Vancouver musician/drag artist Dust Cwaine (aka David Cutting) follows up their critically acclaimed single'90's Darling' with the retro-influenced 'Aliens in LA' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here. 

‘Aliens in LA’ is the 2nd single from Dust's debut album Arcana, which is set for release on September 23rd. Inspired by Pop Rock bands of the 80s like Mr. Mister and Go West, ‘Aliens in LA’ brings a fresh synth sound that immediately transports you to a late night drive through downtown LA. Producer Josh Eastman’s guitar screeches with catchy licks, while Dust’s vocals speak to an out of touch world resisting the beauty that is being different.

“This is my Fat Anthem,” says Dust. “I spend a lot of time thinking about fatness and how it is so out of rhythm with the rest of the world and how amazing that is; how much power that yields. This song carries that reflection. Lyrically this song came very easy, and Josh’s instrumentation is OUT OF THIS WORLD! The guitar is exuberant, rowdy, and in my opinion more catchy that the vocal melody. The alien metaphor is playful, and the synth is delicious! When we worked on this song, I said I wanted it to feel like you just hopped off a plane at LAX, the sun is setting and you are in a taxi flying down the freeway into downtown LA. Evoking feelings of Pretty Woman, Die Hard, and Clueless, but FATTER.”

The fun and colourful single art, promo photos and lyric video for 'Aliens in LA' were visually created by drag performer, writer, director and producer, Mily Mumford. Says Mily: "I wanted to blend imagery of space including stars and nebulas with palm trees and open roads to give you a sense of a science-fiction LA. The queer colours and prismatic and diffused style of cinematography roots the work in the celebration of the magical nature of queerness and transness. Where we may feel othered, we can create whole new worlds around ourselves.”

Dust Cwaine is a Non-Binary Aromantic, known for their bright and earthy creativity. Dust’s art centers itself in the political nature of queer identity, evoking a sense of belonging and togetherness with their presence in live spaces. 

Dust’s music carries inspiration from the alt-rock insurgence of the late 90s and early 2000s, lyrically weaving earnestness with humor, for an emotional familiarity that is immediately disarming. Their debut LP titled Arcana explores themes of fatness, sexuality, death, aromanticism, and sacrifice. Produced in collaboration with Josh Eastman of Helm Studios, the album features Calgary rapper Tea Fannie and production from PLEASEBENiCE and Ashton. Arcana is nostalgia pop navel gaze for grown theater kids.

Queen Of My Domain’ is the lead single from Zoe's forthcoming album We Were Radar Stations, set for release on October 13th. Zoe wrote the track about her aunt, drawing details of the story from their correspondence and visits over the years.

"'Queen Of My Domain' was written as a Secret Santa gift for and about my aunt," says Zoe. "I had always found bits of poetry in her emails to me, and so along with the framework of her life story, this song came easily. My aunt is a truck driver in the lower mainland of BC, and one of the only women in her workplace. The song speaks of her quest for autonomy, and in a larger sense celebrates women’s independence and empowerment."

Zoe Guigueno is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She has released two previous albums: Five Songs (2018) and Secret Admirer (2020). She lived in New York City for seven years and continues to work there as a bass player in various bands and genres. She has toured in over 20 countries and has the task of packing her suitcase down to a fine art. A graduate of the jazz program at Humber College in Toronto, Zoe now lives on Vancouver Island.

‘Blood Red Son’ is the first single from Ché’s forthcoming album, The Crowned. As Ché gears up for its release, we find her at her most ambitious and gregarious, showing a side seldom seen before, which she gives us a taste of with the lead single and video. 

“The video for ‘Blood Red Son’ is a fever dream of indecision, regret and resolve,” says Ché. “It’s about the moment you realize you have a choice to make, and all the different conflicting emotions that compete for space in your head while doing so. That’s the important bit though. However chaotic and difficult the choice may be, it’s essential for people to have the ability to make it for themselves. When I wrote this song and made this video, the right to that choice, though constantly under attack, still seemed set in stone, at least in my country. Now, as I watch the world stride backwards, I’m realizing more and more that we can’t take these things for granted. Freedom over our bodies is not a given.” 

