BC Jazz-Pop Musician Kate Trajan Shares New Single AMAZON'S DILEMMA

2nd SINGLE FROM NEW ALBUM
ANCIENT FIRES OUT ON SEPTEMBER 20th

STREAM/SHARE HERE

Kate Trajan · Amazon's Dilemma

BC jazz-pop musician Kate Trajan shares her new single 'Amazon's Dilemma' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

The 2nd single from her new album Ancient Fires (out on September 20th via Pastiche Records), 'Amazon's Dilemma' is an exploratory genre-bending track about the psychology of power.

"On the surface, this is just another song about Amazon warrior women wondering whether they should be treating their male sex slaves any better," says Kate. "But I wrote it as an exploration of how we treat each other when we become the ones with power. If we have been harmed by others, does that make us more or less likely to treat people with kindness and compassion when we are in control? This Amazon is feeling conflicted."

Currently living on Salt Spring Island, BC, Kate is classically trained in piano and voice, and her songwriting draws on two decades of experience performing with jazz, folk, and indie groups across Canada and in the UK and the Netherlands. Kate released her debut EP Yesterday Left Without Her Suitcase, featuring four original songs, in June 2022. Her first full-length album of original music, Ancient Fires, will be released this September.

Says Kate: "This album is a collection of songs that were mostly written in earlier chapters of my life, or written looking back on those earlier chapters. The title, Ancient Fires, refers to the stars in the sky - just like old flames or life-changing events that burned bright and were all-consuming when they were happening, now from a distance, while they are still there, burning away, I only see them when I step outside on a clear night and look up."

'Amazon's Dilemma' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit katetrajan.com.

Alberta Musician Ryland Moranz Shares New Single + Video WHEN I'M GONE

1ST SINGLE FROM NEW
ALBUM BETTER/WORSE

WATCH/SHARE VIDEO
HERE

Alberta-based singer-songwriter Ryland Moranz shares his new single/video 'When I'm Gone' out now on all digital streaming platforms via Tonic Records. Listen here.

'When I'm Gone' is the lead single from Ryland's new album Better/Worse, set for release later this year. Recorded by John Raham at Barnhouse Studios in Qualicum, BC, and produced by Leeroy Stagger, the easygoing folk-country track tackles dark subject matter with a positive attitude, encouraging us to live in the moment.

"'When I’m Gone' is my existential dread song, although it’s more optimistic than that may sound," says Ryland. "When I wrote it I was thinking a lot about the world and our place in it and it occurred to me that most folks ride a binary opinion that’s either fate based or fate averse. But if you look out into nature, you see nothing is really like that. I wanted to write something that embraced the entropy of the human condition; something that showcased how, even if you’re not meant to be anywhere, where you are is where you’re meant to be, even if it’s just for a moment. Because nothing lasts forever, but nothing is truly forgotten, either."

The video for 'When I'm Gone' is a composite of 35mm projections from the silent film era using films that are in the public domain. The main films used are: Nosferatu, The Cabinet of DR Caligari, The Pawn Shop, Journey to the Moon, and Fantasmagorie.

Says Ryland: "The purpose of using these films was to support the song's theme by creating a living and breathing estuary of real life and recorded memory. To showcase how all we have is the moment, but the moment is never just the now. It’s everything we’ve experienced up until now."

A folk/bluegrass multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter from Lethbridge, Alberta, Ryland’s highly anticipated forthcoming album, Better/Worse, will be released through Tonic Records later this year. The album takes an earnest snapshot of a world emerging from the brink, or rather, from one brink to another. A spiritual successor to Ryland’s acclaimed 2021 offering XO, 1945, Better/Worse turns the focus from where we have been to where we may be going.

'When I'm Gone' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit: rylandmoranz.com.

