Ottawa rapper Pyano || (Eleven) kicks off the New Year with a provocative new single 'Way I See It' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Watch video here.

'Way I See It' is the latest single from Pyano's debut EP set for release later this year. Driven by a vibrant and energetic groove, 'Way I See It' is all about Pyano's journey of finding his sound as an artist.

"I’m always somewhere between the motivational, hardcore rap that I grew up on versus the more melodic stuff that I listen to today," says Pyano. "On this track, specifically, I find a good balance between the two which as a result enables me to celebrate the milestones of success in my life in spite of this whole pandemic thing. Despite the challenges and obstacles over the last couple years, I’m exactly where I planned to be, and further, which is why this track is a good representation of all the lessons I learned through all that."

Born in Amman, Jordan but currently living in Ottawa, Canada, Pyano has mastered the art of bringing charged vibes on records, ranging from lyrically conscious to catchy melodic anthems. His music transcends borders between hip hop subgenres using witty yet motivational lyrics and a bouncy cadence to give us his smooth signature style over an infectious piano laced beat.

Pyano released 3 singles in 2021, 'Closed Off',  'Pineapple Juice' and 'From the Beginning', his biggest single so far, and continues to make his introduction to the rap game known with his latest single, 'Way I See It' while teasing his first EP which will be out in 2022.

'Way I See It' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide.

Vancouver Jazz Musician Anita Eccleston Visited By Ghosts of Christmas Past on New Single LONG NIGHTS

Vancouver musician Anita Eccleston is excited to announce the release of her new holiday single 'Long Nights' out today on all digital streaming platforms. A cozy holiday song with a laid-back jazzy vibe, 'Long Nights' is brimming with nostalgia for family Christmases. Listen here.

Like many musicians last year, Anita took solace in music and writing songs to escape the pandemic, fighting through the noise and turmoil and trying to stay sane. Weeks and months passed and then suddenly, yet slowly it was Christmastime.

“I turned my thoughts inward, to my family and the many Christmases at the home where I grew up," says Anita. "I saw in my mind’s eye the view of the Christmas lights out above my bedroom window as a child. I remembered gazing into the night sky at the stars, wondering if the bright one was the Christmas Star, the longest nights of the year, especially Christmas Eve, waiting for morning, excited and filled with wonder.”

Nostalgia inspired an idyllic remembrance, and the song poured out of her in a couple of days. And although she was unable to be home in Kamloops for Christmas after such a hard year, she was able to share the song with her family via a Christmas Day Zoom call.

Anita then banded together with cellist Doug Gorkoff (Black Dog String Quartet, The Living, Plastic Acid Orchestra) to produce the recording at her home studio.

“When this thing started, everyone had to figure out how to record at home," says Anita. "We made this recording in my basement, in a cozy room packed with books and musical instruments."

Kris Ruston (Death Mountain Sound) mixed the track and Chris Gestrin (Public Alley 421) mastered it. And Anita partnered up with Patrick Collins (Alwaysfurther Films, This End Up, Peaches) to produce the music video to accompany the song.

This year Anita is glad to give her song to the world, a present she hopes will warm hearts and stir up the enduring nostalgia the season brings, like a winter oasis, every year. And she is also finally planning a trip home.

'Long Nights' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more info, please visit anitaeccleston.com.

BC Indie Rockers Leather Apron Revival Release New Single 8 YEARS FREE

2nd SINGLE FROM NEW ALBUM
OUT JAN 28th

WATCH/SHARE VIDEO HERE

BC indie rock group Leather Apron Revival are back with a brand new single, '8 Years Free', out today on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

‘8 Years Free’ is the 2nd single from Leather Apron Revival’s new album Light & Shadow, which is set for release on January 28th. The band came up with the idea for the muscular riff-driven track in the unlikeliest of places—on top of a mountain.

“We had a very rare, full day to ourselves, while waiting to play a show one night at a helicopter access only backcountry lodge,” says bassist Grady Pasiechnyk. “And we came up with this idea of a guy on the run for a crime he had no choice but to commit, and for 8 years he’d managed to fly under the radar, until one day he was busted just sitting at the bar in a no name town. We had to get creative recording the song, specifically starting it, as we’d always just practiced by me yelling ‘2-3-4’ and we’d all hit the first note. Our producer, Leeroy, had us set up to record live off the floor, so Lennan needed to be set up in an isolation booth to play guitar and do vocals while Jeff and I were in the main room. This meant Lennan couldn’t hear me yell out the start of the song. Leeroy ended up having to count us in on the talk-back mic, and we thought it sounded so cool that we left it in the final mix and made it the start of the album.”

