Vancouver Musician Colleen Rennison Releases New Single + Video I DO

2nd SINGLE FROM NEW ALBUM
PERSEPHONE OUT LATER THIS YEAR

Vancouver musician Colleen Rennison captures the dreamy bliss of having a summer crush on her new single 'I Do' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

'I Do' is the second single from Colleen's new album Persephone set for release later this year. The laid back R&B track wears its retro influences proudly, giving it a hopeful optimism that feels satisfyingly sweet.

"I wanted to capture the excitement and delicious agony of being enamoured with someone and daydreaming about them to the point of almost insanity," says Colleen. "I woke up in the middle of the night and wrote the chorus. I'd been listening to a lot of The Temptations and The Supremes and had been crushing on a graffiti writer who's name I kept seeing everywhere, hence the line: 'every time I see your name/ I seem to hear sweet refrains.'"

Colleen burst onto the music scene in 2011 with blues-rock group No Sinner. The band made immediate waves with music critics comparing her to blues belters like Janis Joplin and Maggie Bell, but Colleen is entirely her own invention. Her voice is technically astounding, but the experience behind it inhabits every note. She entered the film industry at the age of five and that rootless existence as a child actor is still there in her undying commitment to the performance—nobody is more explosively honest or vulnerable onstage—and also in the demons that animate her.

No Sinner achieved enormous success abroad before hitting the wall, painfully, in 2016. Attempts to generate a new career in New York and Austin left the singer in a new kind of limbo, while the bad and dangerous situations persisted. Exiling herself to Vancouver Island only deepened the crisis. Back in Vancouver she was spat out into the Downtown Eastside, where things might have gotten worse—but didn’t. Miraculously, Colleen found the help she needed. She found the right friends, the right kind of support, the internal discipline, and, finally, the creative partner she always deserved. Entering producer Felix Fung’s New Westminster studio in early 2021, Colleen Rennison began work on the record that will stand as the truest expression of her art and her first true masterpiece.

'I Do' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit colleenrennison.ca.

'Gemini Rising’ is the first single and title track from Liam’s new album (out on June 30th), which was written and recorded when he was 15 years old.

"The song is inspired by my study of Greek Mythology and specifically the mythology of the Gemini star constellation,” says Liam. "The themes are experienced by all of us, every day, as we go about our lives, specifically; separation, loss, longing, love, and reunification. The song is about two people who have been separated and are destined to overcome all odds to reunite."

Based on Vancouver Island, Liam Docherty is an official partner of Taylor Guitars and has been performing publicly since the age of 7. He’s opened shows for the legendary Terry Robb, Ken Hamm, Mississippi Delta Bluesman Terry “Harmonica” Bean, and BC Hall of Fame Inductee Doug Cox, among others.

Set for release on June 30th, Liam's new album Gemini Rising follows the release of his 2020 debut album Modern. Magic. Melody., which earned critical acclaim and sold records internationally. The album also received TV, radio, and print media coverage from CBC, The Globe & Mail, The Vancouver Sun, The Times Colonist, and CHEK TV. It also yielded a nomination for New Act of The Year at the Maple Blues Awards and at just 13 years of age, he became the youngest person in the history of the awards to be nominated.

[Beau's pronouns are: He/Him/They/Them]

Vancouver musician Beau Wheeler reaches for the sky on their powerful new single ‘Flying Colours’ out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

’Flying Colours’ is the second single and title track from Beau’s new album and follows the release of 'Arizona', which was released last year. Inspiring and full of hope, 'Flying Colours' is a triumphant song about coming out of the dark and into the light.

"'Flying Colours' is a comeback song," says Beau. “It's a song I wrote while I was going through treatment for cancer. I was thinking about a time when I could play music at shows with my friends again. I just wanted to be one of the people out there making music. Now when I play it, it seems to really resonate with people because everyone seems to need a comeback song right now. This is a beautiful time for the arts, like a flowering of culture. Lots of difficult things are happening, but also lots of amazing things. I also came out as trans during the pandemic. This song is super gay."

Beau Wheeler is a queer non-binary composer and singer based in Vancouver. Blessed with a set of pipes that would be the envy of Torch and Twang era k.d. lang or a young Robert Plant, Beau's new album Flying Colours captures the breadth and diversity of their musical vision.

