Vancouver Indie Folk-Pop Artist Micae Shares New Single BLACKBERRIES

STREAM/SHARE
LYRIC VIDEO
HERE

Vancouver indie folk-pop artist Micae shares her new single 'Blackberries' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

A wistful and tender track, ‘Blackberries’ captures the haunting beauty of memory and love that lingers long after it’s gone. The song began as a writing exercise suggested by Claire Miller-Harder (co-lyricist), who encouraged Micae to create a song using images primarily to see where it led. Taking this prompt to heart, Micae went out walking, jotting down anything that reminded her of the relationship she was grieving. Those scattered observations became the foundation of ‘Blackberries’.

“I wanted 'Blackberries' to explore how love lingers even as time moves on," says Micae. "It’s a song about remembering someone who’s left an imprint on your heart and reconciling with the part of you that’s still connected to them. The person who inspired this song took me berry picking, and we froze the berries, one bag for each of us. But we broke up before I ever had the chance to share them with him. The berries stayed in his freezer.”

Micae’s introspective songwriting and expressive vocals have earned her recognition both live and in the studio. Classically trained in voice from age four to twenty-three, she earned a Bachelor of Music Therapy in 2021 and now runs her private practice, InTandem Music Therapy, supporting neurodivergent youth through songwriting and musical expression. Currently pursuing an MA in Education, her research focuses on how autistic students use technology to access education equitably. She’s also working on her debut full-length album, It All Looks A Little Different Now, which weaves themes of feminism, justice, forgiveness, and love into a sound rooted in indie folk-rock with a touch of country longing.

'Blackberries' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit micaemusic.com.

Vancouver Musician Ché Aimee Dorval Shares New Single + Video JOYRIDE

WATCH/SHARE VIDEO HERE

Vancouver musician Chè Aimee Dorval shares her empowering new single and video 'Joyride' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

'Joyride' is the first new music we've heard from Chè since the release of her acclaimed album, The Crowned, in 2023. On this new single, Chè crafts an atmospheric blend of late-night trip-hop, dreamy art-pop, and laid-back electronica—reminiscent of Goldfrapp’s sleek production, Bonobo’s organic pulse, and Lana Del Rey’s moody allure. It's a new sound experiment for Chè, but her voice and experience remain at the forefront, coming through loud and clear.

'Joyride' was one of those songs I’d been writing on and off for years, and it took on all sorts of shapes and meanings over time," says Chè. "It wasn’t until recently when everything in the world felt like it was ramping up and the Canada/U.S. relationship started to look very toxic that I finally felt inspired to finish it. I’m someone who apologizes for pretty much everything. It's almost a knee-jerk reaction just for existing on this planet. Maybe it’s because I’m Canadian or maybe it’s because I’m a woman, but it’s something I’ve tried to curb over the years. For me, this song is about saying 'no' to a broken situation and not apologizing for setting boundaries or speaking up when it needs to be said."

For the 'Joyride' video, Chè enlisted dancer Joi Of Dance and videographer Kevin B. Smith to help deliver the empowering message of the song.

Says Che: "Joi’s dancing is pure power and soul—it embodies everything I’ve always tried to convey through my music. 'Joyride' is about reclaiming your power, embracing who you are, and honouring your needs without compromise. Collaborating with her on this felt like a perfect fit. Joi created this routine for a track from my last album, The Crowned, but because of constraints, we never got around to making the video. I’ve always felt a bit disappointed that such a powerful piece of art went unused. When it came time to plan the 'Joyride' video, it was clear that her performance was meant to bring the song’s story to life."

‘Joyride' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit cheaimeedorval.com.

The Southern Residents Share Debut Album FOLK SIGNALS

STREAM/SHARE NEW SINGLE
'A MOTHER'S LAMENT'
HERE

BC folk group The Southern Residents share their debut album Folk Signals out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here. The band is also featuring 'A Mother's Lament' as the 2nd single from the album, following the previous single 'Devyn Gale'.

Folk Signals was born from the collaboration of Tom Taylor and Adrian Dolan, two seasoned figures in the Canadian music scene. When Tom set out to record his original folk-inspired songs, he needed musicians who could bring his vision to life. Adrian, a multi-instrumentalist and experienced producer, was the ideal partner. Together, they assembled a group of Canada’s finest musicians, each contributing their unique sound to the project.

With Tom Taylor on acoustic guitar and vocals and Adrian Dolan playing the fiddle and mandolin, the lineup also includes Scott White on bass from Vancouver Island’s renowned The Bills; Jeanne Tolmie of The Luckies, adding rich vocal harmonies; and Shanti Bremer from The Sweet Lowdown, whose banjo adds a traditional bluegrass touch. Victoria’s Daniel Lapp, an acclaimed fiddler and multi-instrumentalist, brings his talents to the twin fiddle tunes, while David Hughes of She Stole My Beer and The Radio Grande plays the dobro.

