Oslo-based American singer-songwriter Luke Elliot invites us to share in his heartbreak on new single 'What It Is' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

A huge break-up ballad enhanced with both strings and choir parts, What It Is' is the 2nd single from Luke's upcoming album Let Em All Talk, due to be released via Icons Creating Evil Art on May 19th.

"This is a piece about my family before it fell apart," says Luke. "It’s still difficult for me to listen to. It happened in Sweden with Peter Kvint in about 5 minutes. I struggled with the lyrics for a while, but the melody came immediately."

Let Em All Talk follows the release of Luke’s evocative second LP The Big Wind (2020) – a boldly textured and instantly immersive album with a film noirish touch that is simultaneously sleek and modern at the eye of the storm. Rolling Stone France picked The Big Wind as its Album Of The Month upon release and referred to Luke as an “undeniable talent combined with a truly stunning voice.” MOJO Magazine in the UK called him “...a master of accessible, twisted, gothic Americana.”

Musically, an eclectic mix of influences pumps through Luke’s veins that range from John Coltrane, Duke Ellington and Dylan to The Cramps, Gun Club and Mink DeVille, to films such as Badlands, Pulp Fiction, Natural Born Killers. And his interest in film hasn’t stayed with music, it has also taken him to the big screen. It turns out the multi-talented artist has acting skills as well. He performed his song ‘All On Board’ in the Norwegian TV-series hit Exit, Norway’s most streamed series ever, and he played against Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix) in crime series Wisting.

'What It Is' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit lukeelliot.com.

British Pop/Dance Artist JASMINE IS Releases 2nd Single LOVE OF MONEY

British pop/dance artist JASMINE IS is ready to light up the dance floor with her new track ‘Love of Money’ out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

‘Love of Money’ is the second single from the debut album HEAR by JASMINE IS, which is set for release in May. Produced by Philip Larsen (Kylie Minogue, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga) this electro dance-pop song explores the old adage that money can’t buy you happiness.

“I sent Philip the song with a reference for the kind of feel I was after, a dance vibe,” says JASMINE IS. “The inspiration for 'Love of Money' was someone I know who had an unhealthy obsession with money, spending lavishly, living hard and having nothing to show for it at the end of the day. It was an endless cycle trying to fill an emotional void with stuff, and of course, that never works. I liked the idea of a pop/dance track juxtaposed with the seriousness of the message: the insidious nature of greed.”

JASMINE and Philip had a somewhat unique working relationship when recording her new album HEAR. Being intensely private and avoiding phone and video calls, JASMINE’s preference was to communicate only via messaging and the odd voice note while sending files backwards and forwards for the first year.

Says JASMINE: “The limitations caused by the pandemic and having to work remotely, actually suited me perfectly. After about a year working together, messaging only, I’d written a song that Philip composed a beautiful piano piece for, but when I heard it, it immediately sparked a completely different melody with a very different subject. As he was going to have to create something else, I decided it would be better to discuss things over the phone. That was the first time we spoke! And as for the first Zoom call, that took another 6 months! Thankfully, we’ve proved that working remotely and invisibly for the most part, doesn’t have to be detrimental to collaborating and creating music. But who knows, it’s entirely possible Philip and I may meet up one of these days..under a Vulcan! But that’s another story..”

‘Love of Money’ is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit jasmine.is.

BC singer-songwriter Genevieve Charbonneau looks for the light in the darkness with her new single 'Symphony of Sorrow' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

"Though 'Symphony of Sorrow' is a breakup song, it’s really about using music to process the grief and find hope in the life after," says Genevieve. "Producer Adrian Dolan composed an incredible string section to accompany my melody and lyrics and I decided to use Leonard Cohen’s very popular and hauntingly beautiful song 'Hallelujah' as a reference. The structure of the verses echoes that of his song, and there are also several direct references lyrically."

Based on Vancouver Island in the Cowichan Valley, Genevieve crafts tales of love, loss and rural living in between raising her three sons, harvesting veggies from the garden, and hauling firewood to fuel her earthen home. Her music is rooted in folk and old-time country but incorporates bluegrass rhythms, Americana and pop. Her songs turn effortlessly from insightful love ballads to rollicking political hootenannies.

