Victoria, BC-based alternative indie rock band Blush. share In the Grey, a new EP arriving today alongside the release of its feature single, “Nice.” As the band’s first studio-recorded EP, following earlier live-off-the-floor releases, the project captures a pivotal stretch shaped by transition, reflection, and creative momentum.
Recorded over five days at The Hive on Vancouver Island with JUNO Award-winning producer Colin Stewart (Black Mountain, Destroyer), In the Grey finds Blush. leaning into contrast. Across the EP, the band moves between hazy, atmospheric restraint and heavier, guitar-driven moments, building a sound that feels both expansive and tightly wound. Inspired by a blend of shoegaze, ’90s rock, and folk, Blush. have carved out a distinct voice rooted in crunchy textures, haunting electronics, and immersive, melody-driven songwriting – an approach that continues to evolve on this latest release.
“The In the Grey EP is like a timestamp from a moment in our lives, built in between periods of growth, change, and stagnation,” says lead vocalist and guitarist Anton Wilson. “It’s where we once were, forever trapped in a record, and represents a greater conversation, which is our friendship. I wonder if the meaning of these songs will change and grow with us.”
Anchoring the release is “Nice,” the EP’s third single following “Seasons” and “Wrong Answers Only.”Where earlier tracks explored dreamy textures and fuzzed-out momentum, “Nice” pushes further into shadowy territory. The song unfolds with a darker, more brooding energy, giving space for each element to hit with weight and intention.
“This track is important because it really rounds out the tone of our EP,” says drummer Eric Josephs. “‘Nice’ is an exploration of contradictions. It leans into a moodiness that allows each instrument to open its jaw and clamp down on a heavy song.”
With In the Grey, Blush. sharpen their identity while leaving room for ambiguity, sitting comfortably between opposing states, both sonically and emotionally, capturing the band at both their loudest and most restrained.
