Dust Cwaine Shares Powerful New Single + Video TWIN LAKES

Title Track To Their Upcoming Album
Listen + Watch
Here

Vancouver drag performer and indie pop-rock musician Dust Cwaine unveils their deeply personal new single and video, "Twin Lakes," the second release from their forthcoming album of the same name, due later this year.

Written by Dust and produced by Josh Eastman (Kylie V, Turunesh), “Twin Lakes” pulses with lo-fi urgency and raw emotion. The song channels the isolation of Dust’s rural upbringing in the Kootenays – a place known locally as Twin Lakes – and the complicated grief following the sudden passing of their father in 2020.

“I wrote this song about growing up in an isolated community, and the pain of being further isolated from the people within it,” said Dust. “I realized that in death, my father had bypassed any chance to be held accountable for the things he put me through. This song imagines what it might have been like to finally say what needed to be said.”

The result is a cathartic and hauntingly honest anthem, rooted in trauma but lit with the defiant spark of healing. "'I don’t want to go back' was the core feeling,” Dust explains. "Josh built a beat that echoed through the chest – like you're sitting alone by the lakes, reckoning with everything that made you."

The striking video, directed by Luke Beach Brown, was filmed at the Britannia Mine Museum, pairing the song’s emotional depth with a moody, industrial backdrop that underscores the weight of the story.

Following the June release of their electric first single "Little Plans" – a joyful T4T synth-pop love song – "Twin Lakes" shows the other side of Dust’s forthcoming record: intimate, complex, and fearless in its vulnerability. The track marks the beginning of an album-long journey back to the place that shaped them – one that’s as much about self-love as it is survival.

With nearly a decade of experience, Dust Cwaine has become a fixture in Vancouver’s drag and music scenes, blending moody pop-rock textures with raw, confessional songwriting they call "nostalgia pop-rock navel gaze." Their work has earned praise from Exclaim!, The Jann Arden Podcast, and The Georgia Straight, which named them a Vancouver Local Hero in 2024. They’ve shared stages with Hotel Mira and Young Friend, and have sold out headline shows across Canada.

"Twin Lakes" is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more info, please visit dustcwaine.ca.

PRAISE FOR "LITTLE PLANS":

"Their newest single, 'Little Plans', has a synthesized bop perking up the chorus, pairing with the squealing electric guitar and Cwaine’s enthusiastic vocals to tell a story about the giddy euphoria of love. It’s catchy and cute—the perfect song to hum while picking daisies or painting a Pride placard." - The Georgia Straight

"'Little Plans' captures how new love transforms daily life, emphasizing the ritual in intimacy and validating identities through a T4T lens, supported by vibrant production and emotional depth." - B-Side Guys

"With 'Little Plans', Dust Cwaine gives us more than a song, they give us permission to feel ecstatic about the small things. And that’s a beautiful gift.” - Hella Fuzz

"It’s the kind of song that can make someone feel seen, not just heard.” - PopFad

Yellowknife Indie Folk Project HUGHES Release Self-Titled Debut Album

Watch/Share "The Cabin"
Lyric Video
Here

Yellowknife musician Benji Straker has released the debut self-titled album from his indie folk project Hughes, now available on all streaming platforms. Alongside the album, Hughes shares a new single, “The Cabin”, a moving collaboration with fellow Yellowknife artist Shea Alain (Rueben and the Dark, Sub Islands, Maazes).

Tracked entirely at Straker’s home studio in Yellowknife – affectionately named The Penalty Box – Hughes is a heartfelt collection of songs that spans more than a decade of songwriting. Originally a solo project, Hughes evolved into a full band in late 2024, bringing new life to Straker’s compositions with rich textures of pedal steel, keys, percussion, and synth. Two reimagined singles, “Despite the Distance” and “Idaho,” also appear on the album in newly recorded versions.

