"If you’re looking for an upbeat, hard-rocking, electrifying track to shout along with on those days when you just want to scream, this is the one for you!" - Canadian Beats

BC pop/rock musician Darrian Gerard bursts onto the scene with her new single and video 'Explosion' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

‘Explosion’ is the lead single from Darrian's highly anticipated new project set for release in early 2023. The anthemic pop-punk track is an upbeat, angst-ridden F-you song for when you’ve reached the end of your rope.

“This song is about not caring if people think you’re moody or ‘cold hearted’ for wanting to be yourself and do things that you want to do,” says Darrian. “It’s about that point in your day where if someone says one more negative thing or does that thing that bothers you, you’re going to start an explosion. I really wanted to write an upbeat pop-punk song one day, but it wasn’t quite working out. I eventually went to my electric guitar and amp and found this cool tremolo sound and the words just came automatically. I usually write songs with either an idea or a lyric in mind first, but this one came from a pre-set on my guitar amp.”

Darrian Gerard writes, records, plays, and produces all of her own music in the comfort of her in-home basement studio. Hailing from a small town in British Columbia, Canada, she learned how to play guitar at 7 years old and also began writing songs. Gerard then quickly picked up bass, piano, drums, and vocals and became her own band. When the pandemic began, she didn’t waste any time and learned the ropes of producing her own songs and navigating the music industry. To get started on her musical journey, she set up a YouTube channel where she would create covers by her favourite artists, which rapidly gained attention through those artists’ fans.

Gerard officially began her professional music career at the beginning of 2021 when she released her first single, 'I Don’t Need Anyone'. Since then, she has released 4 additional singles, all receiving various music blog write-ups, local/international radio plays, and more. Her music has been described as anthemic pop-rock, with influences of Avril Lavigne, blink-182, Halsey, and Taylor Swift.

'Explosion' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit darriangerard.com.

Vancouver Musician Ché Aimee Dorval Premieres New Single + Video FALLING UNDER

2nd SINGLE FROM NEW ALBUM
THE CROWNED // OUT ON JANUARY 19th

Today, Vancouver musician Ché Aimee Dorval shares 'Falling Under' and announces that her new album The Crowned will be out on January 19th, 2023 via Icons Creating Evil Art, except for Canada, where it will be released independently.

'Falling Under' follows the release of ‘Blood Red Son’ and is the 2nd single from Ché’s forthcoming album. The track is about the sadness of watching someone you love lose themselves to addiction, but Ché wanted to convey a more positive message with the video.

"The song 'Falling Under' is about the pain and heartbreak of watching someone you love destroy themselves," says Ché. "Ultimately, it's about losing a friend to addiction. But instead of focusing on pain in the video, I wanted to shine a light on love, support, and connection. On the people who keep you afloat when you feel like you are drowning. And the importance of saving and taking care of yourself, so that in turn you can help take care of those that need you."

Raised in Vancouver by her mother, a plethora of hippie aunts, punk rock uncles and a colourful extended family–think Little House on the Prairie meets The Lost Boys–Ché’s childhood was one of constant creativity and adventure, instilling in her a strong sense of individualism that she took out into the world and onto the stages of local clubs in Vancouver. She lived the troubadour life and became embroiled in the Toronto indie music scene. As she grew and spread her wings, music took her around the world, both as a solo artist and with her critically acclaimed band Casualties of Cool, a joint venture with Prog-Rock behemoth Devin Townsend, who she recently collaborated with again by featuring on his latest album Lightwork, alongside Nile Rodgers.

As Ché gears up to release The Crowned, we find her at her most ambitious and gregarious. It shows a side to her seldom seen before. Confidence and determination pulse through the songs, signalling the birth of a new era for Ché. Inspired by her love of Trip Hop, Folktronica and Soul, The Crowned has Ché’s signature all over it whilst reaching out into new sonic environments.

Pre-pandemic, Ché was working with Bob Rock, who produced half of the album. When we emerged from lockdown, Ché had self-produced the rest. This album tells a story of her evolution and growth. She is an artist in the truest sense of the word, a product of passion and not curation.

‘Falling Under’ is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit cheaimeedorval.com.

Toronto hip hop artist and ASL advocate MDL CHLD (aka Chris Corsini) returns with 'Numb', a powerful new song and video out today on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

'Numb' follows the release of 'All The Sudden' which came out earlier this year and is the 2nd single from MDL CHLD's new EP set for release on October 28th. Pop driven with laid back dreamy beats, 'Numb' is a personal song about addiction and mental health.

"I wrote this song when I truly hit rock bottom," says MDL CHLD. "This was the experience that cracked me open, shifted my life, and led me back to myself. I hope this song inspires anybody who is going through their own dark night of the soul to keep going; it really does get better."

MDL CHLD wants to reshape the way we look at inclusivity in the arts. He values diversity and inclusion and his vision is to merge his work as an American Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) with his passion for art and music into a unique and accessible performance approach. Like his previous creative projects, when creating the 'Numb' video MDL CHLD worked closely with members of the Deaf Community, both in front and behind the camera, while prioritizing LGBTQ+ and BIPOC individuals, whenever possible, to create performance art, music and videos, that are uniquely captivating and inclusive.

When not creating music as MDL CHLD, Chris Corsini runs the successful wellness company Inward Boutique, where he provides services as a tarot card reader, energy healer and astrologer. This successful venture landed him on the Out100 list in 2021 and has cultivated an ever-growing online community with 472K followers on Instagram, over 17K TikTok followers, and 48.9K subscribers on YouTube.

'Numb' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit mdlchld.com.

