Thunder Bay pop duo the Lockyer Boys return with two summer jams to add to your beach day playlists! Their new single ‘Daisy’ was written with the same dream team that brought the boys’ previous singles ‘Surfing in L.A.’ and ‘LATKD’–producers Jeff Dawson (Daniel Powter, State of Shock) and Alan Poettcker (These Kids Wear Crowns)–and is the A-Side to their double single with ‘All I Can’, created with Scott Helman. ‘Daisy’ is the 3rd single to be released from Lockyer Boys’ debut album set for release in 2023. The track encompasses some of the Lockyer Boys’ favourite moments in the recording studio.

“On our new song ‘Daisy’, we have Jeff singing backup vocals and Alan adding layers upon layers of tambourine and cowbell–it’s just a good time,” says Charlie. “Hearing it brings back a lot of memories from the past 3 years of recording and growing as artists.”

With its infectious pop hooks, ‘Daisy’ is the fun kind of love song that you sing in the car with the windows down, but it’s also a reminder that love isn’t all fun and games.

“Daisies are a symbol of innocence and purity, but they are also a persistent weed,” says Will. “This is the dichotomy of love. It can make you happy and also drive you insane.”

Lockyer Boys (Will and Charlie Lockyer) are brothers born and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The duo made their first steps as a cover band, quickly gaining recognition for great harmonies and multi-instrumental talent. They are currently completing their debut album, which features their poignant songwriting and songs co-written with Jeff Dawson, Shawn Hook, Scott Helman, Daniel Powter, Brian Howes, Alan Poettcker, and Akylla.

'God Only Knows' is the lead single from Fynyx Nation's upcoming EP release The ColdRoom, which explores a fresh sound with a new understanding of who he is as an artist. He brings all the fun of disco and alternative pop with the added energy of synth-wave as the backdrop for his infectious melodies and thoughtful lyrics, which are definitely front and center on this track.

Fynyx Nation is the brainchild of Adrian Essiet’s innovative and free spirit. There are certain songs that take you back to an exact place and time. And Vancouver artist Dust Cwaine taps into that feeling with their new single and video '90's Darling' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

'90's Darling' is the lead single from Dust's upcoming LP Arcana set for release on September 23rd. The track blends 90s sensationalism and pop culture to drive nostalgia, making it feel like a musical time capsule. Dust offers a youthful lyrical viewpoint while producer Josh Eastman gives the song a mature 90s rock inspired sound. Crafted to feel like it belongs in the liminal space between a memory and our immediate reality, ‘90’s Darling’ feels like a song you could have heard in a Zeller’s Diner on a trip with your grandma to pick up a VHS of Disney’s animated movie musical Hercules in 1997.

“This song brings me back to my childhood, the things that distracted me from the world and shaped me," says Dust. "It has a sense of longing for sillier times. I really wanted the lyrics to acknowledge the present moment uniquely. When I sing it, it feels like I’m singing into a time machine. Sonically it feels both new and familiar, which was a conscious effort by Josh Eastman, who produced this track. This song sits among an album of songs that are navel gazey. It’s one of many little jaunts to the past we take on the journey that is Arcana.”

Dust Cwaine (aka David Cutting) is a Singer-Songwriter and Drag Artist. They are a Non-Binary Aromantic, known for their bright and earthy creativity. Dust’s art centers itself in the political nature of queer identity, evoking a sense of belonging and togetherness with their presence in live spaces.

Dust’s music carries inspiration from the alt-rock insurgence of the late 90s and early 2000s, lyrically weaving earnestness with humor, for an emotional familiarity that is immediately disarming. Their debut LP titled Arcana (out on September 23rd) explores themes of fatness, sexuality, death, Aromanticism, and sacrifice. Arcana was produced in collaboration with Josh Eastman of Helm Studios and features production from PLEASEBENiCE and Ashton. Also featured on the album is Calgary rapper Tea Fannie.

Victoria-based jazz soul group Nick La Riviere and The Best Laid Plans are back with ‘Where We Go’, the lead single from their new album Get Ready!, out now on all digital streaming platforms.

An accomplished trombonist who has toured internationally with bands such as the JUNO Award winning Paperboys, Michael Kaeshammer, and 54-40, Nick La Riviere showcases his vocal AND trombone talents on the soulful piano driven pop track ‘Where We Go’.

"I wrote this song around the time that Spirit of the West frontman John Mann was struggling with Alzheimers," says Nick La Riviere. "While I didn’t know him personally, I perform regularly with another Spirit member, Geoffrey Kelly, and heard about his struggles. The song is a personal take, stating that I want to achieve as much as I can with the time I have on this earth, and hopefully do something worth remembering, like he did, even if I can’t remember myself.

Nick La Riviere and The Best Laid Plans’ original music is influenced by artists like Trombone Shorty, Galactic, The Preservation Hall Band, and The Soul Rebels, to name a few. Their new album Get Ready! is full of pop and funk grooves with New Orleans style horns and an energy injection of wild solos. The band features Nick La Riviere on trombone and vocals, Miguel Valdes on trumpet, Barrie Sorensen on sax, Kelly Fawcett on guitar, Attila Fias on keys and vocals, Louis Rudner on bass, and Alex Campbell on drums.

Toronto Indie Rock Duo Soft Set Release New Single + Video DIAMOND

Toronto shoegaze/indie rock duo Soft Set are back with a brand new single and video 'Diamond', out now on all digital streaming platforms. Watch video here.

Following the release of 'More More More' earlier this year, ‘Diamond’ is the 2nd single from Soft Set’s new album Still Life set for release later this summer. Mastered by Simon Scott (Slowdive) at SPS Mastering studio in the UK, the fast-paced, dark and brooding track was inspired by a true crime podcast.

“We heard of this story of a boy who killed his mother and then himself in Jefferson Township, NJ, in the late 80s and the whole story was just so bizarre,” says Soft Set’s James Gray. “He seemed to be a good kid and all of that changed within a matter of months leading up to the tragic night when everything changed. It’s a fascinating story and there’s a great podcast called ‘The Devil Within’ that explores what happened and what possibly drove this boy to do what he did. Check it out!”

The origin story for Soft Set begins with James Gray and Nathan Athay meeting for the first time in high school in Barrie, Ontario. It didn’t take long in their friendship for them to realize that they had a lot in common, especially when it came to their taste in music. Drawing on influences from iconic artists that have inspired them on their musical path—The Stone Roses, The Smiths, My Bloody Valentine, RIDE, Slowdive, Happy Mondays, The Boo Radleys, Mercury Rev—Soft Set’s music runs the gamut from shoegaze to dream pop to 90s Brit pop all behind a hazy, layered wall of sublime sound.

Soft Set released their debut EP Love and Dancing in 2020. RIDE’s Mark Gardener mixed the EP at his studio in Oxfordshire, UK (OX4 Sound). Their debut full-length Still Life, which is mixed by Shae Brossard (Arcade Fire, Godspeed You! Black Emperor) and mastered by Slowdive’s Simon Scott, will be out later this summer.
