit leeroystagger.com.
