The Living Orchestra Share New Single NOT GONNA DIE TONIGHT

Watch/Share Lyric Video HERE

Vancouver symphonic funk rock collective The Living Orchestra share their powerful new single “Not Gonna Die Tonight,” out now on all streaming platforms. The track is the third release from the band’s forthcoming debut album, Last Generation – an ambitious climate crisis rock opera produced by JUNO Award-winning and GRAMMY-nominated producer Garth Richardson.

Blending orchestral grandeur, funk-infused rhythms, and explosive rock energy, “Not Gonna Die Tonight” confronts the emotional paralysis and exhaustion surrounding the climate crisis, capturing the tension between awareness and inaction in an increasingly distracted world.

“This song is about climate fatigue and inaction – feeling powerless from the flood of climate headlines (or lack thereof), leading to hopelessness or apathy, especially in an increasingly distracted world,” says singer, songwriter, and bandleader Mike Bell. “In our rock opera, it is sung in the present from the point of view of an anxious and apathetic person, who believes nothing they do will be effective against climate change, and it’s not their problem anyway.”

The release arrives just days ahead of Last Generation’s official debut on May 17, when the album will premiere as a complete immersive experience at Vancouver’s Hollywood Theatre. The performance will feature the full 13-piece band, the 18-person Mighty Chorus choir, projector visuals, and a programmed light show, transforming the album into a fully immersive multimedia experience.

In a bold departure from conventional release models, Last Generation will initially only be available as a physical and digital album purchase, rather than on streaming services, encouraging listeners to experience the project in its entirety before its wider streaming release later this year.

Structured across three chapters – Inaction, Reaction, and Aftermath – Last Generation unfolds through the voices of characters in the past, present, and future, examining the causes, consequences, and outcomes of the climate crisis through a sweeping cinematic lens.

“My hope is for this album to inspire action so we can skip the second chapter,” says Bell. “I’ve always been an environmentalist and a vegan, but the main event that inspired this album was witnessing the destruction of 10,000 square feet of old-growth forest from my own backyard, cleared for ocean views for vacation homes that were never built, breaking government laws that were never enforced. As I saw, heard, and felt every 100-foot tree fall, it felt like a microcosm for almost everything wrong in the world, with the greediest taking way more than they need at the expense of the earth and everyone else, while governments do almost nothing to stop them.”

Produced by Richardson (Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers), Last Generation was recorded between 2024 and 2025 at The Farm Studios and Vancouver’s Hipposonic Studios, with support from the Canada Council for the Arts. The album marks the first release under The Living Orchestra moniker, building on the foundation of Vancouver symphonic rock group The Living with a larger ensemble featuring all six original members alongside eight additional instrumentalists and vocalists, including full string, brass, and choir sections.

“Producing The Living Orchestra’s record was an unforgettable experience,” says Richardson. “This band isn’t afraid to tackle the big issues – from government corruption to global warming – and they do it with power, purpose, and precision. We left no stone unturned in the studio, pushing every boundary to make sure the message hit as hard as the music.”

“Not Gonna Die Tonight” is available now on all digital streaming services worldwide. Last Generation will be available on Bandcamp, iTunes, and other digital music retailers on May 17. For more information, please visit thelivingorchestra.com.