For 5 years, Genevieve fronted the band Genevieve and the Wild Sundays, and toured across Vancouver Island, BC, and Ireland. She later joined forces with singer-songwriter Jack Connolly to create the folk power duo Heartwood. Genevieve has played many music festivals, including Vancouver Island Music Fest, Rifflandia, Islands Folk Festival, Coombs Bluegrass Festival, and ArtsWells.

Genevieve's new single 'Symphony of Sorrow' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit: genevievemusic.ca.

Critically acclaimed artist Luke Elliot (US) has held audiences spellbound by his skilled songwriting filled with cinematic sensation and explosive, yet elegant, live performances since the release of his debut album in 2016. Born and raised in New Jersey, Luke Elliot fell in love with Northern Europe during a visit and settled down in Oslo (Norway), and Northern Europe fell in love with him too, growing a solid fan base. Still, his passion for performing and meeting his fans has taken him to sold out venues all over the world. Since the release of the previous album, The Big Wind (2020), Luke has been touring and writing new songs for his forthcoming third album. To get a taste of what he has been working on, the first single—‘Let ’em All Talk‘—is out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

“I’m so relieved to finally get this record going with the first single, ‘Let ‘em All Talk,’” says Luke. “This song started off with me and Frode (Jacobsen) sitting in his basement. He had some ideas for basic chords and I just started singing along to the melody naturally, like some sort of chanteur. I’m not sure where it came from, but the first line just came out this way, with different words in the beginning. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to write about, so it took me a little while to get the imagery together. I finished it while in Pasadena. What haunting background vocals by Peter Kvint. Who can even come up with stuff like that anymore?"

The single 'Let ’em All Talk' is the title track of Luke's upcoming album, due to be released on Icons Creating Evil Art in May 2023

'Let 'em All Talk' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit lukeelliot.com.

Justine Vandergrift Releases 2nd Single AIN'T WHAT IT AIN'T // New Album Out March 17th

Justine Vandergrift · Ain't What it Ain't

Alberta-based singer-songwriter Justine Vandergrift unveils her new country flavoured single 'Ain't What It Ain't' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

‘Ain’t What It Ain’t’ is the 2nd single from Justine's new album Mountain Standard Time, which is set for release on March 17th. With lines like, ‘It’s all smoke and mirrors and pictures you paint’, ‘Ain’t What it Ain’t’ is a quick little number with an old-time bluegrass feel that playfully speaks to modern day feelings of disenchantment.

“Writing the song, I imagined an elderly character who has used the saying ‘it is what it is’ as a way of coping with challenges and adversity throughout their life - a farmer whose crop is ruined by bad weather, a factory worker laid off because of a shifting market, a teacher trying to help a student progress in a system that’s not designed for them,” says Justine. “But at some point the aphorism fails to satisfy - this pensioner has come to a breaking point in their life where resigned acceptance is an inadequate response. They’ve begun to see and understand the greater systems at play in their environment, and to realize that the struggles and suffering they’ve endured are not the collateral damage generated by the cold indifference of the universe, but rather the inevitable results of corporations and institutions saying anything to further their own interests.”

Based in Cochrane, AB, Justine is an Americana musician with an irresistible knack for melody and lyric. On her new album Mountain Standard Time, she reveals a confidence and new depth to her sound with her clear emotive voice drawing listeners in to her narratives. Produced by Trevor McNeely, Jeff Kynoch and Justine, the trio recorded the entire album live off the floor.

"This album represents my strongest, most mature, and most playful work yet," says Justine. "All ten songs have unique feels and stories. I hope the eclecticism of the album keeps the listener engaged and even smiling from time to time. Some songs showcase my love of the folk songwriting tradition, while others lay into simple old country, honky-tonk, and blues. I hope these songs are as fun to listen to as they were to write and record."

'Ain't What It Ain't' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit justinevandergrift.com.