With so many BC musicians involved in The Southern Residents project, it comes as no surprise that Folk Signals is an album with a focus on British Columbia based songs that cover topics from across the province.

"Folk Signals is an album that covers topics from a fallen Wildland Firefighter in Revelstoke to a mother mourning her daughter’s disappearance on the Highway Of Tears," says Tom Taylor. "While the album deals with the subject of loss on a number of the tracks there is also a more light-hearted line of storytelling that runs through the record pulling it away from a darker path, providing the listener with a range of emotional experiences."

For their latest single 'A Mother's Lament,' the band enlisted another BC musician to help with the project. Says Tom: "'A Mother’s Lament' is a song I wrote with Barney Bentall. It’s the story of a mother mourning the loss of her daughter on the Highway Of Tears. There is a line in the song, ‘are you cold my sweet darling’ which suggests there is a mystery as to where someone is. We thought this could apply to the many missing Indigenous women in BC and the importance of keeping their stories alive."

Folk Signals is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide.

Leeroy Stagger Shares Video for THESE DAYS Ahead of Upcoming Tour Dates

WATCH/SHARE VIDEO HERE

Victoria-based alt-country musician Leeroy Stagger shares the acoustic video for 'These Days', the latest single from his new album 3 AM Revelations out now on all digital streaming platforms via Tonic Records. Watch video here.

'These Days' is the third single to be released from 3AM Revelations, following the release of 'Count To Ten' and 'Watermelon Pink'. The song is a personal one for Leeroy, as he wrote it about his sobriety and the ongoing journey of recovery.

"This is one of the main anchors of this record to me," says Leeroy. "It’s a recovery song based on a period of time that I would awake suddenly around 3:38 exactly every other morning. I didn’t mind it too much, but it gets hard when there are kids to get off to school every morning. I would google what it means to wake up at 3:38 every morning and the internet would spew off something about that being the devil's hour or something foolish. The same thing would come up about 2:30 and 4:35 am, etc. My mind would be very active at this time, hence the speaking in tongues line. The song is a reminder to myself to find the humanity in my interactions. To meet my fears with more love. It’s a reminder that my disease is always there doing push ups, waiting for me to slip up, and that I have to work very hard to transcend that world that lives inside of me."

Leeroy Stagger's new album 3 AM Revelations is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. Look for Leeroy on the road this month starting in Red Deer, AB on February 14th. More tour dates in Ontario and Quebec will be announced soon. For more information, please visit leeroystagger.com.

PRAISE FOR 3AM REVELATIONS:

"For long-time fans of Leeroy Stagger, 3 AM Revelations will feel like catching up with an old friend. For newcomers, it’s an excellent introduction to an artist who’s been quietly but consistently producing some of Canada’s finest alt-country for the better part of two decades." - B-Side Guys

"3 AM Revelations makes grand statements about life, agony, loss, and redemption. Stagger weaves all these qualities together into a tortured tapestry. To say it arrives as one of the year’s best albums is an understatement. You just have to experience it for yourself." - B-Sides & Badlands

"Leeroy Stagger’s new album is a triumph. It sticks to familiar country rock themes while elevating them with a personal touch and plenty of instrumental variation. There are moments of swagger tempered by moments of self-doubt that seem to reflect the whole range of human experience." - York Calling

BC Folk Group The Southern Residents Share New Single DEVYN GALE

1st SINGLE FROM DEBUT ALBUM
FOLK SIGNALS OUT ON FEBRUARY 28th

STREAM/SHARE
HERE

BC folk group The Southern Residents share their new bluegrass-tinged single 'Devyn Gale' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

'Devyn Gale' is the lead single from The Southern Resident's debut album Folk Signals, set for release on February 28th. The album was born from the collaboration of Tom Taylor and Adrian Dolan, two seasoned figures in the Canadian music scene. When Tom set out to record his original folk-inspired songs, he needed musicians who could bring his vision to life. Adrian, a multi-instrumentalist and experienced producer, was the ideal partner. Together, they assembled a group of Canada’s finest musicians, each contributing their unique sound to the project.

The first single 'Devyn Gale' addresses the risk that comes with the increasing frequency of wildfires in BC due to climate change.

"'Devyn Gale' is about a Wildland Firefighter who died fighting a fire outside Revelstoke in July 2023," says Tom Taylor. "I was heartbroken after reading the story on CBC and thought Devyn needed a folk song to celebrate her, and to mark the sacrifice that she, and other brave men and women have made to protect Canadian communities in what is an increasingly dangerous environment for forest fires."

'Devyn Gale' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide.
