Madeleine Roger Announces CDN Tour Dates in February + March

NEW LYRIC VIDEO OUT TODAY

After spending much of 2018 playing shows across Canada, Winnipeg singer-songwriter Madeleine Roger is getting ready to head back on the road for more Canadian dates, starting in Hamilton on February 9th. The upcoming tour also includes a show at the Folk Alliance International Conference in Montreal, as well as string of Homeroutes house concerts in the Yukon and the Northwest Territories in March. See below for full tour listings.

Madeleine Roger ended 2018 by taking part in VIA Rail's Artists On Board program, and it was while she was travelling on the train across Canada that she filmed the footage for her new 'This Way For Me' lyric video which is out today. 'This Way For Me' is from Madeleine's debut album Cottonwood (released in October 2018) and the lyrics are the perfect match for the stunning Canadian landscape as viewed through a train window.

"When I filmed this footage, the train was 5 hours late but it didn’t matter because the scenery was so stunning, and it meant we got extra daylight hours rolling through the Rockies," says Madeleine. "I wrote 'This Way For Me' from this very same train a couple of years ago, because I just fell in love with the view out the window and the slow rocking of travel by rail.”

Although Cottonwood is her debut album, Madeleine Roger is no stranger to the music business. In fact, she's nearly a veteran at age 27. A lifelong history of singing in choirs, living rooms, musicals, and around bonfires has informed her current comfort on the stage, and the countless hours hanging out in the control room of her dad's (producer/engineer Lloyd Peterson) recording studios provided a wealth of knowledge over the years. In 2016, Madeleine formed Roger Roger with her twin brother Lucas and released their debut album Fairweather locally and overseas which reached the No. 1 spot on the Canadian national folk/roots/blues charts, garnering acclaim for its exceptional songwriting.

Madeleine also received critical praise for her album Cottonwood upon its release late last year, including an 8/10 review from Exclaim Magazine. And the album's standout single '60 Years More', a powerful song about what it feels like to be a woman right now and how far we still have to go in the fight for gender equality, garnered plenty of buzz due to the subject matter and striking lyrics.

Cottonwood is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services. For more information and the most up to date tour listings, please visit: madeleineroger.com

Yukon Indie Rockers The Dark Fruits Announce Release Of Debut Album On March 1st

TDF_PR.jpg

First Single 'I've Got Time For You' Out Today!
WATCH/SHARE The Video
HERE

Yukon indie rockers The Dark Fruits are excited to announce the independent release of their debut album Authors of Affection on March 1st. The band's first single ‘I’ve Got Time For You’ is available today on all streaming services and digital retailers after it premiered yesterday on Live in Limbo.

'I’ve Got Time For You' is a fun, quirky gem of a pop song (think Weezer meets The Cars) and the video does its best to convey the upbeat vibe of the track with all all-star cast of characters from Whitehorse, including local journalist Tara McCarthy, reigning Sourdough Sam Daniel O’Shea and Gurdeep Pandher, Yukon’s Bhangra-dancing artist and viral video-making community builder.

"My original idea for this video was a Brady Bunch knock-off, where we featured a diverse cast of characters all singing the song to each other in different frames," says lead vocalist Jeff Wolosewich. "I liked the fun feel of that idea, but then I realized it was going to be a technical challenge to produce and, more importantly, it didn’t present an obvious story to tell. I stayed with the headshot idea and started thinking of the Max Headroom from the 80s, and then it hit me: the video should be a newscast. I felt that the lyrics lent themselves well to being a news/weather script. 'Holy, look! The sun shot a glare…' isn’t exactly typical weatherperson banter, but the idea worked and once I found it, the script came together super fast."

Although 'I’ve Got Time For You’ is The Dark Fruits' first official single from Authors of Affection, it’s not the first song to be released from the album. A video for the the album's lead track 'Stuck On You' was shot for Music Yukon and Yukon Film Society's 48 Hour Music Video Challenge last year, and it won the Audience Choice Award in September 2018.

The Dark Fruits' debut album Authors of Affection will be available on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes and other digital retailers and streaming services on March 1st. For more information and the most up to date tour schedule, please visit: thedarkfruits.com

Singer-Songwriter Danielle Knibbe's New Album Set For Release March 1st

Danielle_PR.jpg

2 New Singles Released Today!
STREAM/SHARE 'Long Distance' + 'Footnote'
HERE

On March 1st, Toronto-based (and Edmonton grown) singer-songwriter Danielle Knibbe will be releasing her sophomore album The Ribcage & The Heart. Every song on the new album has a counterpart that explores the same theme – a “ribcage” and a “heart” song. Two of the songs from the album, ‘Long Distance’ and ‘Footnote’, are officially released today as a 2 song EP (think side A and side B) entitled INSECURITY, after premiering on January 10th on Spill Magazine.

Danielle Knibbe named the 2-song EP, INSECURITY, because 'Long Distance' and 'Footnote' both explore a specific type of insecurity, which is insecurity within a relationship.