“Hughes is a collection of songs that span over a decade – some written in the last couple of years, others reaching back more than ten. Each track is rooted in personal experiences – love, nostalgia, loss, and the deep connections we form with people and the land,” says Straker. “Over the past year, Hughes has grown from a solo singer-songwriter project into a full band, and that evolution shaped the sound of this album. At its core, this album is about family, friendship, and the places that shape us – I think there's something in it that any listener can connect with.”

The new single “The Cabin” captures the emotional centerpiece of the album. Inspired by a remote family cabin built by Straker’s father – accessible only by boat or snowmobile – it’s a song steeped in memory, reverence, and connection to land.

"This song is about a place that holds my deepest memories – it’s more than just a structure; it’s a place of reflection, connection, and the lessons passed down through generations,” says Straker. “While the song is personal, I think anyone with a special place in nature – a retreat that feels like home – can relate. My good friend and incredible musician Shea Alain added ambient guitar work and harmonized vocals, bringing the perfect atmosphere to the track.”

With themes of place, lineage, and belonging running throughout the record, Hughes offers listeners a glimpse into the northern landscapes and emotional terrain that have shaped Straker’s life and music.

Hughes - S/T is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit linktr.ee/hughesmusic.

BC Folk-Roots Duo The Eisenhauers Announce New Album

FIRST SINGLE "GAMBLER" OUT NOW
STREAM/SHARE HERE

Acclaimed BC folk-roots duo The Eisenhauers are proud to announce their long-awaited new album, Back Burner, set for release on September 12th, 2025. Today, they offer a first glimpse of what’s to come with the release of the evocative lead single, “Gambler,” available now on all major streaming platforms via Black Hen Music.

Produced by Steve Dawson (Matt Anderson, Birds of Chicago), “Gambler” was written by Sheree Eisenhauer during a tough season in her marriage with bandmate/husband Jeremy – about risking everything for love. Recorded live at Vancouver’s Warehouse Studio with a full band who hadn’t heard the songs before, it captures raw, one-take energy and features backing vocals by Vancouver singer-songwriter Jill Barber.

“Writing 'Gambler' was like holding up a mirror to everything I was afraid to admit,” says Sheree. “It came from a place of real vulnerability – the kind you don’t always want to share, even with yourself. Recording it live, with musicians who were hearing it for the first time, gave it this unfiltered urgency that matched exactly how it felt to write it. It was terrifying and cathartic all at once.”

Based in Kimberley, BC, The Eisenhauers are an award-winning folk-roots duo known for their introspective lyrics, close-knit harmonies, and intimate performances. Their past releases have received national airplay, critical acclaim, and resonated deeply with audiences seeking authenticity in music.

Back Burner marks a powerful return for Jeremy and Sheree Eisenhauer and is their first release since their 2017 debut album The Road We Once Knew. Rooted in the personal and reflective storytelling the duo is known for, the new album dives deep into themes of resilience, reinvention, and the quiet strength found in letting go. Perhaps no song summarizes the tone and message of the record as much as the first single, "Gambler." The lyrics lay out simple truths, like the inevitable dark days of any relationship and that love is inherently a gamble, free from guarantees, regardless of marriage covenants or a house full of children. Yet, despite this uncertainty, the message is clear: The Eisenhauers have made the decision to go all in on love and music one more time.

"Gambler" is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. The Eisenhauers will support the album release with tour dates this fall, to be announced soon. For more information, please visit theeisenhauers.com.

Ottawa Pop-Punk Band MAJORS Share Video For New Single ETIQUETTE

WATCH/SHARE VIDEO HERE

Ottawa-based pop-punk band MAJORS are teeing up something unforgettable with the release of their first-ever music video for their latest single 'Etiquette' streaming now on YouTube. The video showcases a dynamic collaboration with Juno Award-winning cinematographer Peter Schnobb (Bahamas, Sarah Harmer), who brought the high-energy visual to life as director and producer.

Released in May and mixed and mastered by Dean Hadjichristou (Parkway Drive, Four Year Strong), 'Etiquette' is MAJORS’ first release since their fan-favourite 2024 EP Songs in the Key of Golf and continues the band’s signature blend of driving punk energy and unexpected thematic twists. This time, MAJORS takes aim at a most unforgivable villain: the disrespectful golf partner.

