For Immediate Release:
April 9th, 2013
(Toronto, ON) - Toronto troubadour Donovan Woods released his third album Don't Get Too Grand on March 26th (on Aporia Records) and he's finally getting around to having the official album release party on Wednesday, April 24th at The Horseshoe Tavern. To mark the occasion, Donovan Woods is releasing the video for the Don't Get Too Grand track "The Coldest State". The video features Donovan Woods and a couple of friends and was choreographed by Patricia Allison and directed by Ryan Nolan.
"The Coldest State is my run at a joyous song about love rediscovered," Woods explains. "I thought a joyous dance would help emphasize the song's purpose. Also, I've always wanted to be involved in a choreographed dance routine and this seemed like a good opportunity to do that and have someone else pay for it. My friends Matt Huether (on my right) and Matt Lancaster (on my left) volunteered their time. If you can even comprehend it, none of us have had formal dance training, but Matt (on my left) clearly missed his true calling. His movements are fluid, sexy and vital. I cannot take my eyes from him while I watch. I am under his spell."
Don't Get Too Grand has received much critical acclaim since it was released on March 26th. Publications such as NOW, The Grid and the Toronto Star have given the album glowing reviews with notable music blogs such as HeroHill and Slowcoustic also heaping on the praise. To make the night extra special, Donovan Woods will be performing with a full band - a very rare occurrence - at the album release party on April 24th. Gavin Slate and Wunderstrands will be opening up the show. Doors open at The Horseshoe at 8:30 PM and tickets are $10 in advance at www.aporiadirect.com and $15 at the door.

"These are just smashing songs, period — “Put On, Cologne” and “Petrolia” are jaw-dropping in their plain-spoken beauty — and Woods inhabits the rootless, put-upon characters in his sad-sack vignettes with believable ache." - Toronto Star
"This is emotional music that doesn’t sound fragile or overwrought, a difficult balancing act that Woods pulls off effortlessly." - NOW Magazine