Vancouver Musician Dust Cwaine Releases Debut Album ARCANA

FEATURE SINGLE 'HEARTS IN ATLANTIS'
HERE

[Dust Cwaine/David Cutting pronouns: They/Them]

"Their voice is very textural and full of personality with a touch of imagination — just like their songwriting." - Punkhead

"Canadian artist, Dust Cwaine, combines elements of current pop culture with extremely well-written lyrics and a sound that I promise you will not be able to get out of your head."
- Mickey's Weekly

"Drenched in nostalgia and a youthful sense of exuberance, new Dust Cwaine single ’90s Darling’ does a really nice job of showcasing the thoughtful and carefree nature of the artist’s sound and intricately poised writing style."
- CLOUT

Arcana, the debut album from Vancouver musician/drag artist Dust Cwaine (aka David Cutting) is out now on all digital streaming platforms. The album was produced by Josh Eastman at Helm Studios, and also features production by PLEASEBENiCE on new single 'Hearts in Atlantis'. Listen to the album here.

Arcana is a nostalgia pop navel gaze for grown theatre kids. Boasting nine tracks, the album balances drama and sweetness in a raw modern observance of queer identity. Dust Cwaine’s lyrics tell a story that is both relatable and new, while Josh Eastman’s guitar sets the pace and tone. With catchy hooks and a mid-tempo rhythm, Arcana brings you through the fire into the river.

“Arcana is about a familiar yet uncomfortable journey," says Dust. "It’s about digging up what was lost and removing what no longer serves. It’s about falling in love with your friends and being an absolute mess. It's about the passage of time revealing new, wonderful, and wretched things about you. The album took two years to make, but its form didn’t really show itself until I was in the darkest of spaces. The title track was like a healing talisman for me. When we finished that song, the rest of the album snowballed out of it. I don’t want to romanticize pain because I find it problematic. I will, however, say that I am grateful for art as a great healer. I hope when you hear this album that you find a nugget of yourself in the journey.”

The single that accompanies the release of Arcana is the pop rock anthem 'Hearts in Atlantis'. The track offers a jolt of energy on the album, with drums that create urgency and a guitar that screeches across the sands of time. Inspired by the phenomenon of déjà vu and the concept of past lives, Dust lyrically leads this catchy song to the lost continent and back. It is Dust Cwaine at their most charming.

Dust explains: “While this song reads like a love song, it's actually a song about friend love, which I think, as an aromantic person, is a superior love to romance. I wrote this song one afternoon while sitting with a close friend. I was thinking about the idea that there are external forces at play in our minds and bodies that lead to situations and people. I wanted to write a song that played as an acknowledgement of the cycles of time and esoteric concepts we use to explain some types of love and relationships. Belief is funny, and sometimes those little feelings can’t be ignored. I like the idea that we placed our hearts together in one place so that we can find each other and love each other in infinite arrangements. I really love the idea of loving the people I love forever.”

Arcana is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more info, please visit dustcwaine.ca.

BC Musician Zoe Guigueno Releases New Single + Video BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT

FROM NEW ALBUM WE WERE RADAR STATIONS
SET FOR RELEASE ON OCTOBER 13th

WATCH/SHARE VIDEO
HERE

BC musician Zoe Guigueno's new single and video 'Benefit Of The Doubt' is out now on all digital streaming platforms. Watch video here.

'Benefit Of The Doubt’ is the 2nd single from Zoe's new album We Were Radar Stations, which will be released on October 13th. The origin story for this folky jazz-influenced track is an interesting one; beginning with someone else's words.

"The lyrics of this song came to me as a letter from a penpal–a woman I had met at a music camp," says Zoe. "Though the content of her initial correspondence had been relatively light, this one was the result of a rapid eye therapy session; a candid outpouring of her life story. I remember my jaw dropping as I read it; needing to process, I put the letter on my piano and sang her words aloud."

Accompanying the single release is a music video directed by Ali Calladine. The video portrays the relationship between artist and muse–in this case, Zoe and the penpal.

Zoe explains: "Filmed at Fiddlehead Studio on Mayne Island–the same place the album was recorded–the video illustrates the stages of the song’s creation, from the initial spark of inspiration, through the artist’s emotional processing, to the final performance of the complete song."

The opening lines of Zoe Guigueno’s forthcoming album, We Were Radar Stations, set the tone for the entire record. The words–You gotta thing you gotta tell / You gotta time you gotta tell by–establish the atmosphere of the next 33 minutes: here, in this room, we can tell our stories and be listened to without judgement. We have in attendance a first-responder suffering from complex PTSD. An orphaned farm girl trapped in an abusive relationship. A woman who grieves a missing family member. A truck driver who finds personal liberation through her work. And a couple of new lovers hiding in the mountains as a plague spreads across the land, reckoning with a new reality that is at once more contained and more expansive than ever before.

Recorded on the traditional territory of the W̱SÁNEĆ (Mayne Island), British Columbia, over two summers and two winters, the music on We Were Radar Stations springs from the hands and minds of two long-time collaborators and childhood friends. Zoe and JUNO-nominated producer Adam Iredale-Gray are responsible for the majority of sounds on this album–various guitars, piano and keyboards, basses, programmed beats, strings, even recorder and waterphone–while drummers Kelby MacNayr and Jason Burger play on about half the songs. What ‘kind’ of music is it? It’s songs with words, traces of jazz school, folk-rock, open-mic night, the use of backbeats, breathy piano, blatant midi patches, Melodyne ghost harmonies, detuned guitars repeating nightmare riffs, and even a double-drum kit solo. You can dance to it if you like. You can also just sit and close your eyes or you can walk through the woods to it.

'Benefit Of The Doubt' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. Zoe's new album We Were Radar Stations will be available everywhere on October 13th. For more information, please visit zoeguigueno.com.
