Morgan Doctor Releases Her 3rd Album 'Major Over Minor' on May 7th

For Immediate Release:
April 18, 2013

(Toronto, ON) - Toronto-based musician/drummer Morgan Doctor will release her third solo album, Major Over Minor, through Aporia Records/Outside Distribution on May 7th, 2013.

Her first fully instrumental album, Major Over Minor came together after three years of soul searching that started when Doctor left a band (The Cliks) and a relationship. The ambient electronic album is about that time, full of contemplation and hopefulness. It's about the ending of a great love and the beginning of new relationships, new friends, new loves, a new home and even a new dog! Ultimately, Major Over Minor is all about change, moving forward and the journeys we take in life.

"Any journey is not about the places we go," Doctor explains. "It's the paths we take, the feelings we have and the people we meet along the way. The places we visit everyday tend to blur and become part of the background: unnoticed and unappreciated."

Morgan Doctor created all of the melodies for Major Over Minor on a LED light sound pad with patterns of light being repeated and triggering tones. "Phosphorescent" came out of working with that device and "The Seafarer" was based on a dream Morgan had one night of a young girl traveling across the ocean. The track "West Coast" is a slice of life tune that carries a sense of longing and freedom - a time you know won't last forever but you wish it could. The release of Major Over Minor is also accompanied by a roll out of some juicy remixes - the first one came out back in March courtesy of Eccodek, now there's a brand new one courtesy of Paradise Animals and there will be another one from Graham Wright (Tokyo Police Club) very soon. Tour dates in support of Major Over Minor will be coming in the Summer and Fall.

Download "Phosphorescent (Paradise Animals Remix)" here!

Morgan Doctor moved from her native Los Angeles to Toronto in 1999 and has since been a highly sought after session player as well as private drum teacher, having played over a thousand dates all over the US, Canada and Europe. She has played with such artists as: Andy Kim (30 million records sold), The Cliks (Warner/Tommyboy), Ron Sexsmith, Lights, Alex Lifeson and The Tea Party. Some of the artists Morgan has been billed alongside—on tour throughout the U.S. and Canada—include Cyndi Lauper, B-52’s, Tegan and Sara, The Cult, The New York Dolls, Indigo Girls, the Gossip, Dresden Dolls, Debbie Harry, The Stars, Feist and many more! She recently performed alongside comedienne Sandra Berhard at Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto as part of the Canadian International Comedy Festival and with Dearly Beloved at CMW 2013. Major Over Minor is her third release for Aporia Records - Is This Home? was released in 2006 and Other Life was released in 2009.

Donovan Woods Don't Get Too Grand Album Release Party & Video Release

For Immediate Release:
April 9th, 2013

(Toronto, ON) - Toronto troubadour Donovan Woods released his third album Don't Get Too Grand on March 26th (on Aporia Records) and he's finally getting around to having the official album release party on Wednesday, April 24th at The Horseshoe Tavern. To mark the occasion, Donovan Woods is releasing the video for the Don't Get Too Grand track "The Coldest State". The video features Donovan Woods and a couple of friends and was choreographed by Patricia Allison and directed by Ryan Nolan.

WATCH THE VIDEO FOR 'THE COLDEST STATE'

"The Coldest State is my run at a joyous song about love rediscovered," Woods explains.  "I thought a joyous dance would help emphasize the song's purpose. Also, I've always wanted to be involved in a choreographed dance routine and this seemed like a good opportunity to do that and have someone else pay for it. My friends Matt Huether (on my right) and Matt Lancaster (on my left) volunteered their time. If you can even comprehend it, none of us have had formal dance training, but Matt (on my left) clearly missed his true calling. His movements are fluid, sexy and vital. I cannot take my eyes from him while I watch. I am under his spell."

Don't Get Too Grand has received much critical acclaim since it was released on March 26th. Publications such as NOW,  The Grid and the Toronto Star have given the album glowing reviews with notable music blogs such as HeroHill and Slowcoustic also heaping on the praise. To make the night extra special, Donovan Woods will be performing with a full band - a very rare occurrence - at the album release party on April 24th. Gavin Slate and Wunderstrands will be opening up the show. Doors open at The Horseshoe at 8:30 PM and tickets are $10 in advance at www.aporiadirect.com and $15 at the door.