"'Long Distance' is a reflection on a time when my boyfriend (now-husband) was going to school in Toronto and I was based in Edmonton," says Danielle. "He was always so stoic when he had to leave to go back to Toronto, and I would be a complete mess. This song is everything I wish I’d had the nerve to say in the moment, and it only took me six years to work up the courage. And 'Footnote' is about feeling replaceable in a relationship. Love can be a temporary thing, and it’s so incredibly terrifying to give yourself to someone with the knowledge that one day they might not even remember your last name."

The release of the 2 INSECURITY tracks follows the release of 2 INFATUATION themed songs, ‘Agony' and 'Simple Love’ back in November 2018. All 4 songs will be included on Danielle Knibbe’s The Ribcage & The Heart album which is full of examples of her lyrical skill, with three of the songs having been selected for print in American Songwriter’s monthly lyric contest. This new album, mixed by Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Basia Bulat) and featuring Fats Kaplin (John Prine, Jack White), showcases the depth, insight, passion, and potential of this up-and-coming songwriter.

The Ribcage & The Heart will be available on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes and other digital retailers and streaming services on March 1st. Danielle Knibbe will be touring in support of the album in March, see below for tour dates.  For more information and the most up to date tour schedule, please visit: danielleknibbe.ca

John Wort Hannam Kicks Off 2019 With Western Canadian Tour Dates

JWH_TOURPR.jpg

"John Wort Hannam is one of Alberta’s finest singer-songwriters — a man who consistently captures what it’s like to live and breathe on the prairies." - The YYScene

"One of Alberta’s most admired folksingers for the way he relates stories in song..." - Edmonton Journal

2018 was a banner year for Alberta-based singer-songwriter John Wort Hannam. He released his critically acclaimed 7th album, Acres of Elbow Room, in September and spent much of the year playing shows across Canada promoting the album and growing his fan base. And John is showing no signs of slowing down in 2019 with a Western Canadian Tour starting on January 11th in Calgary.  See below for full tour schedule.

John Wort Hannam's life has been filled with change over that last few years - becoming a Dad, turning 50, a move to the big city, a marital reckoning, a long, deep bout of depression, and episodes of losing his singing voice.  But John has emerged a better songwriter, a better singer, and a better player.

On his latest album Acres Of Elbow Room, John has further found his lyrical style and has landed squarely on his niche in the folk/roots world. He's spent years learning the craft of songwriting and used those tools to write some of his most personal songs. And soon he's going to put those skills to use again when he begins work on his 8th studio album, set for release next year.

"The songs on Acres Of Elbow Room are by far my favourite of all I’ve written and I love sharing them with new audiences," says John. "2019 sees me back at the Banff Centre fort Arts and Creativity in March to write the next album to be released in spring 2020."

Acres of Elbow Room is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services. For more information and the most up to date tour listings, please visit: johnworthannam.com

Ryan McMahon Announces Release of 6th Album

RyanM_Cover.jpeg

WATCH/SHARE Video For First Single
'Too Tired For Love’

Vancouver Island based singer-songwriter Ryan McMahon is kicking off 2019 with the release of his 6th full-length album In Line For A Smile on February 1st, and today marks the official release of the first single 'Too Tired For Love' after premiering on Aesthetic Magazine before Christmas. McMahon will also be starting off the New Year on the road, with tour dates in Alberta and BC beginning in January. See below for complete tour listings.

In Line for a Smile is a collection of songs about the lack of human social connection in the world today, the self-help racket, and the need for the human race to place value on family, friends and the enrichment of relationships. The first single 'Too Tired for Love' is a satirical upbeat number expressing the exhaustive state the world is in with everyone trying to keep up profiles of fake happiness while the world is in a state of chaos.

As an artist in 2018, Ryan McMahon is not unfamiliar with the struggles that the demands of a social media presence can place on relationships. He himself has been guilty of dragging the computer and phone to the breakfast table in hopes of getting a jump on the list of posts and marketing required in a day. The video for the song is a direct telling of that story.

“The internet makes us sad," says Ryan. “The more we look at each other’s highlight reel, the more we falsely believe that our environment is not good enough, big enough or getting enough attention. But, the truth is, if you just tune your attention to your actual environment and are present, you’ll be much more grateful for what you have in your life, and more importantly, who you have in your life.”

With 7 releases and 6 full-length albums under his belt, Ryan McMahon has had such a successful and enduring career that one might forget that he's also a member of the popular folk/roots group Lion Bear Fox. Ryan cofounded the group in 2012 with songwriting colleagues Cory Woodward and Christopher Arruda, and the band was immediately named as one of the Top 20 Finalists for the 2013 Peak Performance Project in Vancouver.  Although Ryan is currently focusing on his own music, you can expect to hear from Lion Bear Fox again in 2019.

"The band worked tirelessly for over 6 years, and everybody agreed that we experienced some degree of burnout," says Ryan.  "We’re taking a few months off, but we do have commitments in Germany, Denmark, and Ontario next summer, so we’ll revisit writing new music before then.  As usual, with the band taking a break, I’m attempting to get my new album in as many ears as possible."

In Line For A Smile will be available on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes and other digital retailers and streaming services on February 1st, and is ready for pre-order NOW. For more information and the most up to date tour listings, please visit: ryanmcmahon.com