Theirs is a music that encompasses a wide spectrum of human experience. With songs that touch on love, loss and redemption, and an unflagging ability to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again, Beau, who recently came out to the world as trans, is one of Canada’s brightest lights and an artist to watch out for.

'Flying Colours' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit beauwheeler.com.

Luke Elliot Releases Third Album LET EM ALL TALK + Shares New Video

Oslo-based American singer-songwriter Luke Elliot shares new video 'I (Who Have Nothing)' from his third full-length album Let 'em All Talk out today on all digital streaming platforms via Icons Creating Evil Art. Watch video here.

First recorded in 1963 by Ben E. King, 'I (Who Have Nothing)' has been covered by many artists, including Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, and Status Quo, putting Luke in esteemed company.

“This song was introduced to me by my publishing company," says Luke. "I was describing a sound I had in mind, and they sent me Tom Jones’ version of this gem. With the original music written by Luis Bacalov for Joe Sentieri (later to be used by Ben E. King), I fell in love immediately. This is the only track on the album I did on the first vocal take. I thought it was gonna be impossible to pull off, but it was magic. The band created their own musical world for this song, primarily conducted by Freddy Holm and Bebe Risenfors.”

Let 'em All Talk follows the release of Luke's evocative second LP, The Big Wind (2020), a boldly textured and instantly immersive album with a film noirish touch that is simultaneously sleek and modern at the eye of the storm. Luke continues in the same direction with Let 'em All Talk as he digs deeper, exploring more personal and intimate themes.

Says Luke: “This record happened during a separation between me and my wife. I've always been personal with my work, but this is the first time I've actually been explicit. I was clear-headed for some of it, and out of my mind for other parts. I think, I hope, it's alright to be honest about that. I didn't want to pull the wool over anyone's eyes this time. I just wanted to get it all out there."

Musically, an eclectic mix of influences pumps through Luke’s veins that range from John Coltrane, Duke Ellington and Dylan to The Cramps, Gun Club and Mink DeVille, to films such as Badlands, Pulp Fiction, Natural Born Killers. And his interest in film hasn’t stayed with music, it has also taken him to the big screen. It turns out the multi-talented artist has acting skills as well. He performed his song ‘All On Board’ in the Norwegian TV-series hit Exit, Norway’s most streamed series ever, and he played against Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix) in crime series Wisting.

Let 'em All Talk is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit lukeelliot.com.

JASMINE IS Releases Debut Album + Reveals Video For PASSION

"Jasmine’s music style is a perfect blend of pop and electronic dance music, and her voice is both powerful and versatile, which complements the upbeat and catchy melodies of her tracks." - Plastic Magazine

"This is a groovy electronic dance tune with reminisces of the 90s sound, along with the powerful and stunning voice of Jasmine Is. This song will definitely put some fire on the dancefloor!"
- Space Sour

The day has finally arrived! British pop/dance artist JASMINE IS' debut album HEAR is out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

To mark the occasion, JASMINE is also releasing a 3rd single ‘Passion' (following 'Love of Money' and 'Miss You While I'm Sleeping'), along with a music video for the track. Produced by Philip Larsen (Kylie Minogue, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry), this uplifting, soulful pop groove crushes on living life with empathy and compassion.

“Compassion is something that is truly lacking in the world right now,” says JASMINE IS. “I wanted to write a song that conveyed this message but at the same time, needed it to feel hopeful.”

JASMINE and Philip had a somewhat unique working relationship when recording her new album HEAR. Being intensely private and avoiding phone and video calls, JASMINE’s preference was to communicate only via messaging and the odd voice note while sending files backwards and forwards for the first year.

"We were very much a lockdown production," says Philip. "We are on different continents as it is, so it probably wouldn't have worked in person in any case. The fun part was that we communicated mostly via WhatsApp, exchanging short fire messages with vocal ideas, inspirations and music demos. Almost all our communication was musical by nature and that meant for a flurry of ideas on each song. And in the early stages when we were just finding our feet, we could try our own ideas out in full, before sharing them. This is a great way to do things, as there is no fear of embarrassment when an early idea needs a bit of development before being shared with your co-writer. I don't think we would even be able to work in the same room now as it would upset the flow and creativity!"

HEAR is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit jasmine.is.