Formed in 2017, Leather Apron Revival is a guitar-fuelled power trio hailing from British Columbia's Kootenay region. The band's vintage sounds are warm and rich with visceral grooves and bluesy riffs, combining thoughtful songwriting and powerful melodies to create a timeless yet modern rock soundscape with a dash of old-school Canadiana.

Leather Apron Revival released their self-titled debut EP in 2019 and will follow-up with their first full-length album Light & Shadow, produced by Leeroy Stagger and mastered by John Greenham, on January 28th, 2022.

‘8 Years Free' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more info, please visit leatherapronrevival.com.

Vancouver Dream-Pop Group Blonde Diamond Release New Single RED FLAGS

Blonde Diamond · Red Flags

Vancouver alt-pop group Blonde Diamond shed light on abusive relationships with their new single ‘Red Flags’ out today on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

The 2nd single from their debut full-length (out in 2022), 'Red Flags' reads like a cautionary tale, a retrospective of moments leading up to the realization that a seemingly fairytale romance has slowly evolved into a dark and twisted, manipulative stronghold.

Inside the first few bars of the track, the group grabs you with all the hallmarks of their signature sound: energetic drums, sparkly keys, dreamy guitars, slinky bass, and intimate vocals. Lead vocalist Alexis Young says she wrote ‘Red Flags' to help break the silence that so many people feel about speaking up about abusive relationships.

"Post the breakup of a very long relationship and at a particularly vulnerable moment in my life, through a chance encounter I found myself in a relationship that was—on its surface—everything that I was looking for," says Alexis. "The romance, the infatuation, the lust. It was the type of affair that you only read about in books and see in films. However, the red flags had presented themselves from the get-go and I initially ignored them. I wanted to see the good in this person, and believe that I could be a strong and positive force in their life. When it finally got to the point that I allowed myself to accept that it was abusive and emotionally manipulative, I felt stupid and ashamed that I could be so naïve and easily coerced into such a spiral of entrapment and darkness. I wanted to write this song not just as a form of healing for my own experience, but also as a message to others that you CAN walk away. That you're not alone. And that it's easy to get swept up and lose perspective when you're in the eye of the storm."

Shaping a soundscape of dreamy synth-pop bliss with unapologetic and captivating lyricism, Blonde Diamond has been on a trajectory that is hard not to be dazzled by. The band has graced stages across Canada, Europe, Australia, the US, and India, sharing bills along the way with stalwarts such as Portugal. The Man, Broken Social Scene, Bishop Briggs, Chromeo, Mother Mother, and more.

Blonde Diamond’s newest offerings hone in on their strongest assets—frontwoman Alexis Young’s vocal prowess, reinforced by the band’s ethereal instrumentals. Since their inception in 2016, Blonde Diamond has made waves in musical realms across the world. The group’s eagerly awaited full-length debut record is expected in 2022.

'Red Flags’ is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide.

LATEST SINGLE hum人n
HERE

"With ilyimy, Chen has only started building new beginnings atop a solid foundation. Adversity's shadow will always fall on Chen — they are "hum人n," after all. But as ilyimy proves, light and love will always prevail." - Exclaim!

[Sad China/Sunny Chen pronouns: They/She]

Today's the day! Vancouver musician Sad China's (aka Sunny Chen) new bilingual hyperpop quarantine album ilyimy is out today on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

And to celebrate the release of their debut full-length album, Sad China is also releasing the video for 'hum人n', the 4th single from ilyimy. Watch video here.

"As a non-binary Asian Canadian, assigned female at birth, I’ve endured misogyny, abuse, fetishization, and other forms of violence simply by being gendered and racialized (which are social constructs upheld by people and organizations to maintain the white supremacist heteropatriachy), especially within Vancouver's music and art scene," says Sad China. "As a human, all I want is to love, belong, and create. When we feel alone during our darkest nights, or are unable to access community, our ancestors keep watch over us. We need allies to redistribute power and wealth to us, so we can escape, heal, and thrive. You will be safe and respected, and we’re stronger together."

Sad China’s sound is avant-garde yet accessible and draws influence from 2000s pop and R&B, their Chinese heritage, and the choral arrangements they performed with multiple school choirs. They released their self-titled dream pop debut EP in 2016 and have shared the stage with Tonye Aganaba and Adewolf, and played livestreams with KeAloha, Sleepy Gonzales, and Blonde Diamond, among others.

Sad China worked closely with experimental electronic artist Kerub (aka Vi Levitt) on their new album, crafting 7 of the 10 tracks with them. Created during the COVID pandemic, ilyimy is a quarantine album that Sad China wrote for all of us—their community, their ancestors, and their loved ones.

ilyimy is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more info, please visit bysunnychen.com/music.