Yukon Indie-Folk Band The August Arrival Share New Single CAMPED OUT

LEAD SINGLE FROM NEW ALBUM
HILLSIDES OUT ON OCTOBER 11th

STREAM/SHARE HERE

the august arrival · Camped Out

Yukon indie-folk band The August Arrival share their melodic and emotionally charged new single 'Camped Out' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

Led by Yukon songwriter and vocalist Sara MacDonald, The August Arrival is a solo project supported by friends, incorporating live and recording contributions from an array of musicians who slide in and out of the lineup. Sara was working on her Masters while working on their forthcoming new album Hillsides (out on October 11th), so many of her thoughts and readings at the time were psychology-based, which is apparent on lead single 'Camped Out.'

"The song 'Camped Out' was inspired by a podcast about someone using neurotherapy to get over an ex-partner," says Sara. "This resonated with me, capturing how people, ideas, and thoughts can consume us. Writing this song allowed me to explore my tendency to overthink and obsess while acknowledging the strange comfort that comes from hiding within those fixations."

Described as “well composed, intimate, even mystical folk rock,” The August Arrival unearths something profound within the listener. It conjures up a personalized sentiment that keeps you returning for more. Their upcoming album release Hillsides will resonate deeply with fans of intimate indie folk-rock, drawing inspiration from Postdata, Blind Pilot, and Manchester Orchestra.

'Camped Out' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit theaugustarrival.com.

Yellowknife Musician Carmen Braden Shares New Single + Video VOICE IN THE DARK

LEAD SINGLE FROM NEW ALBUM
A HARD LIGHT OUT ON DEC 5th

WATCH/SHARE VIDEO HERE

Award-winning singer-songwriter and contemporary composer Carmen Braden shares her new single and video ‘Voice in the Dark’ out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

‘Voice in the Dark’ is the lead single from the Yellowknife artist’s new album A Hard Light, set for release on December 5th and produced by Carmen’s long-time producer Mark Adam (Music In the Woods, Nova Scotia). Carmen wrote the track about the importance of community and connection in the Northwest Territories of Canada.

"One day there was a major system failure where my friend worked as a radio host," says Carmen. "They knew no one could hear them, but they had to keep talking in case the signal managed to get back on air. The song is about holding onto thin threads of hope, about connection between people over big spaces and through dark times. It’s also an homage to radio and the power it still has to connect - something that’s still a strong part of culture and community in Canada’s north."

A multi-talented artist recognized as an “acoustic ambassador of the Canadian Subarctic” (Musicworks Magazine), Carmen has played intimate theatres and main stage folk festivals, smoothly jumping between genres of songwriting and composing. Her contemporary classical compositions are nationally recognized, with commissions and performances by world class ensembles and performers, including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, James Ehnes, and the Canadian Chamber Choir.

She’s released three studio albums: Seed Songs (2021), Songs of the Invisible Summer Stars (2019), and Ravens (2017), and earned national recognition by winning the Western Canadian Music Award for Classical Composer of the Year in both 2020 and 2019. Additional nominations include Classical Album of the Year 2020 at the East Coast Music Awards, Classical Artist of the Year (2019 WCMAs), and Classical Composition of the Year (2017 WCMAs).

'Voice in the Dark' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit carmenbraden.com.

BC Musician Kate Trajan Shares New Single NO ONE TO DREAM ABOUT

LEAD SINGLE FROM NEW ALBUM
ANCIENT FIRES OUT ON SEPT 20th

STREAM/SHARE HERE

Kate Trajan · No One To Dream About

BC singer-songwriter Kate Trajan shares her new single 'No One To Dream About' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

'No One To Dream About' is the lead single from her new album Ancient Fires, set for release on September 20th via Pastiche Records. Kate wrote the breezy jazz-pop track while experiencing the grief that comes with a break-up.

"This song is an ode to desire, and a lament of its absence," says Kate. "I wrote this while heartsick over the ending of a relationship and longing for the next object of affection to appear. No one I met could pique my interest in those sad months, hence 'no one to dream about.' I wanted the song to have a playful feel though, and the band really helped me capture that with a Bossa-esque rhythm that makes me want to dance around my kitchen with this on repeat."

'No One To Dream About' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit katetrajan.com.
