Vancouver Duo Earia Music Project Release THE WEIGHT In Support Of Palestine

WATCH/SHARE VIDEO HERE
(CW: VIDEO CONTAINS DISTURBING IMAGES)

Vancouver duo Earia Music Project share 'The Weight', a song calling for global awareness and action to stop the genocide in Gaza. The track is out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

The Weight was written with a heavy heart for the people of Gaza by Earia Music Project percussionist Sal Mattar, who is a Palestinian Canadian, in support of the Palestine Emergency Appeal through Islamic Relief Canada. (Donate here.) This is his debut in this capacity, after being driven by the emotional intensity of the current Israel-Gaza conflict to write this song. Sal's family is from Palestine and this crisis that has been progressing for decades has affected him and his family throughout the years and continues to do so.

"Our generation and many before us have seen devastating cultural demise throughout the world," says Sal. "This song was written as a catalyst for conversation, reflection and acknowledgement. As humans, we all deserve the right to live. Human rights belong to every culture, every race, every age, every geographical location. 'The Weight' was created to shed light on critical global issues and to unite our collaborative global community to stand up for all HUMAN KIND."

The video for 'The Weight' was produced using video clips gathered via TikTok, Instagram and other social media feeds of Palestinians on the ground in Gaza from October to December 2023. Says Sal: "Unfortunately the amount of content available is overwhelming and these are just a few clips of the devastation."

Earia, an Arabic word meaning ‘to be naked’, defines both the power and the process that is Earia Music Project. Their approach to songwriting is the result of countless hours of focusing on the rebirth of musical roots - keeping themselves open, unrestricted, and free of limitations. Naked.

Earia Music Project’s foundation is an acoustic, folk, roots, and Americana duo featuring Matthew Landry (guitar/vocals) and Sal Mattar (percussion), often performing as a 3-piece with James Miller (keys). With soulful lyrics and skillful musicianship, they have already made a mark in the local music scene as they share their original songs about life, love, connection and world events. Their energetic and mesmerizing live performances, undeniable chemistry and genuine love for music are palpable on stage, captivating audiences and leaving long-lasting impressions. It’s no surprise that soon after forming in 2022, they won North Vancouver’s Shipyards Got Talent and have since begun working on their debut album scheduled for release later this year.

'The Weight' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit eariamusic.ca.

BC Alt-Rockers Vogue Villains Release New Single A SLOW RIDE

LATEST SINGLE FROM NEW ALBUM
OUT ON MARCH 7th

STREAM/SHARE HERE

Vogue Villains · A Slow Ride (At The Speed Of Light)

Vancouver Island based alt-rockers Vogue Villains share their new single 'A Slow Ride' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

The latest single from their debut full-length album Built On Bones, set for release on March 7th, 'A Slow Ride' deals with themes of being exhausted and fed up with the negative pressures that people can put on you.

"While the lyrics may be sparse, they came out aggressive and poignant, so naturally the music had to follow suit," says lead vocalist / bassist Andrew Baskin. "To say that it's a song about no longer taking sh*t from anyone may be an oversimplification. It becomes much more complex when you think about the fact that we can just as much be the culprits of our own demise. And imagine the physical and mental struggle that goes along with that - a self manifested fist fight and the slow ride we take when we've been knocked down to the mat and the never-ending struggle to climb back on to your feet."

Based in Campbell River, BC, Vogue Villains are a hard rocking alternative band with a musical foundation planted firmly in catchy melodies and multi-part harmonies. Their live show is big, dirty and full of raw energy while also having a humorous stage presence that goes hand in hand with their tongue-in-cheek lyrics. Set on making music that feels unique, yet unafraid to wear their many influences on their sleeves (QOTSA, Billy Talent and Arctic Monkeys to name a few), this powerhouse of a band has created a sound that is undeniably and unmistakably their own.

'A Slow Ride' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. Vogue Villains will tour across BC and Alberta this spring, see below for full tour dates. For more information, please visit voguevillains.com.

Vancouver Musician Devon More Shares Empowering New Single MY BODY IS

LATEST SINGLE FROM NEW ALBUM
OUT ON FEBRUARY 29th

WATCH/SHARE LYRIC VIDEO HERE

Vancouver musician Devon More shares her empowering new single 'My Body Is' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

The latest single from her new album Sky Is Falling, set for release on February 29th, 'My Body Is', is a powerful anthem for the fundamental right of bodily autonomy.

