Winnipeg Musician Romi Mayes Shares New Album SMALL VICTORIES

WATCH/SHARE VIDEO
FOR 2nd SINGLE
'CAN'T STOP ME NOW'
HERE

nipeg blues-roots musician Romi Mayes shares her new album Small Victories out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

To celebrate the launch of her first album in 9 years, Romi is also releasing the video for her 2nd single 'Can't Stop Me Now.' The straight ahead roots blues rocker is a redemption anthem for Romi, and that narrative is mirrored in the video.

"'Can't Stop Me Now' depicts a dead beat dad letting down his kid," says Romi. “Though the song tells my personal story, the story told in the video is more of a cinematic and artistic way of expressing that no one can bring you down. And how it’s in their face when you can overcome adversity in life and come out on top with your chin held high. That our big self can be proud of the small self we carry through and rise above it.”

Romi's long awaited 7th album Small Victories, is a collection of songs written over 9 years during her hiatus from releasing music. Produced by Romi herself, Small Victories was inspired by her family and relates to how everything positive, even small, should be considered a win.

Says Romi "My daughter and her partner have a 5-year-old son that had biliary atresia and had to have a liver transplant when he was 2. When we were in the hospital in Toronto and he was recovering from the surgery my daughter said that every time a tube is removed or a bit of positive news comes in we have to hang on to those small victories. I wrote the title track that evening."

Romi Mayes is one of the hardest working independent musicians touring the globe today. She's become a household name in the international music scene and relentlessly continues to support artists in the Canadian music industry through the path she has paved with her company, Curbside Concerts. Over the years, Mayes has garnered three Western Canadian Music Awards (WCMAs) for Songwriter of the Year, two WCMAs for Album of The Year and Blues Artist of The Year, and a Juno Award nomination for Album of the Year.

Small Victories is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. Look for Romi Mayes on tour across Canada, starting on July 17th in Regina, SK. For more information, please visit romimayes.ca.

Native American/Canadian Musician Keanu Ienco Shares New Single PLAYFUL LOVE

STREAM/SHARE HERE

Keanu Ienco · Playful Love

Native American/Canadian musician Keanu Ienco shares his new single 'Playful Love' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

‘Playful Love' follows the release of Keanu's acclaimed 2022 debut album, Celestial Desire. The instrumental guitar piece is a moving tribute he wrote in remembrance of the family members he's lost over the past couple of years.

"The title refers to the platonic love one feels with family or friends," says Keanu. "The tune explores how it feels when that love is gone. While the melodies and feel of the tune take on a somber and melancholy nature at first, the piece climaxes with loud and hopeful sounds to remind the listener that those we love are never truly gone. I have recently had to say goodbye to my grandmother, brother and dog, so 'Playful Love' is a piece for them."

With the unique ability to translate stories and Native American culture into dynamic guitar driven soundscapes, Keanu is an Indigenous jazz/rock artist unlike any other on the scene. During his childhood, Keanu discovered his passion for music when his mother gifted him his first guitar for his eighth birthday. At thirteen he started playing professionally and by the age of sixteen had already performed live with numerous groups and received radio airplay of his own originals.

Following the completion of a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Studies at Vancouver Island University, Keanu has naturally grown his career and has shared the stage with industry professionals such as Steve Vai, Delfeayo Marsalis and Rufus Reid. 2020 saw the birth of Keanu's original instrumental project under his own name. Drawing from his authentic lived experiences as a Native American, Keanu’s music transports listeners on an emotional journey that honours his heritage while still being able to pull inspiration from his instrumental heroes such as Steve Vai, Pat Metheny and Plini.

The release of his debut album Celestial Desire in 2022 garnered critical acclaim and resulted in a nomination for “Instrumental Artist of the Year” at the 2022 Western Canadian Music Awards. Keanu is currently based in both British Columbia, Canada and the Southern United Kingdom.

'Playful Love' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more info, please visit keanuienco.com.

Vancouver Musician Etienne Siew Shares New Album CHASING DREAMS

STREAM/SHARE 3rd SINGLE
'STARLIGHT GIRL'
HERE

Etienne Siew · Starlight Girl

Vancouver folk-rock musician Etienne Siew is pleased to share his debut album Chasing Dreams out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen to the full album here.

Etienne is also showcasing 'Starlight Girl' as the 3rd feature single from the album, a track that leans heavily into 70s AM radio influences, resulting in a laid-back love song that feels straight off the Almost Famous soundtrack.