"These are just smashing songs, period — “Put On, Cologne” and “Petrolia” are jaw-dropping in their plain-spoken beauty — and Woods inhabits the rootless, put-upon characters in his sad-sack vignettes with believable ache." - Toronto Star

"This is emotional music that doesn’t sound fragile or overwrought, a difficult balancing act that Woods pulls off effortlessly." - NOW Magazine

Single Release: One Of These Days
Single Release Date: April 8th, 2013
Label: Gold Lake Records

Marshall Dane in 2013 - The Year Of The Dane

(Toronto, ON) - Marshall Dane’s infectious blend of country and rock is set to blaze a trail in the summer of 2013. Country by definition, but fueled by rock and roll and infected with a watermelon-sized helping of hope, love and salvation, Marshall’s the kind of guy you want to have on your side when the going gets tough in this world and his new album “One Of These Days” is set to be your alibi.
Set for launch in May, in time for this year’s CMAO Awards - for which he has been nominated in several categories including Male Artist and Rising Star - and featuring the new single “One Of These Days”, Canadian Country Artist Marshall Dane’s latest album puts life back in to the swing of things, driven by a swirling blast of fabulous melodies that gives you a country rush right from the get-go.

“One Of These Days is about how I deal with the curves life throws,” says Marshall. “It’s not really about where I’ve been but more so about where I am now...where I wanna go...and how I'm gonna get there, wherever 'there' is. “

One of These Days has country in its veins topped up with doses of rock, pop and a side helping of soul.  This latest collection is never far away from a radio-friendly corner, whether it’s the thrill of “Living It Up” or the reflective energy of “How Do I Get There From Her.”

Recorded in London, Ontario across June of 2012, “One Of These Days” is the follow-up to Marshall’s successful Running Stop Signs, released in 2010.

Winning a songwriting contest and opening up for Emerson Drive in the summer of 2009, Marshall bagged a deal with The Agency Group, opening for Alan Jackson in 2010, a tour in early 2011 and then a nomination to represent the New Artist Showcase at the 2011 CCMA's.

“I’ve been playing the circuit for a few years, consistently making sure to deliver a first class performance til the last note, even if the club had only four people in it! I'd rock it as best I could, hoping that one day someone who could change things and bring me to the next level would walk right in.”

That’s just what happened in June 2011 when Don Burton (The Cranberries/Gold Lake (w/ Danny Goldberg) and "The Beav" caught his act. “I can even tell you the time,” he laughed, “it was 1:55am on June 21st! They heard one and half songs and the rest is history.”

Marshall Dane has been slowly bubbling up to this moment. With “One Of These Days” set for release, 2013 promises to be the Year Of The Dane.

Steve Brockley Band To Release Their 2nd Album "LeBoeuf" On April 16th

For Immediate Release:
March 14, 2013

Listen to the Steve Brockley Band track "Classic Car" from LeBoeuf

(Vancouver, BC) - BC-based folk-country trio the Steve Brockley Band are set to independently release their 2nd album LeBoeuf on April 16th and will kick-off an extensive tour across Canada with an album release show in Vancouver on April 12th at The China Cloud (524 Main St.).

The Steve Brockley Band released their self-titled debut album back in 2010 to much critical acclaim and after spending the last couple of years touring across Canada playing club dates, house shows and festivals, the boys are ready to jump into their tour vehicle of choice, a wood-paneled station wagon named John Candy, to promote LeBoeuf. The new album was produced by John Raham (Be Good Tanyas, Frazey Ford, Po' Girl) with songs written by Steve Brockley and includes all of the signature staples of the Steve Brockley Band - storytelling, clever metaphors and great musicianship - but this one is a much more personal album for the band.

“When we recorded the first album, we were brand new and we just got in the studio and recorded and mixed the whole thing in three days – quick and dirty," says Brockley.  "On this one, after spending the last couple years on the road together, we felt we owed the new material the best possible opportunity to come alive. We took the time we needed to capture the songs without chasing them away.”

Born in BC and formed in Montreal, the Steve Brockley Band can't easily be defined by one sound or musical genre. Though it is apparent that the band is part of the tradition of folk music, they’re able to take the style in new directions without making the audience feel uprooted. The band draws varied comparisons in their music ranging from: J.J. Cale, Townes Van Zandt, Hank Williams, John Prine, Bob Dylan and The Band.  Getting to the heart of a song is their main goal. Not just digging into the notes, but nailing those spaces in between the notes. When you’ve got a good song, you want to let it breathe. A percussive double bass swagger, drum grooves from the gut, and a rolling finger picked guitar bring their brand of folk music to life. There’s no rush to the end of a song – if it's right, it happens. The main thing is not to hurry, so nothing good gets away. And that's what the Steve Brockley Band does best.

Join the Steve Brockley Band in celebrating the release of their 2nd album, LeBoeuf, with shows across Canada starting on April 12th and look for the album in stores and online on April 16th. For a full listing of the Steve Brockley Band's upcoming performances visit their website: www.stevebrockley.com

The Steve Brockley Band is: Steve Brockley (guitar, vocals), Kevin Bertram (upright bass) and Leon Power (drums, mandolin).
