Jasper Sloan Yip To Release His 2nd Album Foxtrot on July 16th

For Immediate Release:
June 18, 2013

Vancouver, BC - Vancouver singer/songwriter Jasper Sloan Yip has spent the last five years cutting his teeth on stages all across Canada and with
the release of his 2nd album Foxtrot on July 16th, he’s set to start the cycle all over again! Jasper and his band will kick off their Summer Tour across
Canada with an album release show in Vancouver on Wednesday, July 17th at The Media Club (695 Cambie St.), with the remaining Canadian tour dates taking place in August.

Foxtrot isn't out until July 16th but the album is already garnering plenty of attention for Jasper Sloan Yip. The album’s track listing includes his song, “Show Your Teeth”, which won Shore 104.3 FM’s Best of B.C. contest for May 2013, landing the artist $10,000.00 in prize money. On top of that, Jasper was also recently featured in Pacific Rim Magazine. Things are definitely off to a good start!

Watch Jasper Sloan Yip Perform "Show Your Teeth"

Jasper Sloan Yip’s start was humble. A self-taught musician, he gave his first performance in 2007 on a stage he built in his own back yard. In 2010, he released his restless debut, Every Day and All at Once. Its songs charted on CBC Radio 3, appeared on network television, and landed Jasper showcases at festivals all over Canada, including Rifflandia, Canadian Music Week and Sled Island. Jasper was also a Top 20 Finalist in The Peak Performance Project in 2011.

Now, at the helm of an experimental folk-rock sextet, Jasper Sloan Yip is set to release his ambitious follow-up, Foxtrot. The earnest naïveté that characterized Every Day and All at Once is gone, replaced with pensive introspection and expansive instrumentation. The result is a mosaic: nine very different songs that, taken together, create a unified narrative about the pains - and joys - of love and art, making Foxtrot a very personal record.

“More than anything it's an account of the end of my relationship with Stephanie, our violinist,” explains Jasper. “This entire record takes place within the walls of our apartment, but it's bigger than that. I really tried to find the big picture from all of the small details of our life together. It also dives into my relationship with music. I tried to parallel the two relationships because they both demonstrated to me how difficult it is to love someone, or something. The opening lines of the record pretty much sum it up:

"You make it up to take apart, no matter what, sometimes you hate your art. You love her like you love your work: she makes you happy when she doesn't make you hurt.""

Foxtrot is set for release on July 16, 2013. Look for Jasper and his band on tour across Canada this August and don't miss out on the Album Release Show at The Media Club in Vancouver on July 17th. For more information and the most up-to-date tour listings, please visit: www.jaspersloanyip.com

Bed of Stars EP Release Party @ The Media Club on June 28th

For Immediate Release:
June 6th, 2013

(Vancouver, BC) - 23 year-old Abbotsford musician Evan Konrad, aka Bed of Stars, has been waiting a long time to release his debut EP 'I Fell In Love In The City' and the big day has finally arrived! Bed of Stars will be releasing his debut EP through Daniel Victor's (Neverending White Lights) Ocean Records label on June 11th and the EP Release Party will take place in Vancouver at The Media Club on Friday, June 28th.

After spending his formative years absorbed in assembling homemade bedroom recordings, Evan Konrad drew the attention of Juno-nominated producer Daniel Victor, the critically acclaimed entity behind the chart topping collaborative project known as Neverending White Lights. Victor was vastly intrigued by Konrad's vocal abilities, melodic songwriting, and ambitious musical perspective and immediately signed Bed of Stars to his Ocean Records imprint. This magical partnership soon flourished and resulted in Victor producing Bed of Stars debut release and even included a Neverending White Lights song featuring Bed of Stars - Falling Apart.

Evan Konrad's many sides and shapes are only early signs of what Bed of Stars will have to offer during what will likely be a very long and fruitful career. As Victor puts it: “He's what the music world has been missing for a long time – true talent and ability that will breed longevity as an artist. This is something we've grown desperate for.”

Konrad started writing the songs for the Bed of Stars EP 'I Fell In Love In The City' back in 2010 and the initial idea for the record was to make 6 or 7 short stories about love, picturing them as movies. "The Vancouver Olympics were happening at the time," said Konrad. "And there was something magical about the city at that time and I found it really inspiring. The songs come from the idea of falling in love or falling out of love with a friend, a place or a significant other."

Watch the trailer for Bed of Stars 'I Fell In Love In The City'

Taking the intelligent melodies of Radiohead, effortless breeze of Travis, and a vocal range somewhere between Freddie Mercury and Sigur Ros,  Bed of Stars has devoted himself entirely to the art of sensationalizing the emotive qualities of music. Evan Konrad channels a young Rufus Wainwright on tracks like The Spell, telling a story that resonates with symbolism and honesty. On the brilliant and bright Nothing Left To Lose he jumps into Phoenix and Strokes territory, full of energy and excitement. The precision of the rhythmic gem Wishbone calls to mind the epic rock of Muse and matches their soaring lead singer in full throat range, a feat that few are able to accomplish. I'll Cross Oceans and Ships In Their Bottles are touching fairytales of beauty that are both majestical and inspirational. The arrival of Bed of Stars marks the return of 'true talent' in music - a prodigy that will no doubt breed longevity as an artist.

