Justine Vandergrift · Ain't What it Ain't

Alberta-based singer-songwriter Justine Vandergrift unveils her new country flavoured single 'Ain't What It Ain't' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

‘Ain’t What It Ain’t’ is the 2nd single from Justine's new album Mountain Standard Time, which is set for release on March 17th. With lines like, ‘It’s all smoke and mirrors and pictures you paint’, ‘Ain’t What it Ain’t’ is a quick little number with an old-time bluegrass feel that playfully speaks to modern day feelings of disenchantment.

“Writing the song, I imagined an elderly character who has used the saying ‘it is what it is’ as a way of coping with challenges and adversity throughout their life - a farmer whose crop is ruined by bad weather, a factory worker laid off because of a shifting market, a teacher trying to help a student progress in a system that’s not designed for them,” says Justine. “But at some point the aphorism fails to satisfy - this pensioner has come to a breaking point in their life where resigned acceptance is an inadequate response. They’ve begun to see and understand the greater systems at play in their environment, and to realize that the struggles and suffering they’ve endured are not the collateral damage generated by the cold indifference of the universe, but rather the inevitable results of corporations and institutions saying anything to further their own interests.”

Based in Cochrane, AB, Justine is an Americana musician with an irresistible knack for melody and lyric. On her new album Mountain Standard Time, she reveals a confidence and new depth to her sound with her clear emotive voice drawing listeners in to her narratives. Produced by Trevor McNeely, Jeff Kynoch and Justine, the trio recorded the entire album live off the floor.

"This album represents my strongest, most mature, and most playful work yet," says Justine. "All ten songs have unique feels and stories. I hope the eclecticism of the album keeps the listener engaged and even smiling from time to time. Some songs showcase my love of the folk songwriting tradition, while others lay into simple old country, honky-tonk, and blues. I hope these songs are as fun to listen to as they were to write and record."

'Ain't What It Ain't' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit justinevandergrift.com.

Alberta Musician Rebecca Lappa Announces Release of New EP | 1st Single Out Now!

1ST SINGLE FROM TALES OF A TAURUS
OUT ON MAY 5th

WATCH/SHARE LYRIC VIDEO HERE

Prolific Alberta-based singer-songwriter Rebecca Lappa returns with new indie-pop anthem ‘Blue Lips’ out today on all digital streaming platforms and announces her new EP Tales of a Taurus, which will be released on May 5th via Tonic Records/Fontana.

Making music since the age of 12 in her native home of Edmonton, Rebecca released six albums in quick succession between 2011 and 2016, winning over fans and critics alike and nominated five times for the prestigious Canadian Folk Music Awards. Now Rebecca starts a new chapter, departing from the acoustic folk/rock that has distinguished her music so far, and boldly leaning into a new pop sound with her new EP Tales of a Taurus set for release in May. The first glimpse of it is provided with lead single ‘Blue Lips’ - a captivating look into a ‘romantic with a hint of manic’ relationship, complete with an addictive chorus, understated guitars and barely there synths.

“I wanted to write a song that used the Canadian winter landscape as a metaphor for a relationship,” says Rebecca. “This song is about loving someone who every time you are with them it feels like falling through the ice and getting hypothermia because they don’t return the same feelings you have. I was inspired to create a hypnotic up tempo track to go with my lyrics.”

Just signed to Tonic Records, Rebecca is excited to release her 6-song EP Tales of a Taurus, produced by acclaimed recording artist Louise Burns, on May 5th. This venture into indie pop reflects Rebecca’s growth as a writer and willingness to take sonic risks. In this new release, she takes the story of the wounded healer to new heights, sharing the pain and struggles of women in their 20s with the courage to find healing within and hope for the future ahead. Born in San Francisco but Canadian to the core, Rebecca is bringing the message back to the music in 2023.

'Blue Lips' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit rebeccalappa.com.

Alberta Musician Justine Vandergrift Announces New Album MOUNTAIN STANDARD TIME

NEW ALBUM OUT ON MARCH 17th

Justine Vandergrift · Little Bird

Alberta musician Justine Vandergrift shares her new single 'Little Bird' out today on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

‘Little Bird’ is the first single from Justine's new album Mountain Standard Time, which is set for release on March 17th. The soft and dreamy track draws inspiration from Justine’s other upcoming release, a new baby girl, due later this month.

"My co-producer Trevor McNeely wrote 'Little Bird' and pitched it as an idea for the album," says Justine. "It wasn’t a style I was used to singing or writing in but there was just an ease about the tune that pulled me in. I added a verse and when we recorded it live in the studio, we sort of magically eased into it and it ended up making the final cut. Most songwriters don’t like talking about what songs like this are really about, hoping that the listener just feels it. But Trev said he wrote it as a love song for his wife as they were expecting their child. With my own baby girl on the way, it feels timely to share this gentle and uplifting recording with the world."

Based in Cochrane, AB, Justine is an Americana singer-songwriter with an irresistible knack for melody and lyric. On her new album Mountain Standard Time, she reveals a playfulness, confidence, and new depth to her sound with her clear emotive voice drawing listeners into her narratives.

Produced by Trevor McNeely, Jeff Kynoch and Justine, the trio recorded all the songs on Mountain Standard Time live off the floor. Says Justine: "We truly had a lot of fun with every song. I hope the listeners can feel that."

'Little Bird' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit justinevandergrift.com.

Ottawa Singer-Songwriter Norm Brunet Releases New Single + Video SO LONG

WATCH/SHARE VIDEO HERE

Ottawa-based country rock musician Norm Brunet is pleased to announce the release of his new single 'So Long' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

'So Long' follows the release of Norm's 2019 Reflections EP and is a classic rocking country track with metaphorical lyrics about living during the COVID pandemic and trying to keep the faith.

“I wrote this track after being sidelined during the COVID pandemic," says Norm. "Not being able to tour took away my livelihood and it was so hard to remain hopeful. ’So Long’ is about what it was like to live through the pandemic as a musician and how it felt to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.”

A lifelong Ottawa resident, Norm’s artistic ability was evident at an early age. With a diverse appreciation for music, Norm counts among his many influences, the country tinged southern rock sound of the Eagles and Poco, Americana artist Rodney Crowell, and the rocking sounds of John Mellencamp and Bob Seger to name a few.

For the past ten years, Norm has been performing throughout the U.S southern states, playing clubs and festivals and occasional shows in his hometown of Ottawa. He will undertake a series of U.S. club dates starting in Florida this March.

'So Long' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit: normbrunet.com.