"This is a rocking tune for all the love birds and hopeful romantics out there," says Etienne. "I believe the right person comes into your life when they are meant to, they are just walking through the clouds somewhere in the world, slowly making their way to you. This was my call to the universe, to keep that person safe until your paths crossed."

Etienne's winding path from kinesiologist/coach to singer-songwriter is reflected in his debut album Chasing Dreams. In this project, Etienne aims to share his reflections as an independent artist and explores the themes of healing, empathy, resilience and social and environmental justice, which were amplified during the wake of the pandemic.

Says Etienne: "Chasing Dreams draws attention to and celebrates our connection with our environment and with each other, despite our differences, inspiring audiences to consider their own experiences in these themes. The Album represents the many universal lessons I have transformed into songs from spending time in nature, working with people from all walks of life and pursuing the exciting and challenging path of an independent artist. This project also represents the continued mindfulness and growth I continue to keep at the forefront of my mind, as I develop into the artist I want to be."

Chasing Dreams is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit etiennesiew.com.

Edmonton Folk-Roots Musician Christin Hyshka Releases New Album RESCUE

STREAM/SHARE 3rd SINGLE
'THE RIVER'
HERE

Christin Hyshka · The River

Edmonton folk-roots musician Christin Hyshka shares his new album Rescue out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

To celebrate the launch of the album, Christin is also releasing ‘The River,’ the 3rd single from the LP. The rousing track tells a tale of redemption and loss that leaves the listener contemplating both.

“I read this tragic story sometime ago about a young girl living on the street, abusing drugs, no family and at some low point, she crosses a bridge over a river and thinks of jumping,” says Christin. “Thankfully, shortly after, some good people took her in and suddenly life had meaning again. The river in my song is a metaphor. On one hand, her old life was washed clean in the water, but the river had the potential to take that life as well. I tried to leave the interpretation of either scenario in this song open to the listener.”

Christin grew up in rural Manitoba listening to Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Steve Earle and was greatly influenced by the imagery that these artists depict through their songwriting. He now lives in Edmonton, Alberta, where he recorded his debut album, The First Word, in 2021 and his sophomore album Rescue, which has just been released. The nine songs on the new album all tell their own unique story of faith, joy, forgiveness, re-birth, regret, shame, desire, longing and creation. All facets of the human condition. Themes that both weigh us down and raise us up. It’s as emotional as it is powerful, filled with messages for the soul and the heart.

Rescue is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit christinhyshkamusic.com.

Toronto Musician Lisa Humber Shares New Single + Video DANCE WITHIN

WATCH/SHARE VIDEO HERE

Toronto indie pop musician Lisa Humber shares her dreamy, introspective single/video ‘Dance Within’ out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

The second release in Lisa’s quadriptych of new music for 2024, ‘Dance Within’ was created with producer/guitarist Justin Abedin. Since their collaboration began in fall 2020, Justin has been key to Lisa’s musical journey, contributing to her debut EP The Space Between and recent single ‘The Devil’s Advocate’. On ‘Dance Within,’ Lisa explores the idea of finding joy as an act of resistance in a world influenced by social media’s curated illusions.

“The song delves into the struggle between truth and fallacy, the pursuit of genuine answers, and the freedom of letting go,” says Lisa. “Amid the constant stream of thoughts, it emphasizes embracing positivity with ‘Feel good about feeling good’ and examines the true nature of happiness with ‘Joy is often misunderstood.’ ‘Dance Within’ encourages listeners to seek authentic joy and resist the pressures of comparison and perfection.”

For the ‘Dance Within’ music video, Lisa teamed up with long-time collaborator Stephen O’Connell, a director, choreographer, and dancer. Stephen, a fan of Lisa’s work with Justin, drew personal inspiration for the project. The video features dancer Sam Lore, whom Stephen met a decade ago at Rutgers University. They filmed at Highbridge in The Bronx, near the area where Stephen’s parents grew up and where he was born, and they shot the indoor scenes in his aunt Hilda’s Soho loft.

Says Lisa: “Stephen credits Sam for the choreography, which brings the video to life. While Stephen handled the drone shots, Sam’s movements perfectly captured the song’s essence. ‘Dance Within’ is a celebration of collaboration, personal history, and artistic expression, and I can’t wait for you to experience it.”

‘Dance Within’ is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit lisahumber.com.
