Vancouver Indie Electronic Duo Onelight To Release Their Debut Album on November 26th

Album Release Party On November 23rd At The Media Club

For Immediate Release:
November 1st, 2013

(Vancouver, BC) - Vancouver-based electronic duo Onelight will be independently releasing their self-titled debut album on Tuesday, November 26th and will celebrate with an Album Release Party at the Media Club (695 Cambie St.) on Saturday, November 23rd. Also on the bill for the Release Party are: Mark Hjorthy (DJ Set) and Vebrilli Sound.

Onelight is singer Amy Usher and drummer/producer Hamish Thomson. Originally from Toronto, Amy has lived a life traveling the world, chronicling her journey through poetry and song. Her voice and lyrics are grounded in imagery, emotion and spirit. Hamish is a west coast daydreamer, multi-instrumentalist and producer who created 3 albums as The Hermit for Nettwerk Records. During this time, he collected awards for “Favourite Electronica Artist” at CMW and a #1 chart placing on Bravo TV’s Countdown. Hamish has collaborated with a diverse pool of musicians and producers including Martina Sorbara (Dragonette), Frazey Ford (Be Good Tanyas), and CR Avery.

Onelight was born almost by surprise when Hamish and Amy met up one rainy Vancouver night to share music and explore their creativity. There was an instant connection as the two artists spent the evening talking about what it means to live a musical life. That night a seed was planted which would grow to become Onelight. With a love of folk, indie rock and electronica, Onelight's music can be described as having “one foot in the street and one foot in the milky way" with comparisons to acts such as Morcheeba and Beth Orton.

Listen to 'Love and Light' by Onelight

The duo's self-titled debut album is emotionally rich with ethereal vocals, harmonies, tripped out textures and layered percussive beats. The album was recorded and produced by Onelight in their studio hideouts The Hovel and The SoundSpace and the duo enlisted the talented Howard Redekopp (Tegan and Sara, Mother Mother) to mix 10 of the album tracks with Hamish rounding out the mixing duties.

Since they've completed their debut album, Onelight has moved from the studio to the stage with performances in Vancouver, New York and a tour of India that culminated in an international festival in the Rajasthan desert. Their live stage show features spirited vocals, vintage instruments and live electronics, creating a show that is inspired and connected.

Don't miss out on your chance to see Onelight perform live at their Album Release Party on Saturday, November 23rd at The Media Club. For more information see below. Onelight's debut album will be available on iTunes & all other digital retailers on Tuesday, November 26th. For more information, please visit: www.weareonelight.com.

Newfoundland Electro-Rockers Repartee Hit The Road For Cross-Canada Tour!

For Immediate Release:

(Toronto, ON) - Hailing from St. John's, NFLD, electro-pop/rock band Repartee is embarking on their very first Cross-Canada Tour! With an electric live show, hooky melodies and poignant, honest lyrics, Repartee is guaranteed to get people dancing nationwide as they tour in support of their latest EP 'Hello Hello Hello'. For a full listing of tour dates, see below.

Click Here To Listen To The Repartee Track 'Hello Hello Hello'

Before she started Repartee, lead singer Meg Warren was a frustrated opera singer. She loved music, but hated the formality. So, of course, she started a synth-pop band. Makes sense, right? Repartee played their first gig in St. John's in 2009 and while a lot has changed since then, one thing remains the same - Repartee want to make you dance.

Repartee's career has been steadily growing over the past 4 years with the addition of members Robbie Brett (The Pre-Raphaelites, Hear/Say), Nick Coultas-Clarke and Josh Banfield (Catcher). Named the Newfoundland Herald’s prestigious ‘Band To Watch’ for 2011, Repartee has worked hard to live up to the name. Their self-titled debut album was released to critical acclaim in 2011, and was short-listed at the 2011 Atlantis Music Prize for the best album released in Newfoundland that year.

