Yukon Musician Erica Dee Mah Releases New EP Paper Wealth

STREAM/SHARE 2nd SINGLE
'CROCUSES'
HERE

Erica Dee Mah · Crocuses

Yukon-based orchestral folk musician Erica Dee Mah shares her new EP Paper Wealth out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

To celebrate the launch of the EP, Erica is also releasing 'Crocuses' as the 2nd single following the release of the previous single 'The Garden', which debuted in March. 'Crocuses’ is a serene and ethereal track written as an ode to artistry and expression.

"I wrote this song about the last summer I lived in Vancouver before moving to the Yukon," says Erica. "I was taking guzheng lessons at Crystal Mall and would ride my bike through the city to my lesson each week. It was a time of deep musical study. The song celebrates personal creativity and freedom, and cultural connection."

A singer-songwriter and contemporary guzheng player, Erica grew up in Smithers, BC, and then lived in Vancouver from 2000 to 2014 before moving to her current home in Whitehorse, Yukon. In 2022, she released The Sargasso Season, an original collection of songs written on the traditional 21-stringed Chinese zither. The album, which received national media recognition, is an exploration of sounds and possibilities on the versatile instrument, and seeks out a place for the guzheng in Canadian folk-roots music. Erica writes about transoceanic journeys, Chinese-Canadian identity across generations, and finding connection in new landscapes. Her new EP Paper Wealth draws on similar cultural themes, but with much deeper knowledge of the traditional instrument.

Says Erica: "Paper Wealth is a collection of songs that I wrote on the guzheng about Chinese-Canadian cultural identity across generations. July 1st, 2023, marked the centennial of the 1923 Chinese Exclusion Act, and while writing these songs, I thought about the long journey to citizenship and the even longer journey to social acceptance that Chinese-Canadians have endured over the past century."

Paper Wealth is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit ericamah.com.

Vancouver Folk Musician Etienne Siew Shares New Single CHASING DREAMS

LEAD SINGLE + TITLE TRACK FROM
DEBUT ALBUM OUT ON JUNE 20th

STREAM/SHARE HERE

Etienne Siew · Chasing Dreams

Vancouver folk-roots musician Etienne Siew shares his new single 'Chasing Dreams' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

'Chasing Dreams' is the lead single and title track from Etienne's debut album set for release on June 20th. The driving, energetic country-influenced track is full of inspiration about trying to live a life doing what you love.

"'Chasing Dreams' was written as a reminder for listeners that life is too short not to go after the things you love and to work towards your passions that truly light you up inside," says Etienne. "The lyrics were pieced together on early morning drives to various jobs, as I dreamed of working for myself and being an independent artist. The instrumentation and slide guitar represent the energy of forging ahead to get to the places you want to go!"

Etienne's guitar melodies and lyrics paint a picturesque bridge between the beauty in nature and the listener. His deeply reflective narratives speak about the resilience and perseverance he has found while pursuing his dreams as a singer-songwriter. He leans into his ancestry as an artist of Caribbean and British Heritage, to relay stories of connection and empathy that people from all walks of life can relate to. He has performed internationally, and his authenticity as a songwriter has been recognized numerous times, including the distinction of the Country/Roots Artist of the Year and Top Fan Vote at the 2021 Fraser Valley Music Awards.

His winding path from kinesiologist/coach to singer-songwriter is reflected in his upcoming debut album Chasing Dreams. In this project, Etienne aims to share his reflections as an independent artist and explores the themes of healing, empathy, resilience and social and environmental justice, which were amplified during the wake of the pandemic. Whether he is performing in a theater, or near a campfire, his blend of warm guitar melodies and powerful vocals will speak to your heart and make you feel as though you are walking beside him in his stories.

'Chasing Dreams' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit etiennesiew.com.

Vancouver Musician Naomi King Shares New Single LIKE ALL THE OTHER BOYS

2nd SINGLE FROM NEW ALBUM
BLACK WATER OUT ON MAY 17th

WATCH/SHARE VIDEO HERE

Vancouver alt-rock musician Naomi King shares their new single 'Like All The Other Boys' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

'Like All The Other Boys' is the 2nd single from Naomi's new album, Black Water, set for release on May 17th. Naomi wrote the amusing and cheeky track about being pursued by a guy who becomes disinterested when he finally gets what he wants.

"‘Like All The Other Boys’ is a fun rant about a guy that love-bombed me and then completely lost interest when I finally reciprocated," says Naomi. "My best friend was going through the exact same thing at the exact same time, so I wrote it for the two of us. While I might have been mad when I wrote it, the song is so fun and the music video so hilarious, I now just laugh when I hear it!"

Music has always been a part of Naomi’s life. In fact, their mother says they sang before they spoke. They began learning to play the piano at four years old, picking up the violin at six, and when they were nine, Avril Lavigne released her first single. And Naomi was never the same. They stole their mother’s guitar and never gave it back, and have been writing songs ever since.

When Naomi was fifteen, they started posting their original songs on YouTube. Over the years, they would not only grow as a singer and songwriter, but as a producer. They have released over twenty albums independently, and while you can tell they didn’t really know what they were doing in the beginning, Naomi wears that badge with pride. But with Black Water, they did it differently.

Completely self-written and produced, Naomi's new album Black Water is a deep and personal project, exploring mental health, bipolar disorder, manipulative relationships, coercion, assault, and healing. From quiet and ambient tunes, to loud and angry rock, to happy pop, to fantasy soundtrack themes, Black Water explores the deepest parts of some of the hardest years of Naomi King's life.

'Like All The Other Boys' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit naomikingofficial.com.

Edmonton Musician Christin Hyshka Shares New Single SOMETHING THAT I CAN BELIEVE

LEAD SINGLE FROM
NEW ALBUM RESCUE

WATCH/SHARE VIDEO HERE

Edmonton singer-songwriter Christin Hyshka shares his new single and video 'Something That I Can Believe' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

'Something That I Can Believe' is the lead single from his new album Rescue set for release on June 13th. The hopeful folk-roots song speaks to the search for faith and meaning in today’s world.

"I wrote 'Something That I Can Believe' as a case for belief," says Christin. "Maybe it’s belief in your family or your country, in principles or in God. We have so much information coming at us in all directions today that it’s hard to know what to believe, but that doesn’t dismiss its importance."

Christin grew up in rural Manitoba listening to Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Steve Earle and was greatly influenced by the imagery that these artists depict through their songwriting. He now lives in Edmonton, Alberta, where he recorded his debut album, The First Word, in 2021 and his sophomore album Rescue, which is set for release on June 13th. His new album is a storyteller of songs that reflect on the human condition exploring themes of fear, longing, faith, and desire.

'Something That I Can Believe' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit christinhyshkamusic.com.
