Victoria, BC-based alternative rock band Door d’Or share their compelling new single “What You Want,” available now on all digital streaming platforms. The track marks the second release from their debut album, The Exquisite Dream, which is set to arrive on May 1, 2026.
Blending ‘90s-inspired alternative rock with flashes of psychedelic prog and post-punk drive, “What You Want” unfolds with a restless, evolving energy. The song moves between hypnotic grooves and surging guitar work, anchored by a rhythm section that pushes the track forward while leaving space for its more expansive, exploratory edges.
Originally written in the band’s early days together, the track has since taken on new weight. What began as “Song 3” transformed through collaboration, with drummer Darin Steinkey shaping the chorus’s rhythmic backbone and lyrical core. Newly written verses reflect the tension of today’s global climate, while an extended outro – sparked by one of Mike Ison’s fluid basslines – leans further into the band’s post-punk influences.
With its philosophical undercurrent and timely perspective, “What You Want” resonates as both a personal and collective call to examine the forces shaping modern life. The track captures a band engaging directly with the present moment while searching for a more thoughtful path forward.
“This song invites us to question what kind of world we want in the future,” says vocalist and guitarist Mat Geddes. “What kind of human do we want to be? What would you want if you could get what you want? We adamantly oppose violence in all its forms, and this song asks humanity to break the cycles of brutality somehow. By beginning with ourselves, we can overcome the lower emotions of revenge, anger, and hatred. We advocate for evolution, not revolution, to realize a future with no violence.”
“What You Want” offers another glimpse into The Exquisite Dream, recorded in fall 2025 with Juno Award-winning producer Colin Stewart. The album channels Door d’Or’s improvisational roots into a focused studio setting, balancing atmosphere, tension, and melody to create a listening experience that feels both immediate and immersive.
Formed by Mike Ison, Mat Geddes, and Darin Steinkey, Door d'Or reconnected after years apart, rediscovering their creative chemistry in a jam space marked by a symbolic golden door. That space became a catalyst for a renewed artistic vision grounded in connection, exploration, and forward momentum. Joined by a dynamic extended lineup, the band has since developed a sound that merges textural depth with emotional clarity.