Co-written and produced by Bob Rock and set for release later this year, The Crowned was inspired by Ché’s love of Trip Hop, Folktronica and Soul and has her signature all over it whilst reaching out into new sonic environments. Confidence and determination pulse through the songs, signalling the birth of a new era for Ché. This album tells a story of an artist’s evolution and growth.

Raised in Vancouver by her mother, a plethora of hippie aunts, punk rock uncles and a colourful extended family–think Little House on the Prairie meets The Lost Boys–Ché’s childhood was one of constant creativity and adventure, instilling in her a strong sense of individualism that she took out into the world and onto the stages of local clubs in Vancouver. She lived the troubadour life and became embroiled in the Toronto indie music scene. As she grew and spread her wings, music took her around the world, both as a solo artist and with her critically acclaimed band Casualties of Cool, a joint venture with Prog-Rock behemoth Devin Townsend, who she recently collaborated with again by featuring on his latest album Lightwork, alongside Nile Rodgers.

Produced by the JUNO-nominated team at Velveteen Music, Kaeley's latest single blends shimmer and grit to explore the ways in which we conceal the truth. Reminiscent of artists like Maggie Rogers and Taylor Swift, 'Beneath the Lies' will leave listeners eager to soak up the last rays of the summer sun.

"'Beneath the Lies' was borne of an incredibly, horrifically, painfully awkward encounter I had had with an ex-partner of mine," says Kaeley. "Afterwards, I began to think a lot about the masks that people wear, the walls that are built, and the little white lies that get told to avoid any sort of vulnerability or confrontation."

The 4th single to be released from her debut album, 'Beneath The Lies' follows previous tracks 'Poltergeist' (June 2022), 'Ego' (February 2022) and 'Painless' (April 2021). All four singles highlight the spirit of Turpentine, through which Kaeley explores the power of relationships with her polished brand of indie pop.

A Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Award nominee, Kaeley has performed on stages across Canada, including the Taste of Edmonton, Tkaronto Music Festival, and Edmonton’s Indigenous Peoples’ Festival. Pop Duo The Lockyer Boys Release New Single DAISY

Thunder Bay pop duo the Lockyer Boys return with two summer jams to add to your beach day playlists! Their new single ‘Daisy’ was written with the same dream team that brought the boys’ previous singles ‘Surfing in L.A.’ and ‘LATKD’–producers Jeff Dawson (Daniel Powter, State of Shock) and Alan Poettcker (These Kids Wear Crowns)–and is the A-Side to their double single with ‘All I Can’, created with Scott Helman. ‘Daisy’ is the 3rd single to be released from Lockyer Boys’ debut album set for release in 2023. The track encompasses some of the Lockyer Boys’ favourite moments in the recording studio. 

“On our new song ‘Daisy’, we have Jeff singing backup vocals and Alan adding layers upon layers of tambourine and cowbell–it’s just a good time,” says Charlie. “Hearing it brings back a lot of memories from the past 3 years of recording and growing as artists.”

With its infectious pop hooks, ‘Daisy’ is the fun kind of love song that you sing in the car with the windows down, but it’s also a reminder that love isn’t all fun and games. 

“Daisies are a symbol of innocence and purity, but they are also a persistent weed,” says Will. “This is the dichotomy of love. It can make you happy and also drive you insane.”

Lockyer Boys (Will and Charlie Lockyer) are brothers born and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The duo made their first steps as a cover band, quickly gaining recognition for great harmonies and multi-instrumental talent. They are currently completing their debut album, which features their poignant songwriting and songs co-written with Jeff Dawson, Shawn Hook, Scott Helman, Daniel Powter, Brian Howes, Alan Poettcker, and Akylla.