Steve Brockley Band Play Showcase @ NXNE 2013

For Immediate Release:
May 30th, 2013

(Vancouver, BC) - BC-based folk-country trio the Steve Brockley Band just returned home from an extensive Canadian Tour that took them all the way to Montreal and back and now they're getting ready to head back out East, to Toronto, for a Showcase at NXNE on Thursday, June 13th at Magpie Taproom. The Steve Brockley Band were touring in support of their recently released (April 16th) 2nd album LeBoeuf.

The Steve Brockley Band released their self-titled debut album in 2010 to much critical acclaim and after spending the last couple of years touring across Canada playing club dates, house shows and festivals, the boys fired up their tour vehicle of choice, a wood-paneled station wagon named John Candy, to promote LeBoeuf. LeBoeuf was produced by John Raham (Be Good Tanyas, Frazey Ford, Po' Girl) with songs written by Steve Brockley and includes all of the signature staples of the Steve Brockley Band - storytelling, clever metaphors and great musicianship - but this one is a much more personal album for the band.

“When we recorded the first album, we were brand new and we just got in the studio and recorded and mixed the whole thing in three days – quick and dirty," says Brockley.  "On this one, after spending the last couple years on the road together, we felt we owed the new material the best possible opportunity to come alive. We took the time we needed to capture the songs without chasing them away.”

Watch Steve Brockley Band Perform LeBoeuf track "Letter" at The Dakota Tavern

The Steve Brockley Band can't easily be defined by one sound or musical genre. Though it is apparent that the band is part of the tradition of folk music, they’re able to take the style in new directions without making the audience feel uprooted. The band draws varied comparisons in their music ranging from: J.J. Cale, Townes Van Zandt, Hank Williams, John Prine, Bob Dylan and The Band.  Getting to the heart of a song is their main goal. Not just digging into the notes, but nailing those spaces in between the notes. When you’ve got a good song, you want to let it breathe. A percussive double bass swagger, drum grooves from the gut, and a rolling finger picked guitar bring their brand of folk music to life. There’s no rush to the end of a song – if it's right, it happens. The main thing is not to hurry, so nothing good gets away. And that's what the Steve Brockley Band does best.

Morgan Doctor Releases Her 3rd Album 'Major Over Minor' on May 7th

For Immediate Release:
April 18, 2013

(Toronto, ON) - Toronto-based musician/drummer Morgan Doctor will release her third solo album, Major Over Minor, through Aporia Records/Outside Distribution on May 7th, 2013.

Her first fully instrumental album, Major Over Minor came together after three years of soul searching that started when Doctor left a band (The Cliks) and a relationship. The ambient electronic album is about that time, full of contemplation and hopefulness. It's about the ending of a great love and the beginning of new relationships, new friends, new loves, a new home and even a new dog! Ultimately, Major Over Minor is all about change, moving forward and the journeys we take in life.

"Any journey is not about the places we go," Doctor explains. "It's the paths we take, the feelings we have and the people we meet along the way. The places we visit everyday tend to blur and become part of the background: unnoticed and unappreciated."

Morgan Doctor created all of the melodies for Major Over Minor on a LED light sound pad with patterns of light being repeated and triggering tones. "Phosphorescent" came out of working with that device and "The Seafarer" was based on a dream Morgan had one night of a young girl traveling across the ocean. The track "West Coast" is a slice of life tune that carries a sense of longing and freedom - a time you know won't last forever but you wish it could. The release of Major Over Minor is also accompanied by a roll out of some juicy remixes - the first one came out back in March courtesy of Eccodek, now there's a brand new one courtesy of Paradise Animals and there will be another one from Graham Wright (Tokyo Police Club) very soon. Tour dates in support of Major Over Minor will be coming in the Summer and Fall.

Download "Phosphorescent (Paradise Animals Remix)" here!

Morgan Doctor moved from her native Los Angeles to Toronto in 1999 and has since been a highly sought after session player as well as private drum teacher, having played over a thousand dates all over the US, Canada and Europe. She has played with such artists as: Andy Kim (30 million records sold), The Cliks (Warner/Tommyboy), Ron Sexsmith, Lights, Alex Lifeson and The Tea Party. Some of the artists Morgan has been billed alongside—on tour throughout the U.S. and Canada—include Cyndi Lauper, B-52’s, Tegan and Sara, The Cult, The New York Dolls, Indigo Girls, the Gossip, Dresden Dolls, Debbie Harry, The Stars, Feist and many more! She recently performed alongside comedienne Sandra Berhard at Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto as part of the Canadian International Comedy Festival and with Dearly Beloved at CMW 2013. Major Over Minor is her third release for Aporia Records - Is This Home? was released in 2006 and Other Life was released in 2009.

Look for Major Over Minor on all digital retailers on May 7th. For a full listing of Morgan Doctor's upcoming performances visit her website: www.morgandoctor.com