Repartee released their 'Hello Hello Hello' EP in late 2012 & have spent the last year feverishly and passionately touring. Aiming to expand their fan-base outside of Newfoundland, they've showcased at the Halifax Pop Explosion, the East Coast Music Awards and Canadian Music Week. They've shared the stage with Arkells, Mother Mother, Hey Rosetta, USS, Jenn Grant and many more. And they've won plenty of accolades too! In 2012, they won 5 MusicNL Awards - FACTOR Album of the Year, Group of the Year, Rising Star, Fan Choice Entertainer of the Year and Pop/Rock Artist of the Year. Repartee were also nominated for Rising Star Recording of the Year at the 2013 East Coast Music Awards where they performed at the ECMA Gala along with Classified, Ashley MacIsaac and Rich Aucoin.

Repartee is a band that is about to explode, so don't miss your chance to see them live on their upcoming Canadian Tour! For the most up-to-date tour listings, please visit: reparteemusic.ca

Bed Of Stars Release Video For 'Nothing Left To Lose'

For Immediate Release:

CLICK HERE TO WATCH VIDEO FOR 'NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE'

(Toronto, ON) - 23 year-old Abbotsford, BC musician Evan Konrad, aka Bed of Stars, released his debut EP 'I Fell In Love In The City' through Daniel Victor's (Neverending White Lights) Last Light Records label (formerly Ocean Records) on June 11th and he's been riding high ever since! The EP's first single 'Nothing Left To Lose' gained plenty of traction at radio this summer and eventually became the #1 most added song at Alternative Radio in Canada (week ending 8/13/13). And with the success of the song at radio, comes the premiere of the video for 'Nothing Left To Lose' featuring Jodelle Furland from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. The video was directed by award-winning film maker Cazhhmere (Backstreet Boys, Classified, Three Six Mafia). To celebrate the release of the video, Bed of Stars will be playing 4 upcoming shows in Ontario this month starting in Windsor at FM Lounge on October 12th.

After spending his formative years absorbed in assembling homemade bedroom recordings, Evan Konrad drew the attention of Juno-nominated producer Daniel Victor, the critically acclaimed entity behind the chart topping collaborative project known as Neverending White Lights. Victor was vastly intrigued by Konrad's vocal abilities, melodic songwriting, and ambitious musical perspective and immediately signed Bed of Stars to his Ocean Records imprint. This magical partnership soon flourished and resulted in Victor producing Bed of Stars debut release and even included a Neverending White Lights song featuring Bed of Stars - Falling Apart.

Evan Konrad's many sides and shapes are only early signs of what Bed of Stars will have to offer during what will likely be a very long and fruitful career. As Victor puts it: “He's what the music world has been missing for a long time – true talent and ability that will breed longevity as an artist. This is something we've grown desperate for.”

Konrad started writing the songs for the Bed of Stars EP 'I Fell In Love In The City' back in 2010 and the initial idea for the record was to make 6 or 7 short stories about love, picturing them as movies. "The Vancouver Olympics were happening at the time," said Konrad. "And there was something magical about the city at that time and I found it really inspiring. The songs come from the idea of falling in love or falling out of love with a friend, a place or a significant other."

Taking the intelligent melodies of Radiohead, effortless breeze of Travis, and a vocal range somewhere between Freddie Mercury and Sigur Ros,  Bed of Stars has devoted himself entirely to the art of sensationalizing the emotive qualities of music. Evan Konrad channels a young Rufus Wainwright on tracks like 'The Spell', telling a story that resonates with symbolism and honesty. On the brilliant and bright 'Nothing Left To Lose' he jumps into Phoenix and Strokes territory, full of energy and excitement. The precision of the rhythmic gem 'Wishbone' calls to mind the epic rock of Muse and matches their soaring lead singer in full throat range, a feat that few are able to accomplish. 'I'll Cross Oceans' and 'Ships In Their Bottles' are touching fairytales of beauty that are both majestical and inspirational. The arrival of Bed of Stars marks the return of 'true talent' in music - a prodigy that will no doubt breed longevity as an artist.

Join Bed of Stars in celebrating the release of the 'Nothing Left To Lose' video with 4 upcoming shows in Ontario this month, including an Industry-Only Showcase at The Rivoli on Tuesday, October 22nd (full tour date listings below). And look for the EP available for purchase online at iTunes & other fine digital retailers. Steve Brockley Band Release 'LeBoeuf' On Vinyl & Head Out On Cross-Canada Tour!

