Celtic Folk Duo Jocelyn Pettit & Ellen Gira Release New Album HERE TO STAY

Known for their vibrant fusion of traditional Celtic music and contemporary folk influences, Canadian fiddler Jocelyn Pettit and American cellist Ellen Gira have carved out a distinctive space on the international music scene. Their latest single carries a message of unity and emotional resilience, which is something that Jocelyn (who wrote the lyrics) finds especially meaningful.

"Here To Stay' is about coming together for strength and happiness, especially in times of hardship," said Jocelyn Pettit. "The jig in the middle of the song was inspired by my dear cousin, Mary-Jane, whose bright spirit lives on.”

Here To Stay is Jocelyn Pettit & Ellen Gira’s second collaborative release, following their award-winning debut All It Brings, and is Jocelyn’s fifth album overall. The album is a vibrant celebration of home and travel, featuring 11 carefully crafted instrumental and vocal tracks inspired by the duo’s roots and global journeys. Since first meeting in Scotland, both musicians have returned to North America – a migratory path reflected in the album’s artwork, which features the Common Loon. Blending textured fiddle-cello interplay, French Canadian foot percussion, rich harmonies, and lively dance tunes, the album also features Montréal-based guest guitarist Everest Witman.

“It is so exciting to share this new music!," says Jocelyn. "With inspiration from home and from touring adventures, Here To Stay combines traditional tunes and songs with more original material than our previous album. It’s a joy to be part of the vibrant traditional music community, and to bring people together through music. We’re keen to help keep traditional music alive and celebrate this living tradition!”

Vancouver drag performer and indie pop-rock musician Dust Cwaine returns with their electric new single and video, 'Little Plans', out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

Produced by Josh Eastman (Kylie V, Turunesh) and written by Dust and Charlie Kerr (Hotel Mira), 'Little Plans' is the lead single from Dust's forthcoming album Twin Lakes, set for release later this year. Emotionally charged and buzzing with energy, the driving synth-rock track channels the all-encompassing feeling of a new romantic connection.

"'Little Plans' is a T4T love story that celebrates the joy of trans love," said Dust. "I wrote it in my living room with my friend Charlie Kerr. I was excited about the new person I was seeing, and this potential for transformation and magic seemed to be all around me. I told him I was so in love that every time I saw this person, I refused to wash my hands after they left so the scent would linger. That excitement of new love, and that particular power that T4T love brings, can take the everyday minutiae of your life and transform it into something you would have never thought was possible."

With nearly a decade of performance experience, Dust Cwaine needs little introduction at home in Vancouver, BC. Already well-known for their drag shows, both as a performer and impresario, Dust’s songwriting project began in 2020 and channels the moody synthesizer excess of The Cure with the bare-faced honesty of Haim and Noah Kahan. Anchored with a tender sense of responsibility and truth, enlivened by a quick wit and penchant for a catchy chorus, their body of work maps out a rich array of subjects and priorities.

Dust’s genre-blurring sound – described as “nostalgia pop-rock navel gaze” – has earned praise from Exclaim!, The Jann Arden Podcast, and The Georgia Straight, which named them a Vancouver Local Hero in 2024. They’ve shared stages with acts like Hotel Mira and Young Friend, and sold out headline shows nationwide. Their new single, 'Little Plans', follows 2024’s 'Brooklyn' and 'Everything', the 2023 EP 17, and their acclaimed 2022 debut Arcana, all building anticipation for their sophomore LP later this year.

Hughes, the indie folk project from Yellowknife musician Benji Straker, share their emotionally tender new single 'Despite The Distance' out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

The first single from Hughes' self-titled debut full-length (out on July 11th), 'Despite The Distance' was initially released last year but Straker felt the song deserved a place on the album, so he recorded a new version hoping to get more ears on the authentic and introspective track.

"I wrote 'Despite The Distance' during a period of deep reflection on fatherhood—reminiscing about my two little girls, watching them grow, and feeling that bittersweet pull between the past and the future," says Benji Straker. "As parents, we all question if we're doing enough, but this song is my way of holding onto the moments that matter most. I originally released it as a single in early 2024, but as both the song and Hughes evolved, I felt it deserved another chance to shine—so I re-recorded it for the album to truly do it justice."

Through his indie folk project, Straker weaves introspective lyrics, ambient textures, and country-surf guitar into a sound both ethereal and grounded. Rooted in the wild beauty of the North, Hughes channels the serenity of lakes and the glow of the aurora into music that explores love, loss, and self-discovery. What began as a solo endeavour has grown into a full-band experience, blending folk storytelling with blues-rock grit and layered instrumentation. Whether intimate or expansive, Hughes offers an evocative journey that resonates with raw emotion and authenticity.