"'Etiquette' is about getting matched up on the golf course with a terrible person," says vocalist Justin Camarena. "Anyone who’s played regularly knows there are some people with no respect for the game or for others, and the idea for the song came from one of those instances. In golf, you have a lot of time to think, and your mind can wander to happy or dark places. This song goes to a dark place. When I’m writing I like taking a small thought and exaggerating it to squeeze out all the feelings I had when I was in that moment. I’ve golfed with a lot of people who have annoyed me, but this song magnifies that tenfold, and the video has us murdering a guy.”

Filmed over two days at the Irish Hills Golf and Country Club in Ottawa, the video follows a boorish character who defies every rule of golf decorum – arriving late, acting out on the course, and shamelessly ignoring the game’s dignity. As the song builds in urgency, so does the narrative, culminating in a satisfyingly rebellious climax that only MAJORS could deliver.

Shot with precision and punch by Schnobb, and supported by No Hands Films, the video marries raw performance footage with a tongue-in-cheek storyline that pays homage to both punk rock angst and golf traditionalism. It’s a pairing no one expected – but one that works with surprising harmony.

MAJORS’ music is a high-energy blend of modern rock rooted in classic 2000s punk with lyrics featuring wide-ranging golf themed storytelling. Formed in 2023 by former members of The Fully Down – Justin Camarena (vocals) and Rich Latour (drums) – the band quickly expanded to include guitarist Jason Mooney (We Were Sharks), Nathan Pearce (guitar), and Jeff Britten (bass), all seasoned musicians with touring pedigrees.

Their 2024 debut EP established their distinct identity, and their latest single 'Etiquette' builds on that momentum with hard-hitting riffs and a sharply humorous narrative. With more singles ready to roll and a full-length album on the way in 2026, MAJORS continues to prove that punk rock has room for fairways and fury alike.

'Etiquette' is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more info, please visit majorsband.com.

Yellowknife Indie Folk Project HUGHES Share New Single PASSERBY

2nd SINGLE FROM NEW ALBUM
OUT ON JULY 11th

STREAM/SHARE LYRIC VIDEO
HERE

Yellowknife musician Benji Straker’s indie folk project Hughes share their raw and introspective new single ‘Passerby’ out now on all digital streaming platforms. Listen here.

Produced by Dan Ponich (Bad Hoss, Twin Willow) and featuring the vocals of Yellowknife musician Ben Cornel (MOOCH), ‘Passerby’ is the second single from Hughes' self-titled debut full-length set for release on July 11th. Reflective and richly textured, the new single feels both intimate and expansive, capturing the fleeting nature of time and the quiet significance of human connection.

"'Passerby’ was an interesting song to write because, at first, I wasn’t even sure what I was trying to say – it just started coming together as I put the words down,” says Benji Straker. “It’s about reflection, about how the past, present, and future are just fleeting moments in the grand scope of life. We’re all just passing through, so there’s no point in clinging to things that don’t really matter. What does matter is making the most of the time we have with the people we love. My good friend and incredible musician, Ben Cornel, really connected with this track, so we teamed up for the recording – blending harmonized vocals and his additional guitar work to bring it to life.”

Through Hughes, Benji Straker blends introspective lyrics, ambient textures, and country-surf guitar into a sound that feels both ethereal and grounded. Rooted in the wild beauty of the North, the project channels the stillness of lakes and the glow of the aurora to explore themes of love, loss, and self-discovery. Hughes was a solo project until last year, when Benji invited some other musicians to jam. The band quickly came together and shaped many of the compositions that made it onto the forthcoming album. What began as a solo endeavor has since evolved into a full-band experience, combining folk storytelling with blues-rock grit and richly layered instrumentation.

'Passerby’ (feat. Ben Cornel) is available now on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services worldwide. For more information, please visit linktr.ee/hughesmusic.