For Immediate Release:
October 2, 2013

Vancouver, BC - 2013 has been a busy one for the Steve Brockley Band! After releasing their 2nd album LeBoeuf on April 16th, the BC-based folk-country trio hit the road for 3 separate Cross-Canada tours, showcased at NXNE in Toronto and played at several summer festivals. And since the year isn't over yet, the band is planning to go out in style with one more Canadian Tour starting on October 17th in Winnipeg. The upcoming tour is to celebrate the release of LeBoeuf on vinyl.

Since it's release in April, there's been plenty of critical buzz surrounding LeBoeuf with Saskatoon's Planet S Magazine saying, "LeBoeuf sees Brockley and his bandmates displaying a more mature sound that strikes a balance between swagger and narrative." And according to the Vancouver Music Review, "[Steve Brockley Band] reminds me of the charmingly clever lyrics of Jeremy Fisher but with a more Southern drawl. If you’re into Canadiana country folk, this is the band for you....." And with the release of LeBoeuf on vinyl, fans may even discover an extra layer to the album that wasn't there before.

"LeBoeuf was recorded at a higher quality than what you can put on a CD or mp3," explains Brockley. "So, on vinyl there's just simply more of it there - it sounds like the way it was recorded."

The Steve Brockley Band can't easily be defined by one sound or musical genre. Though it is apparent that the band is part of the tradition of folk music, they’re able to take the style in new directions without making the audience feel uprooted. The band draws varied comparisons in their music ranging from: J.J. Cale, Townes Van Zandt, Hank Williams, John Prine, Bob Dylan and The Band.  Getting to the heart of a song is their main goal. Not just digging into the notes, but nailing those spaces in between the notes. When you’ve got a good song, you want to let it breathe. A percussive double bass swagger, drum grooves from the gut, and a rolling finger picked guitar bring their brand of folk music to life. There’s no rush to the end of a song – if it's right, it happens. The main thing is not to hurry, so nothing good gets away. And that's what the Steve Brockley Band does best.

Jasper Sloan Yip Releases Video For 'Foxtrot'

For Immediate Release:
September 23, 2013

CLICK HERE TO WATCH VIDEO FOR 'FOXTROT'

Vancouver, BC - Jasper Sloan Yip independently released his 2nd album 'Foxtrot' on July 16th to much critical acclaim and then spent the summer on the road touring across Canada in support of the album. After wrapping up his tour with a successful homecoming show at St. James Hall last Thursday (with Adrian Glynn), Jasper releases the incredible video for the title track on the new album, 'Foxtrot'. The video is directed by Lloyd Lee Choi of the Herd and was made possible through funding from Public Records and Telus.

Jasper Sloan Yip’s start was humble. A self-taught musician, he gave his first performance in 2007 on a stage he built in his own back yard. In 2010, he released his restless debut, 'Every Day and All at Once'. Its songs charted on CBC Radio 3, appeared on network television, and landed Jasper showcases at festivals all over Canada, including Rifflandia, Canadian Music Week and Sled Island. Jasper was also a Top 20 Finalist in The Peak Performance Project in 2011.

Now, at the helm of an experimental folk-rock sextet, the earnest naïveté that characterized Jasper Sloan Yip with 'Every Day and All at Once' is gone, replaced with pensive introspection and expansive instrumentation. The result is a mosaic: nine very different songs that, taken together, create a unified narrative about the pains - and joys - of love and art, making 'Foxtrot' a very personal record.

Jasper Sloan Yip's next show will be at St. James Hall in Vancouver on Sunday, October 13th (with Greg Drummond). For more information, please visit: jaspersloanyip.com

"Fronting a large, agile lineup fleshed out with Wurlitzer, cello and violin, Yip has made the kind of smart, catchy album that could be a dark horse when year-end (and award nominations) roll around." - Toronto Star

"Yip veers wildly from minimalistic to psychedelic, from The Beatles-inspired pop-rock of the opening track to the quietly reflective title track. It’s an engaging listen and might find favour with fans of Feist." - Vancouver Province