"'My Body Is' is a complete sentence: my body exists, and that is enough," says Devon. "The song is my attempt to disentangle a lifetime of mixed media messages and societal projections onto my female body - and ultimately celebrate the simple living magic in ALL body machines. Every flesh home is worthy - no matter what it looks like, or where we may find ourselves on the love/hate relationship spectrum on any given day."

Devon's latest single follows the release of previous tracks 'Finally Yours' and 'Songbird' in 2023. And 'My Body Is' is not just the latest single from her new album; it's also one of 5 original songs featured in Devon More’s critically acclaimed stage show - Hits Like A Girl (premiered/toured in 2019)  - an immersive soundscape and poetic manifesto exploring the aftermath of a traumatic brain injury acquired in her early 20s that left her in an altered state of consciousness for years.

From Kamloops but currently based in Vancouver, Devon is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumental musician (guitar, flute, and more), and genre-bending performance artist who combines insightful lyrics and infectious melodies in alternative pop rock songs served with a side of symphony. Centered on themes of wanderlust, revolution, and love, Devon’s story driven songs illuminate universal themes while drawing rich images from her own unique life experience as a globetrotter (approx 30 countries!), polyglot (German, Dutch, English), and Traumatic Brain Injury survivor.

'My Body Is' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit devonmoremusic.com.

Vancouver Musician Steve Maddock Shares New Single A SPECIAL KIND OF LOVE

2nd SINGLE FROM NEW ALBUM
OUT ON FEBRUARY 16th

STREAM/SHARE
HERE

Steve Maddock · A Special Kind Of Love

Vancouver musician Steve Maddock shares his new single 'A Special Kind Of Love' out now on all digital streaming platforms via Salt Spring Records. Listen here.

The 2nd single from Steve Maddock's new album Jack Of All Trades, 'A Special Kind Of Love' follows the release of the lead single 'Holy Man', which came out late last year. Set for release on February 16th, Jack Of All Trades is a joint venture between Steve and Mike Reveley. Mike is a former Vancouver jazz arranger/composer who founded the Capilano University Jazz Studies Program where Steve studied.

A soulful ballad that deals with the real meaning of love, 'A Special Kind Of Love' pulls at the heartstrings as hints of jazz and blues shine through.

"The song is about a young man talking with his father about his new girlfriend," says 'A Special Kind Of Love' songwriter Mike Reveley. "The older man tries to tell him what real love is all about, but he doesn’t quite understand. He feels that he already knows what love is. As he ages, he comes to understand what his father was talking about: 'that special kind of love'."

Over the past two decades, Steve Maddock has been steadily establishing himself as one of Canada’s most versatile vocal talents. Whether sharing a concert stage with a 65-piece symphony orchestra, performing with a 10-piece show band on a cruise ship, or fronting a jazz trio in a local club, he’s able to change gears effortlessly and present the music in a way that’s honest and fresh. Steve’s first love is jazz, but he is equally at home with blues, pop and musicals.

Steve is currently on the Jazz Faculty of Capilano University where he has taught private voice, vocal jazz masterclass, studio performance, vocal improvisation and ear training. He works as an adjudicator and clinician at many different Canadian music festivals.

'A Special Kind Of Love' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit stevemaddock.com.

HERE

Steve Maddock · Holy Man

Vancouver musician Steve Maddock shares his new single 'Holy Man' out now on all digital streaming platforms via Salt Spring Records. Listen here.

'Holy Man' is the first single from Steve Maddock's new album Jack Of All Trades, which is set for release on February 16th. The album is a joint venture between Steve and Mike Reveley. Mike is a former Vancouver jazz arranger/composer who founded the Capilano University Jazz Studies Program where Steve studied.

A rocking shuffle with an 8-piece band and a great solo by Vancouver jazz guitarist Bill Coon, 'Holy Man' is a song about a man seeking redemption with the help of a strong woman.

"We have all, at one time or another, experienced situations where we need support to overcome personal problems," says 'Holy Man' songwriter Mike Reveley. "All too often these problems are drug and alcohol related. We all know someone who is struggling with an addiction."

Over the past two decades, Steve Maddock has been steadily establishing himself as one of Canada’s most versatile vocal talents.
